Why I’m tempering my expectations for Nikon’s cryptic new product showcase
The rumor mill has been eking out any indication that a major Nikon product launch is on the way, but I’d advise optimism with a healthy dose of caution
Nikon silly season is beginning to heat up. As we head into the final third of 2026, the ‘Big N’ has only released two lenses, plus a development announcement for the Nikon Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S. And with a history of releases in September, October and November, the anticipation is high. So, when Nikon Rumors posts about an “exclusive product presentation” from Nikon UK on September 25 at Grays of Westminster, it’s hard not to get a little bit excited about potential camera rumors.
The event, hosted by Nikon and RED creative, Bruno Murari, is even more curious given that no products are mentioned in the event schedule. What will be on show is simply referred to as “product highlights” or “the products,” which Nikon Rumors has described as "a bit strange" and "cryptic," and I have to agree; it does sound a little coy.
A string of rumors
All of this comes off the back of another Nikon Rumors post that I reported on last week. An Internet sleuth noticed gaps in the schedules of various Nikon Ambassadors, with a series of Nikon events to follow later in September, and theorized that this could point towards a possible product release. Complete conjecture, of course. It wasn’t all that long ago that Nikon Rumors reported on “almost everything” being supposedly delayed until next year, so at this point it’s anyone’s guess.
A release could happen, but it’s far from certain
I keep coming back to the same conclusion: it’s certainly the time of year for a big release, so nothing is beyond the pale. But if the rest of the year is anything to go by, not to mention some less-than-stellar financial results and ongoing market turmoil due to various factors, including Trump tariffs and component shortages. Suffice to say, I’m cautiously optimistic about a major Nikon release this year but heavily tempering my expectations.
