The Sony A6500 looks to have been discontinued, if the Sony website is to be believed. B&H Photo also seems to confirm this, with the Sony A6500 listed as discontinued on its website.

According to other major stockists, including Adorama, the Sony A6500 is not available on their sites either, although there are limited numbers at some retailers across the US and UK.

Online deals look to be extremely limited, all of which points to the probable discontinuation of the five-year-old Sony A6500 – although Sony has not officially confirmed this as of yet.

When it came out in 2016, the Sony A6500 was the most advanced of Sony's APS-C mirrorless line-up, sitting above the beginner-friendly Sony A6000 and the enthusiast-level Sony A6300. It was superseded in 2019 by the Sony A6600 and was closely matched in most areas by the Sony A6400.

With six APS-C mirrorless cameras in its line-up at one point, it was inevitable that Sony would slim down the range. Even though the A6300 fell by the wayside last autumn, it's not a huge surprise to see the A6500 following suit.

The Sony lineup looks a little clearer without it, although it will still be challenging for customers to discern the differences between the entry-level A6100 and the venerable Sony A6000, which is still in production after seven years.

So with the Sony A6100, A6400 and A6600 considered modern replacements for the Sony A6000, A6300 and A6500 respectively, and with the A6300 and most likely the A6500 consigned to history, can we then expect Sony to follow suit and discontinue the A6000 in the near future too? Only time will tell.
