Amazon Prime Big Deal Days has delivered a huge discount on one of GoPro’s most exciting cameras, with the GoPro Max2 now down to just $299 from its regular $499.99 price.

That saves you a very cool $200.99 on GoPro’s flagship 360 camera, and at this price, it becomes a seriously tempting option for anyone wanting to experiment with immersive video.

The Max2 is GoPro’s latest-generation 360 camera, capable of capturing true 8K 360-degree video using its dual-sensor setup. The beauty of shooting in 360 is that you do not have to worry nearly as much about framing while you are recording. Instead, you can capture everything around you and choose your composition afterwards, making it particularly useful for action sports, travel, motorcycles, skiing, cycling and adventures where pointing a conventional camera in exactly the right direction is not always possible.

GoPro has also packed the Max2 with features that make it far more than a novelty camera. It can capture 29MP 360 photos, offers 10-bit color and GP-Log for creators who want more flexibility when grading their footage, and uses six microphones to capture immersive audio. I also really like the replaceable glass lenses, which can simply be twisted off and swapped if one gets damaged – something that makes a lot of sense on a camera designed to be taken into some pretty demanding environments.

The real appeal, though, is what you can do with the footage afterwards. A 360 camera allows you to reframe your video into a conventional shot, follow a subject, create dramatic sweeping movements, or produce those almost drone-like invisible-selfie-stick shots that have become synonymous with modern 360 cameras. GoPro’s Quik app also offers AI-powered object tracking and editing tools to make turning all that footage into something shareable considerably easier.

At $499.99, the Max2 is a serious investment if you are simply curious about 360 video. At $299, however, this Amazon Prime Big Deal Days discount changes the equation considerably. Saving more than $200 on a current GoPro that can shoot true 8K 360 video makes this one of the more eye-catching action-camera deals I have seen in the sale, particularly for anyone who has been waiting for the right excuse to jump into 360 filmmaking.
