One system, every body: LUMIX S Series supports shooters of every kind, every step of the way
From the S9 to the S1II Series, the LUMIX S Series lineup empowers everyone from beginners to professionals to unlock their photo and video potential

The LUMIX S Series has come a long way since it debuted in 2018. While it still benefits from the L-Mount Alliance partnership with Leica, Sigma, Sirui and Samyang, LUMIX S is now a mature, complete, standalone system for creators of all kinds, at all levels.
This full-frame camera and lens lineup supercharges LUMIX’s photographic and video heritage with the power of full-frame imaging. And with cameras like the compact, stylish LUMIX S9 for beginners and everyday shooters, the S5II and S5IIX family for advanced creators, and the flagship S1RII, S1II and S1IIE tier for photo and video pros, the S Series ecosystem can support you through your entire imaging journey.
Moreover, LUMIX cameras also evolve over time thanks to comprehensive firmware and feature updates – so your body becomes more powerful the longer you use it. Whether you shoot part-time, full-time or as a pastime, LUMIX S is a complete and future-proof system that grows with you.
Meet the family
It doesn’t matter whether you’re upgrading from a smartphone or upgrading your professional tools – the S Series has plenty of choices to suit your needs. And because all bodies share the same color science and menu grammar, you’ll feel right at home when it’s time to upgrade or complement your camera.
The LUMIX S9 combines the size and style of a compact camera with the functions and features of a full-frame sensor with interchangeable lenses. Its unique mix of power, portability and price make it a capable companion for travel, everyday photography and vlogging on the go – and its simplicity makes it a breeze for camera newcomers.
Its 30fps burst shooting married with Phase Hybrid autofocus means that stills shooters never miss those magic moments, while the open gate 6K 30p video with V-Log ensures that creators can capture incredible footage everywhere they go. And thanks to the in-body image stabilization, offering up to 6.5 stops of shake compensation, your shots stay rock-steady.
You also get the benefit of applying Real Time LUTs to your footage, so no heavy editing is needed, and you can easily share your files to social media by using the LUMIX Lab app.
For more advanced creators and hybrid shooters, the LUMIX S5II and S5IIX offer premium performance whether your focus is on photography, videography or both. There’s a reason that this tag team has taken the industry by storm: pound for pound, they could very well be the best bodies in the business.
Both cameras pack a 24.2MP full frame image sensor capable of 6K 30p open gate, 4K 60p 10-bit 4:2:2, HFR 120fps and S&Q 180fps. For crossover shooters the S5II’s 200Mbps bitrate covers the bases, but for video specialists the S5IIX ups the ante to 800Mbps and adds All-I to the base Long GOP capture. On top of that, the S5IIX boasts external 5.8K Apple ProRes to SSD and Apple ProRes RAW to Atomos.
At the top of the tree, for high end and professional users, is the S1II family of S Pro cameras. The LUMIX S1II and S1IIE share similar resolution, at 24.1MP and 24.2MP respectively. However, the S1II’s sensor is partially stacked for extra speed – taking the already blistering 30fps bursts of the S1IIE to another dimension, offering a hair-raising 70fps continuous shooting.
The extra horsepower applies to video, too. The S1IIE will suit most stills-first and hybrid shooters, with 5.9K 30p, 4K 60p and FullHD 120p options. But for those who need an extra gear for video, the S1II boosts those capabilities to 5.1K 60p, 4K 120p and FullHD 240p. And it also boasts 15 stops of dynamic range, putting it on par with Arri and Red cameras!
The S1II also offers highly desirable open gate capture in up to 5.1K 60p. Open gate offers huge benefits for those who output in multiple aspect ratios, such as 16:9 for websites and 9:16 for social media feeds, with up to 60p making it possible to deliver multi-aspect video with slow-motion.
And if high-resolution, professional photo and video is your bread and butter, look no further than the LUMIX S1RII. This beast is built around a 44.3MP sensor with monstrous stills performance; not only can it rattle off photos at up to 40fps, the Handheld High Resolution Shooting mode enables you to capture 177MP images! Of course, the pixel-packed sensors unlock high-resolution video as well. The S1RII can capture open gate 8K 30p, 6.4K 30p, 4K 120p and FullHD 120p.
Those are the kinds of specs most cameras can’t even dream of, making this high-res hybrid the envy of other brands. And the S1II, S1IIE and S1RII all have the ability to record RAW internally, too, making the S1 Series supremely versatile.
Make your work flow
It doesn’t matter if you’re using a camera for the first time or they’ve been making you a living for years: capturing images is only the first step. It’s the workflow that truly makes or breaks the process, and this is an area that LUMIX has down pat.
Experienced and power users will enjoy the compatibility with both Frame.io and Capture One. In fact, not only is the S Series fully compatible with Capture One, but right now LUMIX is offering a FREE three-month Capture One trial to S1RII, S1II and S1IIE users – as well as existing LUMIX users. You can find out more about this can’t-miss offer here.
In addition to these industry standard professional packages, S Series shooters can maximize their imaging, sharing and editing with the LUMIX Flow and LUMIX Lab apps. LUMIX Flow is a must-have for video production, supporting your workflow from scriptwriting and storyboarding to shooting and editing. It even transforms your smartphone into an on-camera shot list and external monitor.
LUMIX Lab, meanwhile, is an essential download for all shooters. It enables you to both edit and create your own custom LUTs, as well as download them from your favorite creators – and these can even be transferred to your camera, for use in Real Time LUT mode that you can apply while you’re shooting.
LUMIX Lab also enables quick and easy transfer of files from your camera (including automatic transfer, to make life even easier), as well as seamless social media sharing, RTMP / RTMPS streaming, remote shooting and shutter remote, and even friction-free firmware updates. Speaking of which…
Constantly evolving cameras
With most camera systems, the camera you buy on day one is pretty much the same camera throughout its entire lifespan. But LUMIX is committed to customer feedback, listening to community feedback and adding new features and functionality via substantial firmware upgrades.
Again, where firmware from other brands is often little more than a way to administer occasional bug fixes, LUMIX is known for rolling out updates that absolutely transform its cameras. The latest S1II family firmware, for example, added a major new recording format and an all-new autofocus algorithm.
The LUMIX S1RII, S1II and S1IIE all benefited from support for Arri LogC3 (via an additional software key, DMW-SFU3), adding an industry-leading cinema format to their extensive shooting options. The S1RII also received Urban Sports autofocus, which debuted in the S1II and S1IIE, along with HEIF recording, UVC/UAC and Bluetooth timecode compatibility and so much more – you can see all the additions here.
