Fujifilm confirms XF200mmF2 R LM OIS WR and XF8-16mmF2.8 R LM WR lenses

Fujifilm XF200mmF2 R LM OIS WR

Just a day after announcing its XF10 compact camera, Fujifilm has confirmed two new lenses and a teleconverter.

The FUJINON XF200mmF2 R LM OIS WR and FUJINON XF8-16mmF2.8 R LM WR are both designed for the company’s X-series mirrorless cameras, such as the most recent X-T100 and X-A5 models.

The XF200mmF2 R LM OIS WR, which comes with a new XF1.4X TC F2 WR Teleconverter as standard, has been designed with 19 elements in 14 groups, with 2 ED elements and 1 super ED element among these.

It offers a focal length equivalent to 300mm when used on an X-series body, but when using the teleconverter, its focal length is boosted by 1.4 times to the equivalent of 427mm (at f/2.8).

The new optic makes use of magnesium alloy in its build and has been sealed at 17 separate points for moisture and dust resistance. Its front element has been treated with a fluorine coating for improved durability and, much like Canon’s putty-white L lenses, the matte silver finish is said to help reduce the risk of overheating.

Optical image stabilisation that promises five stops of compensation is on hand, while linear motors are said to deliver quite and ultra-fast AF. A Focus Preset Function, meanwhile, also allows the user to instantly change focus to a pre-determined position.

The other lens, the XF8-16mmF2.8 R LM WR, joins the XF16-55mmF2.8 R LM WR and XF50-140mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR in the company's f/2.8 zoom lens collection. Its focal length provides an effective focal length of 12-24mm in 35mm terms, which means that the three end up covering a focal range equivalent from 12mm through to 213mm in 35mm terms, all at a constant f/2.8 aperture.

The company has also announced three new forthcoming lenses, the most interesting being an XF 33mm F1.0 R WR. According to Fujifilm, the lens is set to be the world’s first camera lens designed for mirrorless cameras with a maximum aperture of f/1.0 and autofocus, although the updated lens roadmap shows this to have an expected arrival date of 2020.

The other two lenses that are currently under development are the XF16mmF2.8 R WR and XF16-80mmF4 R OIS WR, both of which are also shown in the roadmap below.
