Nikon announcements tomorrow? Here's what NOT to expect

Nikon

Nikon is reportedly making a number of announcements in Asia this week, with as many as four new products – but none of them will be the highly anticipated Nikon Z9 or Nikon Z30.

Rumors began circulating in May that Nikon Asia would be holding a launch event on 02 June, where it would unveil a slew of new products – with many photographers crossing their fingers for a full, formal announcement of the Nikon Z9 along with news on the much-rumored Nikon Z30 (which could also be the newly rumored retro Nikon camera).

However, a report on Nikon Rumors claims that the manufacturer may not announce any new cameras at all; rather, the event will strictly be to reveal two new lenses, and the development of two more, along with the publication of a new Nikon Z lens roadmap

"The latest/updated list of products that will be announced on Jun 2nd could actually be worse than previously predicted/reported," wrote the site, listing the following products that are apparently set to be revealed:

"Nikkor Z 105mm f/2.8 S Micro
Nikkor Z 50mm f/2.8 Micro
Developing announcement for Nikkon Z 28mm f/2.8 and 40mm f/2 lenses
New Z lens roadmap
No new cameras

"I am still confused about the lack of a new APS-C camera and the 100-400mm lens," continued the report, though it also added that "there is still a chance for another development announcement."

The manufacturer recently debunked reports that products like the Nikkor Z 100-400mm S and other Z-mount lenses have been delayed by Nikon. However, it would be surprising if such an event took place and we didn't get more information on at least the Z9 – and if the new APS-C retro camera is indeed in the pipeline, we'd expect some more APS-C lenses to go with it.

Still, we won't have to wait long to find out just how much of this speculation actually comes to pass…
