Urth Magnetic UV lens filter (Plus+) review

Poor magnets let down an otherwise solid UV filter

Digital Camera World Verdict

The image quality of the Urth UV lens filter (Plus+) is second to none, with no effect on overall image sharpness. Urth’s clean and simple design is fantastic, and its eco credentials are the cherry on top. However, I could not abide by the weak magnets that left the filter rattling around annoyingly in its magnetic holder, and certainly wouldn’t trust it to protect my lens. The magnetic filter can also be screwed in which almost redeems it as a protection filter, but I would avoid the extra cost of the magnetic version and just buy Urth’s cheaper screw-in-only variety.

  • +

Lens protection benefits (when screwed in)

Cons

A UV lens filter is exactly as it is named, a lens that filters out UV rays from hitting your camera lens that can cause unwanted changes in contrast or unnatural hues. UV filters have existed for decades, all the way back to the film era when filters were often a necessity to cut UV wavelengths from hitting sensitive film.
