This black-and-white disposable camera might be the most fun you can have with photography for twenty quid

There are plenty of exciting new cameras available to pre-order right now, but I’m not sure many of them can compete with this one when it comes to sheer value for money. This wonderfully inexpensive little digital camera is currently available to pre-order at Amazon UK for just £20.99, making it the sort of camera purchase you can make almost entirely for the fun of it.

And that is really where the appeal lies. Not every camera needs to have a full-frame sensor, blisteringly fast autofocus or cost more than your first car. Sometimes you simply want something small, fun and inexpensive that you can throw into a bag, hand to the kids, take on holiday or carry around without worrying about damaging thousands of pounds' worth of equipment.

Cheap compact digital cameras have also become unexpectedly fashionable again. The resurgence of the humble digicam has seen photographers and younger creators embracing the imperfect, slightly nostalgic look that these cameras can produce, particularly when compared with the heavily processed photographs we have become accustomed to seeing from modern smartphones.

At £20.99, this camera sits firmly at the fun end of the market, and that is exactly why I think it is so appealing. It costs less than plenty of camera straps, memory cards and even some lens caps, yet gives you an entirely separate camera that you can experiment with. At this price, expectations obviously need to remain realistic, but that almost feels like part of the charm.

It could also make a brilliant first camera for someone who simply wants to experiment with photography without immediately reaching for their phone. There is something very different about carrying a dedicated camera, however inexpensive it might be, and having a device whose sole purpose is encouraging you to look for photographs.

In a world where new cameras regularly arrive with four-figure price tags, there is something refreshingly entertaining about seeing a new camera that costs little more than a takeaway for two. I certainly wouldn't expect it to replace my Leica, but for £20.99, I would have an awful lot of fun finding out what it can do.
