Ricoh Imaging has announced the HD PENTAX-D FA* 50mm F1.4 SDM AW lens.
The first of a new generation of Star-series optics, the new prime lens will go on sale from July, with an RRP of £1,199.99 in the UK and $1,199.95 in the US.
Designed for use with the full-frame K-1 and K-1 Mark II DSLRs, the lens is said to deliver greatly improved resolving power, and "looks ahead to its use with more advanced, next-generation camera bodies," according to the press announcement, and adds to the list of full frame Pentax lenses.
The lens has an Aero Bright Coating II, a lens-coating nanotechnology employing a super-low refractive film fabrication process. By coupling this advanced lens coating with the high-grade, multi-layer HD Coating, the company claims reduction in average reflection in the visible ray spectrum to less than 50% of conventional multi-layer coatings.
The lens also incorporates three super-low dispersion glass elements and one aspherical element.
With a minimum focusing distance of 0.4m, the new lens has a dust-proof, weather-resistant construction. It features a newly developed ring-type SDM (Supersonic Direct-drive Motor), which Ricoh Imaging claims generates as much as 7.5 times the torque of the conventional SDM installed in existing lenses.
It also features a nine-blade, rounded diaphragm which promises natural, beautiful bokeh. The lens weighs 910g without its lens hood and measures 80x106mm.
