The current global coronavirus crisis has caused economic difficulties in many different sectors – and the creative industry is no different. However, content creators might be pleased to hear that Adobe has recently announced a Creative Residency Community Fund, a $1 million fund to support creators from various field with $500–$5,000 grants.

Due to the detrimental effect of COVID-19 on the creative community, Adobe has decided to restructure its annual Adobe Creative Residency program in order to support creators around the world with funding for their personal projects and hiring them for Adobe-commissioned projects over the next year.

This fund will be open worldwide, so any creator can apply, regardless of where they live. In addition to the payment, recipients of both the personal projects and commissioned projects will get additional support from Adobe, including a Creative Cloud membership and career guidance workshops.

The Adobe Creative Residency was introduced five years ago with the goal to offer creative professionals starting their career the ability to experiment and pursue a personal project for a year. Since the program began, it has grown from two residents in the first year to nine in the past year. However, to accommodate the newly created Community Fund, there will only two Creative Residents this year.

The first is Maddy Beard, who is exploring the use of interaction design to promote mindfulness in daily life in a time when people are increasingly reliant on technology. The second Creative Resident is Christina Poku, who is investigating the idea of technology as abundance. She's using photography, GIFs and set design to make staged scenes that explore how technology can create growth, build community and change barriers to access.

If you're interested in applying for the Adobe Creative Residency, you can do so here.
