I always think the best holiday gifts are the ones people really want but would probably never justify buying for themselves. And at just $139 in Amazon’s Prime sale, the DJI Neo fits that description almost perfectly.

DJI Neo: was $199 now $139 at Amazon

The DJI Neo is a tiny, lightweight drone designed to make aerial photography and video effortless, offering easy palm take-off, intelligent flight modes, and stabilized 4K recording in an incredibly portable package.

Usually $169, the DJI Neo has dropped to just $139, saving you $30 on what is already one of DJI’s most affordable and approachable drones. At this price, I think it makes a fantastic holiday gift, whether you are shopping for someone who has always wanted to try flying a drone or simply looking for an excuse to put something rather fun under the tree for yourself.

What makes the Neo particularly appealing as a gift is that it doesn’t feel intimidating. This isn’t a huge, complicated drone that requires you to become an experienced pilot before you can enjoy it. It weighs just 135g, can take off and land directly from the palm of your hand, and can automatically follow and film you using DJI’s intelligent shooting modes.

Despite its tiny size and relatively tiny price, it can also capture stabilized 4K video at up to 30fps, while its full-coverage propeller guards make it considerably less daunting for someone taking their first steps into drone flying. You can even control it through the DJI Fly app on your smartphone, so you don’t necessarily need to invest in a traditional controller straight away.

That combination is precisely why I think the Neo works so well as a holiday gift. It is small enough to throw into a bag, simple enough for a complete beginner to enjoy, and capable enough that it doesn’t immediately feel like a toy once the novelty wears off.

And, of course, there is absolutely nothing wrong with gifting one to yourself.

At $139, the DJI Neo is now inexpensive enough to become one of those slightly extravagant holiday purchases that is actually quite easy to justify. Whether it ends up wrapped beneath the tree for somebody else or mysteriously arrives addressed to you, this is one Prime sale deal I would be very tempted by.
