UPDATE: Previously set to be announced in August, the Fujifilm GFX 50S II will now be announced on 02 September – along with a new lens, the Fujinon GF 35-70mm f/4.5-5.6.

The Fujifilm GFX 50S II will, obviously, be the successor to the original Fujifilm GFX 50S. While it will reportedly retain the current model's 50MP medium format image sensor, it will inherit both the chassis and in-body image stabilization system of the new Fujifilm GFX 100S, and could come in around $4,000.

According to Fuji Rumors, not only will the new camera be announced next month, but it will be accompanied by the new Fujinon GF 35-70mm f/4.5-5.6 optic – said to be a small, collapsible budget zoom with no optical stabilization or aperture ring, and a $500 price tag.

This would represent a change of tack for the GF system, offering a budget lens to pair with a lower-priced (for medium format) GFX body.

UPDATE (24 Jun 2021): The rumored Fujifilm GFX 50S II will look identical to the GFX 100S, with the new body accommodating the same in-body image stabilization system (IBIS).

According to new reports the Fujifilm GFX 50S II – which is expected to launch in August – will possess the exact same chassis as the recent Fujifilm GFX 100S. This is the smaller version of the 'oversized-DSLR' style Fujifilm GFX 100, which while compact possesses different proportions to the current Fujifilm GFX 50S – in large part to make space for the IBIS module.

"You might remember how the great guys at Nokishita spotted a registration about a camera that has 'almost the size' of the Fujifilm GFX100S," writes Fuji Rumors. "Well, our sources reached out to us, saying we should replace “almost” with 'exactly'. In fact, we received information that the Fujifilm GFX 50S MKII will have the same outer shell of the Fujifilm GFX100S."

Again, as per earlier rumors, the GFX 50S II will make use of this same chassis and incorporate an IBIS system. "I am glad to report, that, despite being substantially cheaper than the GFX100S, and even cheaper than any current GFX 50 camera, the Fujifilm GFX 50S MKII will still have IBIS," adds Fuji Rumors.

With August rapidly approaching, we expect plenty more leaks about the Fujifilm GFX 50S II to trickle through.

ORIGINAL STORY (18 May 2021): Fujifilm's next camera has been leaked online: the Fujifilm GFX 50S II will reportedly be launching in August, possibly featuring in-body image stabilization (IBIS) but retaining the original 51.4MP sensor.

The Fujifilm GFX 50S II would, of course, be the successor to the groundbreaking Fujifilm GFX 50S – which is still one of the best medium format cameras. However, it has been outclassed in many respects by its successors – not least the Fujifilm GFX 100S, which boasts a similar size but with IBIS and a huge 102MP image sensor.

While the GFX 50S II reportedly retains the same 51.4MP image sensor as the original model, it will apparently redress the balance by adding image stabilization to the mix – making it an appealing alternative to the 100S for users who want the IBIS but don't necessarily need the resolution.

The new camera, carrying the product name FF210001, was registered back in March. Fuji Rumors "110% confirms" that this is the Fujifilm GFX 50S II, and adds that "it 100% surely uses the same 50MP sensor of the original GFX 50S".

Fuji Addict added more details concerning the potential image stabilization. “It looks like the location of the antenna is pretty close to how the GFX100S is laid out," wrote the site, "so the camera that is coming should be a GFX camera that will likely also have IBIS in it and be of a similar form factor as the GFX100S.”

According to Nokishita, which first reported the camera, "the planned release date of detailed materials at this time is August 27 2021."

Concurrently, a series of images have been posted online from an FCC certification that show a silver Fujifilm GFX camera. While these had been suggested as images of the GFX 50S II, it seems that they are actually of an early GFX 100S. Still, if Fujifilm were to release the new camera with an X-series-style silver finish, we would be very happy to see it!
