With a couple of fold phones under their belt and a newly published trademark for rollable handset the Samsung Galaxy Z Roll, Samsung is currently, ahem, on a roll. However, it seems that Samsung has another trick up its sleeve, as the South Korean manufacturer has filed a trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for a new slidable handset, the Samsung Galaxy Z Slide.
It's not immediately clear whether the 'Z Roll' and the 'Z Slide' will be the same device (perhaps named for different markets?), or whether they will be two separate products.

However, LetsGoDigital says that it doubts that these two different Samsung trademarks are for the same product, "The company is not known for applying for multiple trademarks for one and the same product – unlike other brands, such as LG Electronics. However, almost all of Samsung's trademarks result in an end product."
One possibility is that while the Samsung Galaxy Z Roll will have a horizontal pull-out screen, the Samsung Galaxy Z Slide could have a vertical pull-out screen. This would be similar to the horizontal folding of the Z Fold and the vertical folding of the Z Flip. However, with little concrete information available on the Z Slide outside of its name, there's no guarantee that this potential design will be the case.
It's not clear when we'll hear any more about the Z Slide, but the most obvious opportunity seems to be the Galaxy Unpacked 2021 event, which is due for August. This event will likely introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, so it stands to reason that we'll also hear more about the upcoming rollable and slidable handsets too.
