The announcement of the Nikon Z fc was met with a lively buzz of excitement – in fact, it was so lively that Nikon Japan has recently issued a notice advising that this retro-inspired camera will be delayed due to the unexpectedly high number of pre-orders. Nikon has also announced that the accompanying Nikkor Z 28mm f/2.8 lens is delayed as well.

If you've already pre-ordered your own Nikon Z fc, there's a chance you should still receive it when the first batch ships out on 23 July. However, if you've been holding off on clicking the Order button, then it may "take some time" before you finally have the Nikon Z fc in your hands.

As reported by Nikon Rumors (and translated by Google), Nikon Japan stated: "We are pleased to inform you that the release date of the APS-C size (Nikon DX format) mirrorless camera 'Z fc' and related products, which was announced to be released in late July 2021, has been decided. We have received a large number of reservations for the 'Z fc' and 'Z fc 16-50 VR SL Lens Kits' that exceed our expectations. For some customers who are currently making reservations, it may take some time before the product is delivered.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to customers who are waiting for our products. We will do our utmost to deliver the product as soon as possible, and we appreciate your understanding."

However, the Nikon Z 28mm f/2.9 Special Edition lens is a slightly different story, as it appears that the initial release of this lens has been postponed as well. Nikon Japan stated: "The 'Z fc 28mm f / 2.8 Special Edition Kit', which is scheduled to be released in late July 2021, has received a large number of reservations beyond expectations, and due to the delay in parts supply, the supply amount is sufficient for release. Is not expected to be available. Therefore, we have decided to postpone the release. We will inform you of the release date as soon as it is confirmed."

It's worth noting that Nikon hasn't yet provided a new release date for either the lens or the second Nikon Z fc batch. With the continued component shortages across the camera industry complicating the matter, it's possible that Nikon doesn't want to set itself a concrete deadline that it might not be able to hit.
