So what is Cyber Monday?
Cyber Monday is an annual event that, along with Black Friday, has become one the biggest shopping day of the year. It’s the first Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday in the US, and this year it falls on 2 December, though big retailers will start their build-up long before then – and you can expect to see Black Friday deals starting to appear from the beginning of November, and possibly even in late October.
Black Friday, which comes the Friday before Cyber Monday, traditionally marks the start of the annual holiday season shopping spree. It still happens on the high street, but increasingly the best deals – and the most shoppers – are online. That’s why Digital Camera World is running its own Black Friday and Cyber Monday guides, keeping you up to date on all the latest photography deals and bargains, as they arrive.

It’s the week that includes Black Friday. Retailers are increasingly offering deals before and after Black Friday itself so they stand out from the crowd.
Are Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals real?
Yes. Although these days the retailers plan most of their bargains well in advance, there will some surprises. As with any sales you can expect a mix of genuine bargains, discounted end-of-line camera gear and mysterious items found in the back of a warehouse somewhere.
Where can I find the best Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals for photographers?
You’re in the right place already! We scour all the top retailers’ Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, and we also tell you what we think of them. Whether you’re looking for a cheap camera or a premium prime lens, you’ll find all the best deals here. If you haven’t signed up for our newsletter yet, now’s the time to do it – just scroll back up this page and fill in your details, in the box in the right had column.
How do I get the best Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals?
Our best advice? Know what you want, know what you can afford to spend and know the market. Beware of dealers selling at higher prices in October so that they can offer an amazing discount on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. And don’t pay any attention to the list prices or ‘recommended retail prices’ quoted by manufacturers and dealers – the real guide to a bargain is the price everybody else is charging, not what the maker says! But be flexible too. Your first choice of camera may not be on sale at a price you like but another you’d only half considered could be a brilliant deal. Don’t buy something you don’t want just because it’s a bargain, but do keep an open mind.
How can I stay safe on Black Friday and Cyber Monday?
Black Friday and Cyber Monday brings out the scammers as well as the sellers, so be wary of unsolicited emails or links to deals on social media no matter how legitimate they look. Anything asking for card details or login details is a scam. Phishing sites do big business on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, so be extra suspicious – and if you’re on a PC, make sure your security software is up to date. Many security suites automatically block known scam sites.
