The HONOR 8X is the perfect Christmas gift phone for photography lovers

By DCW team

Its price won’t drain your entire Christmas present budget.

Finding a phone that will satisfy camera hounds is not easy, but the HONOR 8X is up to the challenge. And at £229, its price won’t drain your entire Christmas present budget and leave the rest of your friends and family with vouchers for hugs.

Christmas family album

The HONOR 8X has a high-quality 20-megapixel rear camera with an f/1.8 lens. It offers best-in-class low light sensitivity, perfect for those candle-lit Christmas scenes. And as there’s a secondary depth sensor you can shoot shallow depth of field portraits.

HONOR uses a clever combination of software and high-quality hardware to make the most of the HONOR 8X’s camera. It has an AI mode that uses built-in artificial intelligence to analyse the scene and alter the colour profile and shooting mode to offer great results without the effort you’ll need to put in when shooting with a DSLR.

Unlike many of its peers, the HONOR 8X also has a smart Night Shot mode. This combines multiple exposures to capture beautiful portraits, and “presents under the tree” shots even in very low light. All your photos will be merry and bright, no matter how dark the room. The phone just needs 6-7 seconds to take perfect images..

You can use this mode handheld, boosting the HONOR 8X’s photographic flexibility even further. A secondary depth camera lets you shoot shallow depth of field portraits, a great way to show off the twinkling lights of your Christmas decorations.

To top off the camera array, a high-resolution 16-megapixel selfie camera around the front lets you capture a family portrait without leaving anyone out.

The HONOR 8X’s AI-assisted, low-light ready camera is a top draw. But it is only one of many.

Its huge 6.5-inch FullView HD 2.0 display has a screen border of just 4.25mm. This maxes out the display size while keeping the HONOR 8X easy to fit in your pocket. It is also just 7.8mm thick.

The large, bright and well-saturated display is both a brilliant way to review and edit your photos, and has easily large enough to enjoy a Christmas movie on if the rest of the family wants to watch something you don’t want to touch. It has a headphone jack too!

Even after a full day of Christmas celebrations, dozens of photos and some time spent streaming YouTube or Netflix, the HONOR 8X won’t hang up its Christmas hat. Its 3,750mAh battery will see you sail into boxing day, even if you do forget to plug it in overnight.

Honor gets you more

In every respect, the HONOR 8X offers more than you’d expect, at a lower price than the competition. Its striking Aurora Glass back has a distinctive two-tone design, with elements that change as they catch the light. And its Kirin 710 CPU with GPU Turbo will keep any gamers in your family more than happy.

It’s refreshing to see a phone of such great value with so many strong features that you hardly need to consider the price to see that the HONOR 8X stands out from the crowd. It’s a brilliant Christmas gift, for your partner, a friend. Or perhaps even yourself.
