Sony’s compact full-frame mirrorless is still dominating Japan’s best-selling cameras three years later – and the price just dropped to the lowest price all year
The Sony A7C II has remained a popular camera even after three years, and the price is the lowest it's been all year
Japan’s best-selling camera rankings often offer a deeper hint at what’s trending in the camera industry. But there’s one Sony camera that keeps popping up on best-seller lists, despite now being three years old: The Sony A7C II.
The Sony A7C II takes Sony’s 33MP full-frame sensor and crams it into a much smaller body than cameras from the A7 series. Part of that small design is placing the viewfinder in one corner, more like a rangefinder than an SLR. That, mixed with the fact that it’s also available in silver, makes the A7C II not just Sony’s most compact full-frame mirrorless, but arguably the most retro.
The Sony A7C II is a regular attender for best-seller lists, even as the camera ages. But the camera’s popularity means deals are often small discounts. The A7C II body-only has just dropped back down to the lowest price that the camera has seen in 2026 during the Prime Day deals.
The camera currently has a $400 discount on the body in the US. That’s the lowest that the camera has been since tariff price adjustments last year – though it’s not the only time the camera has sat at $2,098 this year.
The A7C II’s mix of an oversized sensor in an undersized design earns the camera a spot on Digital Camera World’s best Sony camera list. In the review, DCW’s Gareth Bevan said the A7C II is “still one of the best options for content creators looking for the smallest and most compact camera, while still getting pro-level features.”
The A7C II shares the same resolution as another Sony camera that continues to dominate charts: The Sony A7 V. Where the A7C II is built for portability, the newer A7 V is built to blend that full-frame sensor with speed, delivering a 30 fps burst speed as well as 4K60 video oversampled from 7K.
