The longstanding desktop video editor Adobe Premiere has shrunk down to fit on Android devices. Announced on September 22, Adobe Premiere’s free mobile version has now arrived for Android devices, nearly one full year after arriving on iOS.
Adobe Premiere’s mobile version is designed for editing videos while on the go, trading some of the more advanced tools for shortcuts built for the small screen.
The mobile version of Adobe Premiere maintains favorite features from the desktop app, including the multi-track timeline for layering in videos, music, text, and effects. Adobe says that timeline is built for precise control over timing.
While some tools will feel familiar for desktop users, the mobile app is designed around quick edits to assemble social media content or to jump-start a project for further editing inside of the desktop-based software later.
Several of the video editor's tools are built around a more mobile-friendly design, including offering templates as starting points. An Enhance Audio tool helps adjust audio quality with one tap.
Like Adobe Premiere on iOS, the mobile Android version is free – and Adobe says the app doesn’t have ads or forced log-ins either. A few tools and features, including generative AI tools and cloud storage, require a paid upgrade. But creators can edit and export a video without watermarks and at up to 4K using the free version.
Premiere is a longstanding desktop video editor. The software has been around for more than 30 years and has even been used in some Hollywood films.
Adobe has previously brought similar video editing tools to mobile using apps like Premiere Rush. But Premiere Rush was discontinued after the announcement of Premiere for iPhone. Now, Android users finally join that list, bringing the video editor to desktop, iOS, and Android.
Adobe’s mobile version of the video editor is free – but it has a lot of competition even among free apps built for social media like TikTok’s CapCut and Instagram’s Edits.
Adobe Premiere is now available from Google Play for Android devices, joining the iOS app and desktop video editor.
