Fancy taking an underwater dip and doing your bit to save the ocean at the same time? GoPro and PADI have partnered together to ask people to capture an underwater selfie in the name of ocean conservation.

Chief Brand and Membership Officer for PADI Worldwide Kristin Valette-Wirth says “We’re thrilled to partner with GoPro to inform, excite and empower people everywhere to seek adventure and save the ocean on Underwater Selfie Day and year-round.”

GoPro's wide angle views are perfect for capturing not only your expression but whatever experience you are immersing yourself in. "So, kicking off an international #UnderwaterSelfieDay, which also celebrates protecting the environment, is something we are thrilled to be a part of,” says GoPro Vice President of Global Marketing Rick Loughery. “Participants will also notice that the HERO9 Black they are vying for is the first GoPro to be sold in plastic-free packaging—one more step we are taking to protect the environment.”

How to participate

Dive below the surface and take your best underwater selfie with your GoPro, or share one from a past adventure, showcasing the world you want to save so you and future generations can continue to seek adventure. Post your selfie photo or video to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter on 7 November 2020.

Tag PADI and GoPro with #underwaterselfieday. A panel of judges will identify the top post based on performance and style, composition and framing, and overall creativity. The winning entry will earn $2,000 US and the recently launched GoPro HERO9 Black. Two runner-up participants will also win the GoPro HERO9 Black. This GoPro is the first to offer a 23.6MP sensor to deliver 5K video with 14.7MP frame grabs, 20MP photos, next-generation 3.0 features and more.
