Looking for the best DJI Pocket 2 and DJI Osmo Pocket accessories to boost these little cameras’ capabilities? This guide is here to help.

Originally launched in December 2018 and relaunched in October 2020, the Osmo Pocket and Pocket 2 are regarded as some of the best action cameras out there – thanks to having built-in gimbal stabilizers for super-smooth handheld video footage.

While the new Pocket 2 has a larger sensor, a larger aperture and a wider field of view, both of these little handheld cameras in miniature motorized three-axis gimbals create ultra-smooth video out of the box – and yet there are stacks of accessories for both.

Pocketable they might be, but every owner needs a few accessories in their camera bag. Some of them are obvious, like high-capacity microSD cards to store theirs 4K video goodness, spare batteries to lengthen your shooting time, and a protective case.

However, had you thought about mounting the Osmo Pocket or Pocket 2 to help it perform its innovative motion time-lapses or night shots, creating better audio, or finding a waterproof case so you can take it scuba diving?

What’s more, the new Pocket 2 – with a larger sensor and a wider lens – comes with a new range of accessories, only some of which are backwards-compatible with the Osmo Pocket. In fact, Pocket 2 can be purchased as the Pocket 2 Creator Combo that includes the Mini Control Stick, Tripod Mount, Wide-Angle Lens, Wireless Microphone, Do-It-All Handle and Micro Tripod. However, most of those are also available separately.

From DJI’s own fleet of accessories to third-party manufacturers and more general off-the-shelf gadgets, we present the ultimate guide to Pocket 2 and Osmo Pocket accessories you should consider for your kit bag.

Fiddly to  set-up

Included in the DJI Pocket 2 Creator Combo package, but also available separately, the Do-It-All Handle is a handle extension that’s all about making the Pocket 2 easier to use. Inside it is a wireless module for WiFI and Bluetooth connectivity as well as a wireless mic receiver, but there’s also some physical features for added flexibility including a 3.5mm audio jack, a 1/4-inch thread for attaching the Pocket 2 to a tripod or a selfie stick, and an external speaker. It replaces, and extends, the existing base of the Pocket 2. Its wireless module inserts into the Pocket 2’s universal adaptor, replacing the smartphone adaptor. That’s a bit of a faff.

Reasons to avoid

Requires Pocket 2 Do-It-All Handle

Part of the Pocket 2 Creator Combo, but also available as a separate accessory, the Wireless Microphone Transmitter is perhaps one of the most impressive Pocket 2 add-ons you can invest in. Its killer feature, of course, is that it connects to an external microphone to send audio wirelessly to a Pocket 2. However, if used with the Pocket 2 Do-It-All Handle its wireless link button can also be used as a remote shutter button for the Pocket 2. Genius! Weighing 22g, the DJI Wireless Microphone Transmitter comes with a windscreen cover to reduce wind noise, and its 320mAh battery lasts for around six hours.

However, it’s designed to stand stably only on flat surfaces, and requires the purchase of DJI’s Tripod Mount Adapter Stand. This can only be considered a travel-friendly tripod for emergencies.

Default 93º will be fine for most users
-
Small and easy to lose

As well as a larger sensor and aperture, the Pocket 2 features a wider field of view than the original Osmo Pocket. So what if you want to go even wider? A rare accessory that upgrades both DJI cameras – and included in the DJI Pocket 2 Creator Combo – the DJI Pocket 2 Wide Angle Lens increases the equivalent focal length to 15mm, upping the field of view for the Pocket 2 to 110° and for the Osmo Pocket to 90°. Measuring 18x15x7mm and weighing just 3.3g, it attaches magnetically and can be snugly stored in the Pocket 2 Cover.

06. DJI Pocket 2 Waterproof Case

The only way to take your camera under the waves

Specifications

Compatible with: Pocket 2, Osmo Pocket
Maximum depth: 60m
Dimensions: 77x82x170mm
Weight: 112.6g

Reasons to buy

+
Waterproof housing for scuba and snorkelling
+
Distortion-free underwater images
+
Impressive 60m depth rating

Reasons to avoid

-
Camera can’t be adjusted once inside

If you plan to travel a lot with the Pocket 2 or Osmo Pocket there’s going to come a time when you want to take your new camera under the waves. Whether you’re planning to go snorkelling or scuba diving, you’re going to need the DJI Pocket 2 Waterproof Case. Compatible with both the Pocket 2 and the Osmo Pocket, it’s waterproof down to 60m and promises glare and distortion-free while underwater. However, it does bring limitations; a clamp inside the case keeps the gimbal locked and the camera can’t be adjusted when it’s inside the case. The exterior boasts a record button and two mounting brackets.

07. DJI Pocket 2 Charging Case

Capacity: 1500mAh
Dimensions: 48x48x152mm
Weight: 164g

Reasons to buy

+
Around four hours extra battery life
+
Stores cards, adapters and filters

Reasons to avoid

-
Expensive
-
Overkill for most users

Need more power for your Pocket 2? You could argue that its 875mAh battery and maximum 140 minutes battery life could just have been upgraded by DJI, but instead we’ve got an add-on accessory to increase longevity. Loaded with 1,500mAh of power (so about four hours of extra battery life), the Pocket 2 Charging Case measures is pocket-sized for easy travel. However, while we like its extension of the Pocket 2’s shooting time and its spin-to-open design, the real advantage is that it can also play host to a couple of microSD cards, four ND filters and two smartphone adapters. There’s also a hole for using the case with a lanyard hole so you can hang it around your neck.

08. DJI Pocket 2 Phone Clip

A must-have if you want a vlogging rig

Compatible with: Pocket 2

Weight: 92g

Reasons to buy

+
Holds any phone
+
1/4-inch tripod thread
+

Reasons to avoid

-
For vloggers only

If there’s one thing both the Osmo Pocket and the Pocket 2 lack it’s a screen. Unable to see what you’re shooting in real-time can get annoying especially if you’re vlogging and want to frame a piece to camera. Cue the DJI Pocket 2 Phone Clip, a simple and reasonably good b]value accessory that lets you create a simple filming rig that will put either a Pocket 2 or Osmo Pocket alongside any smartphone. As well as a universal phone holder it offers a cold shoe for attached LED lighting and a 1/4-inch thread for putting the whole thing on either a tripod or a selfie stick. It weighs 92g.

09. Osmo Pocket Charging Case

Essential gear for vloggers

Specifications

Compatible with: Osmo Pocket
Capacity: 1,500mAh
Dimensions: 47.9 x 147mm
Weight: 169g

Reasons to buy

+
More than doubles battery life
+
Stores microSD cards and more

Reasons to avoid

-
Relatively puny power
-
Not compatible with Pocket 2

If there’s one thing we don’t like about the Osmo Pocket (and, to be fair, all small cameras) it’s its battery life... or lack of. With a built-in battery rated at just 875mAh battery, the Osmo Pocket can only be used for around one hour before it runs out of juice. That’s for 4K video – though for full HD it only lasts two hours.

Cue this charging case, which packs a sizeable 1,500mAh punch that’s good for a full recharge with some left over. You can keep filming while it recharges, and as a bonus its insides can store two microSD cards, four ND filters and a couple of smartphone adapters.

10. Osmo Pocket Accessory Mount

The only way to shoot hands-free and time-lapse video

Specifications

Compatible with: Osmo Pocket, Pocket 2
Dimensions: 49.6 x 38.2 x 42mm
Weight: 22.3g

Reasons to buy

+
Adds versatility
+
1/4-inch tripod thread

Reasons to avoid

-
Should have already been built-in!

How do you shoot hands-free with the Osmo Pocket or Pocket 2? Or make use of its intriguing built-in ‘motion time-lapse’ feature? You invest in an official Accessory Mount, that’s how. For any kind of camera not to have a built-in 1/4-inch tripod thread is disappointing, but that’s the case here. This official accessory mount fixes to the Osmo Pocket and allows it to attach to tripods, helmets, bike handlebars and, yes, selfie sticks.

If you’re serious about videography, it’s surely an essential add-on, though it’s the kind of basic functionality that should have been baked into the Osmo Pocket. It’s one of four products in the official DJI Osmo Pocket Expansion Kit.

11. SanDisk Extreme 64GB microSDXC Memory Card

A microSD card made for the outdoors

Specifications

Compatible with: Osmo Pocket, Pocket 2
Card type: microSD (with SD adapter)
Capacity: 64GB
Read speed: Up to 160MB/s
Write speed: Up to 60MB/s

Reasons to buy

+
Waterproof and shock-proof
+
Can record an hour of 4K video

Reasons to avoid

-
More expensive than some

It’s always the thing you think about last when buying a camera, but decent memory cards are an essential purchase. Given that the Osmo Pocket is going to be used outdoors, the temperature-proof, shock-proof, waterproof and X-ray proof SanDisk Extreme is a candidate. This microSD card not only stores 64GB, but is also 4K-ready, with UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) and Video Speed Class 30 (V30) ratings. Since the Osmo Pocket shoots 4K/60fps video at 100 Mbps or 12.5MB/s, as well as slow motion video at 1080p/120fps, it’s worth getting a microSD card that can cope.

Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod

12. Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod

Lightweight, portable and super-steady

Specifications

Top attachment: 1/4-inch thread
Ball locking: Yes
Closed length: 185mm
Max height: 135mm
Weight: 190g

Reasons to buy

+
Excellent build quality
+
Anti-slip feet

Reasons to avoid

-
Ball head flexibility is limited

The killer app on the Osmo Pocket may well be its 3-axis mechanical handheld gimbal that soothes-out handheld video, but sometimes only a tripod will do. Ideal for creating a time-lapse or a motion time-lapse using the Osmo Pocket, the PIXI Mini is a great little tripod from Manfrotto that’s both tough and compact. Weighing a mere 190g, the PIXI has a basic but well-made ball head that can be locked in place using a simple push-button locking mechanism. Its soft outer also acts as a comfy handgrip for handheld videos.

Osmo Pocket Controller Wheel

13. Osmo Pocket Controller Wheel

Add filmmaking flexibility with precise control of the gimbal

Specifications

Dimensions: 45 x 31 x 23mm
Weight: 9.7g

Reasons to buy

+
Pan and tilt control
+
Sensitive and responsive

Reasons to avoid

-
An annoyingly basic upgrade

Why didn’t DJI put fine control of the gimbal in the original design for the Osmo Pocket? So it could sell more accessories? Possibly, but the Controller Wheel is nevertheless worth considering. Attaching to the Osmo Pocket via the accessory mount/smartphone connector (largely because it replaces the need to use a phone), the Controller Wheel allows the user to control the Osmo Pocket’s panning and tilting. It’s all about the jog wheel, which is pretty sensitive, and generally easy to use – although the toggle button, which scrolls you through the Osmo Pocket’s ‘follow’, ‘tilt-lock’ and ‘first-person view’ modes, does take a little getting to know. The Controller Wheel is also in the official DJI Osmo Pocket Expansion Kit.

PolarPro Minimalist Case

14. PolarPro Minimalist Case

A compact, secure case that expands

Specifications

Compatible with: Osmo Pocket
Capacity: Osmo Pocket, Smartphone Connector, Wi-Fi Module & Controller
Dimensions: 155 x 127 x 58mm
Weight: 99.8g

Reasons to buy

+
Snug fit
+
Carabiner to attach to belt/backpack

Reasons to avoid

-
Restricted to specific accessories

By now it’s pretty obvious that the Osmo Pocket, while impressive, is a mere starting point. You’re likely going to be buying a few accessories to get the best from it. The PolarPro Minimalist Case is compact and toughly made, with has protective cutout foam inserts to protect an Osmo Pocket, but also a few core DJI-made accessories: the Wi-Fi Module and the Controller Wheel. Given that installing the latter means removing the Osmo Pocket's tiny (and very easy to lose) Smartphone Connector, it’s good to see the PolarPro Minimalist Case also has a cutout for that. Equipped with a carabiner and a mesh pocket on the side, this case also has an expansion pouch that takes a PolarPro Filter Case.

DJI Osmo Pocket Wireless Module

15. DJI Osmo Pocket Wireless Module

How to wirelessly control the Osmo Pocket

Specifications

Compatible with: Osmon Pocket, Pocket 2
Dimensions: 40 x 23mm
Weight: 12.5g

Reasons to buy

+
Easy files transfer
+
Acts like a tripod

Reasons to avoid

-
An annoyingly basic upgrade

Sigh. Here’s another product that you probably do need to consider despite its core features being the kind that really ought to be on the Osmo Pocket when you buy it. The Osmo Pocket doesn’t have Bluetooth or Wi-Fi? No, it doesn’t, and nor is this DJI-made Wireless Module particularly cheap. However, if you want to wirelessly transfer videos and photos to your phone, or remotely control the Osmo Pocket from your phone, it’s a must-have – you just pair it with the DJI Mimo app on your smartphone. As a bonus, it acts as a dock, not only keeping the Osmo Pocket steady but also presenting a USB-C slot to recharge it.

Anker PowerCore+ 26800

16. Anker PowerCore+ 26800 portable battery

This is how you never run out of power

Specifications

Compatible with: Osmo Pocket, Pocket 2
Capacity: 26,800mAh
Dimensions: 180 x 80 x 24mm
Weight: 440g

Reasons to buy

+
Massive capacity
+
Quick charge output

Reasons to avoid

-
Heavy

Since the Osmo Pocket only has an 875mAh battery and the official charging case is merely 1,500mAh, there’s only one way to ensure you never run out of battery, and that’s to invest in a third-party whopper of a portable battery. However, as well as storing 26,800 mAh of battery (over 25 recharges of an Osmo Pocket) the PowerCore+ 26800 power bank can deliver 5V/3.0A power via USB to drastically reduce charging time. Cabling up isn’t particularly convenient, but you can use the DJI Osmo Pocket while recharging it via its USB-C slot.
