The pocket gimbal camera is a growing new category sparked by the viral popularity of the DJI Osmo Pocket series – and now a major gimbal maker is launching its own unusual take. The Hohem Eyepic is a compact gimbal camera, but the removable tiny camera also doubles as a wearable action cam.
The Hohem name is largely associated with a wide range of gimbals, so it makes sense that the Chinese tech brand’s first-ever camera would be one that’s meant for a gimbal mount.
While the gimbal camera category is growing increasingly competitive with options like the DJI Pocket 4 and the Insta360 Luna Ultra, the Eyepic feels like a cross between the popular DJI Pocket series and the Insta360 Go 3S, a tiny action cam that pops out of its housing.
The Eyepic’s key feature is that the camera actually pops off the gimbal, allowing creators to turn the device into a wearable hands-free camera instead. Like many action cameras, when the Eyepic is off its gimbal, it’s also waterproof to 10m / 32.8 feet, so the camera’s versatility comes into play for more than just size.
The Hohem Eyepic can shoot 4K video at 60fps, and the camera can shoot horizontally or flip for vertical shots. The gimbal’s built-in 2.51-inch screen can also flip with the camera, and when the camera is unmounted from the gimbal, the screen still works to preview the shots and adjust the camera settings from up to 10m / 32.8 feet away.
Unmounted from the gimbal, the tiny camera uses a magnetic mount and is compatible with a lanyard and hat-clip for capturing hands-free footage.
For now, the Hohem Eyepic is just an early preview – the tech brand hasn’t yet shared key specifications like the sensor size and lens on the camera. The new 2-in-1 gimbal camera isn’t expected to launch until the first quarter of 2027, but Hohem is debuting its first camera at IFA 2026 in Berlin, Germany, this weekend.
The Eyepic isn’t Hohem’s only launch for the electronics trade show. The company is also debuting two new smartphone gimbals.
The Hohem iSteady V4 Ultra builds on the success of the earlier model with a Frame-to-Track mode that helps keep the subject in the frame while shooting smoother video.
The company’s more affordable smartphone gimbal series, the iSteady X, will also get an upgrade with the X4, which will offer Apple DockKit tracking and infinite 360-degree panning. Unlike the V4, the iSteady X4 doesn’t have a removable touchscreen remote but instead integrates the screen into the gimbal.
Hoehm also unveiled the Mic 2, a lightweight wireless mic built for using up to four mics with one transmitter. The compact mics use a 7.7g transmitter with 48kHz, 24-bit audio, AI-based noise cancellation, and a range of up to 300m / 984 feet.
Hoehm says that final specifications and pricing will be shared closer to launch.
