Dedication adds a premium to the price of most macro flash systems, but this manual unit foregoes auto exposure facility in favour of low cost. Build quality is still good.
The flash ring has dual tubes which cover most of its circumference, and two mini lights help with focusing.
The hotshoe-mounting controller is well made and has controls for using one or both flash tubes, and for setting power between full and 1/128th output.
Six adaptor rings are supplied, in sizes between 49mm and 67mm, so the Viltrox fits most lenses. It’s a basic unit but can deliver high quality results for a cheap price.
Pros… Effective range of manual adjustments, good build quality.
Cons… No auto flash exposure, so it’s completely manual.
WE say… An excellent buy if you don’t mind setting power levels.
