Fashionably late: The stylish new OM System PEN is such a hit that the camera is already on backorder in Japan
The comeback compact camera has received so many orders that it's now delayed until November in its home country
The world has waited five years for this retro camera to make a comeback, but customers in Japan will have to wait a little longer – the brand new OM System PEN has received so many orders that it is currently facing delays in Japan.
Parent company OM Digital Solutions has just announced that, due to overwhelming demand for the aggressively priced and excitingly specced camera, some pre-orders "may be delayed until November or later" in the region.
While orders are currently unaffected in other territories, the new PEN has been so well received that it wouldn't surprise me to see similar demand across the globe.
This Micro Four Thirds camera is not only one of the most stunning-looking bodies on the market, it's also comparable in size to the ever-popular (and ever out of stock) Fujifilm X100VI – making this a great option for anyone seeking a compact, capable camera.
Moreover, the PEN represents unbelievable value for money; for just $999 / $849 / AU$1,499 it offers weather sealing, in-body image stabilization and an electronic viewfinder, a combination virtually unheard of at that price.
It also possesses a suite of impressive features. While its native resolution is 20.4MP, it can shoot 50MP and 80MP high-resolution stills, boasts advanced features like 30fps pre-capture (aka Pro Capture), as well as computational photography tools such as software-driven neutral density filters to achieve slow shutter speed effects without the need for a physical ND filter.
I'm a big fan of the camera, calling it "the best bang-for-buck body on the market (not to mention one of, if not the, best-looking) and without a doubt the best everyday carry camera available for photography purists" in my OM System PEN review.

It's available for preorder now, shipping in late September across Europe and late October in the US – and judging by demand in Japan, you should probably get in early if you want one at launch!
