On April 3rd, 2026, Asanuma Corporation will release the Agfa Photo Realishot DC8300 in Japan, a compact camera with 8x optical zoom and up to 21MP stills, priced at ¥22,000 – already available in the US for only $99.99.
Affordable, easy-to-use point-and-shoot cameras are popular these days, dominating best-seller compact camera charts, especially in Japan. Agfa Photo's latest release could be next in line.
Founded in 1867, the German imaging brand is set to launch the Realishot DC8300 in Japan, approaching a very familiar concept – closely monitoring the specs of a hugely popular Kodak compact from 2022 – the Kodak Pixpro FZ55.
Article continues belowNo cutting-edge tech – but features people actually use
The Realishot DC8300 follows the 2024 DC8200, bringing modest upgrades without chasing high-end innovation. At just approx. 100g, it's lightweight, simple, and firmly aimed at casual users.
While premium compacts push boundaries – like the Fujifilm GFX100RF featuring a 102MP medium-format sensor – that's not what this camera is trying to be.
Instead, Agfa Photo is leaning into something else entirely: simplicity and affordability – not really surprising at this price point.
Kodak Pixpro FZ55 vs. Realishot DC8300
Cameras like the Kodak Pixpro FZ55 prove there's strong demand for straightforward, no-fuss photography. Despite its age, it continues to top sales charts thanks to its ease of use and accessible price – crowned as the most popular camera of 2025 by MapCamera.

Looking at the DC8300's specs, the similarities are hard to miss. On paper, the Realishot DC8300 edges ahead in a few areas.
It offers more zoom (8x vs 5x) and comes slightly lighter – though it's marginally larger overall. Video specs remain similar, and the rear control layout sticks to a familiar, beginner-friendly design with a simple button interface.
Saying this, the Pixpro FZ55 features a true 16MP sensor, and the DC8300 comes with an 8MP sensor upscaled to 21MP. In real-world language, this means that Kodak's compact produces sharper images and better low-light results – but gives users less reach.

For many, cameras like the Pixpro FZ55 – or the new Realishot DC8300 – hit the sweet spot between price, performance, and simplicity.
And that's exactly why Agfa Photo's new release has all the ingredients of a future best-seller in Japan.
