Akaso, one of the most popular alternatives to GoPro in the action cam field, has just launched the dual-screen Akaso Brave 7 LE – and it looks set to shake up two specialist sectors of the camera market.

In addition to its front selfie screen, the Akaso Brave 7 LE's other headline features are 4K video at 30 frames per second and 6-axis Enhanced Image Stabilization. That's a killer trifecta that potentially make this the best action camera AND the best vlogging camera

Obviously action cameras with dual screens are in short supply, with the DJI Osmo Action being the best option currently out there. While it offers 4K at up to 60fps, it doesn't offer stabilization in 4K; the Brave 7 LE promises "gimbal-like" 6-axis stabilization across the board, and can shoot 60fps for 1080p / FullHD video.

The new Akaso camera also bests both the Osmo Action and the GoPro Hero8 Black (which only has a single, rear screen) in terms of stills, offering 20MP photographs compared to the 12MP images taken by its rivals.

The IPX7-rated camera is waterproof to 3 feet / 1 meter as standard, and also comes with an underwater housing that enables you to use the camera all the way down to 131 feet / 30 meters. So whether you want to record fully submerged videos beneath the sea, or you simply want to record videos in vlogs in the rain, sleet and snow, the Brave 7 LE is up to the task.

In addition to the housing, the camera also comes with spare two 1350mAh batteries – which will come in very handy, since churning out 4K video with two screens will no doubt guzzle the power.

It can also connect to your Apple or Android device via built-in WiFi, to transfer files via the new Akaso Go app, as well as a wristwatch-style remote control so that you can snap full-body selfies. The integrated HDMI connection also enables you to share your images directly to a TV screen or monitor.

The Akaso Brave 7 LE is priced at $139.99 / £139.99, which Akaso helpfully points out is around one-third the price of the $399 GoPro Hero8 Black.
