You might think that this had something to do with Facebook acquiring Instagram for the not-to-be-sniffed at sum of $1 billion – but you’d be wrong. The apps were developed by way of a Facebook employee hackathon, which might seem odd in light of recent events.

While Facebook initially stated that their intention with the new filters had been to draw users away from Instagram, their motive is now to acquire users who don’t have Instagram on their phones by giving them the option of using Facebook’s filter facility instead.
