Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 review

Microsoft’s clamshell laptop is still a sleek productivity machine, but it might not be enough to keep up with the competition.

Digital Camera World Verdict

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 is probably the sleekest and most sophisticated-looking Windows machine out there, with looks to turn the heads of MacBook enthusiasts, although now its fifth generation, the big bezels are starting to look dated. The lackluster port selection on Microsoft’s device continues to be its most disappointing aspect. The Surface Laptop 5 is a great productivity machine, capable of breezing through everyday work, and handling photo editing, although this is not the ideal device for video work.

First introduced in 2017, after Microsoft successfully managed to turn around its Surface Pro lineup of hybrid devices into a critical and commercial success, it introduced the more traditional Surface Laptop line, showing that it wasn’t just Apple that could make smart-looking devices.

The Surface Laptop was made to show off Microsoft’s Windows 10 S operating system, made for lower-powered machines. Windows 10 S never took off and was quickly shelved, but the product line lives on, and Windows 10S has since contributed to Microsoft's excellent return to form with Windows 11.
