With the best GoPro accessories, you can radically transform your GoPro camera's capabilities. Whether you want to get unique angles, strap the camera to yourself for total POV, or change up the possibilities of its lenses (assuming you've got a newer one), these accessories will allow you to do it – and many of them are refreshingly inexpensive.

I've included the entire gamut in this quick guide, with suggestions for mounts, handles, lenses, cases and more. Different accessories are compatible with different GoPro cameras, so do check which model you have before you buy anything. Naturally, the most recent GoPro Hero13 Black will have the broadest compatibility, but there are also accessories designed for specific individual models, like the 360-degree GoPro Max.

Customisation is a watchword with recent GoPro cameras, and if you've got a Hero 12 model or later, you'll be able to take advantage of my favorite accessories – the Lens Mods, which radically transform the camera's perspective. But even if not, there's a lot to recommend – so let's get to the accessories!

How to choose the best GoPro accessories

What GoPro accessories are essential?

First and foremost you'll need a storage card – generally the bigger the better. Next on the list for most people should be spare batteries, because the GoPro's size means that batteries have a limited life. After that your choice of accessory will be dictated by what you're doing – a travel grip like the GoPro Shorty for vlogging, for example, is a popular choice.

What is the main drawback of a GoPro?

Because a GoPro has to be small, and do a lot of computing work to process stable video, it does use battery faster than a big camera. That's why it's important to keep more than one if you're looking to capture a day (or more).

Why are there so many GoPro accessories?

There are a lot of accessories for a few reasons. Mainly you can do a LOT with the GoPro; it's compact, waterproof (since the HERO5), and has a very widely used (and strong) mounting system. If you can think of a sport, game, or traditionally difficult filming scenario, you can bet someone has made a GoPro adaptor for it. Probably several. We're just picking the best!

The number is also pushed up by the fact that not every GoPro is exactly the same; the shape (and battery shape) changes over time, so essentials change too.

What we look for in GoPro accessories

GoPro accessories come in all shapes, and sizes and all have a unique way in which they can help us improve our filmmaking. These might gain you extra height while on location or keep your GoPro from sinking after that radical wave, thanks to flotation handles or surrounds.

All the accessories within this guide are either produced by GoPro themselves or by third parties that we know offer great solutions at a good price point to help boost your filmmaking. From chest mounts, and spare batteries, to lens mods - there is something for everyone on any budget.
