Photographing the Grammys and the US Open don't sound like typical gigs for new photographers, but last year's Getty interns shot those events and more, appearing in media outlets from NPR to ESPN. Getty is now accepting applications for its Editorial Photography Internship Program 2026 in the US.

Three lucky applicants will secure paid positions gaining “hands-on” experience alongside some of the best in photojournalism, snapping either news, sports, or entertainment photography.

Getty says the chosen interns will be exposed to the full editorial workflow, including editorial and commercial assignments, client relations, and video and field photo editing, getting the job done with professional gear supplied by Canon.

This marks the third year of Getty’s editorial internship program. In a press release, the head of editorial at Getty, Ken Mainardis, said: “Each year, we’re inspired by the creativity and drive of our interns. The 2026 program will continue to expand opportunities for aspiring photographers to learn, experiment, and grow within one of the world’s most dynamic editorial environments.”

Interns will be based in Washington D.C.(news), New York (sport), and Los Angeles (entertainment). Getty says applicants need to be “passionate about storytelling and content creation and eager to learn.” While seeking "professionalism" too, Getty also says no professional portfolio or experience is required.

After successful completion of the program, Getty guarantees interns portfolio and media placement, a professional recommendation, and their names being added to its “preferred provider” list. You could even land a full-time staff position depending on availability and your performance as an intern.

Speaking to Getty, 2025 news editorial photography intern, Heather Diehl, said: “This experience has served as a wonderful bridge into the D.C. photojournalism community, where I continue to learn from some of the industry’s most talented photographers."

You can find more information about the internships and apply through the following links. Getty says the final three candidates will be announced throughout 2026.
