Luminar Neo is celebrating its four-year anniversary, but that’s not to suggest this coveted photo-editing software is getting long in the tooth. The Luminar Neo that thousands of photographers rely on today is a far cry from the Luminar Neo that launched back in 2022. That’s because Skylum has continuously supported its flagship software, tweaking its interface, refining its workflow, and adding a solid range of powerful new features.

In a world where artificial intelligence is constantly breaking boundaries and challenging norms, Luminar Neo has grown and innovated, maintaining its position at the forefront of AI-centric photo-editing software.

Last year’s advancements were particularly radical. Throughout 2025, Luminar Neo users were treated to a range of new features, including plug-in support for AI-portrait-retouching software, Aperty. The launch of online gallery and virtual album creator, Spaces. And a wealth of new AI-powered tools designed to perform technically advanced tasks in just a few clicks.

That wasn’t all. Back in May, Skylum launched the Luminar: Photo Editor app on Android, joining the existing Luminar Mobile on iOS. Together with Luminar Neo on Windows and macOS, Luminar was finally available on every major operating system. But Skylum didn’t stop there.

A huge fall update brought with it the launch of the Luminar Ecosystem, binding portable and home devices together via an all-new mobile-to-desktop workflow. This allowed users to begin an edit on their mobile device and seamlessly transition to the flagship desktop software.

Powerful new AI-infused tools

In 2025, Luminar Neo received a plethora of new AI-powered tools and upgrades, including Auto Adjust, Restoration, and Light Depth. Auto Adjust can be found within the Edit tab’s Develop tools. A single click causes the AI algorithm to analyze the image in question and change a variety of tonal sliders accordingly.

Restoration, found in the Catalog tab’s Enhancement tools, can be used to restore and/or colorize vintage or damaged photographs in a single click. And finally, the Light Depth tool was brought in to replace the old Relight AI in the form of a dynamic three-dimensional luminosity map, allowing users to intuitively resize and position a patch of lighting to add instant depth to images.

But of all the new AI-powered tools, AI Assistant is the most extensive. This beginner-friendly feature allows anyone – even photo-editing novices – to process their images using ready-made or bespoke prompts. Each request delivers up to three AI-generated presets to apply and/or tweak further. And if you favor a more manual approach, you can use the AI Assistant as an educational tool by inputting ‘How-to’ prompts to receive text-based guidance.

Skylum also works hard to ensure Luminar Neo remains as stable and intuitive as possible, rolling out routine updates to optimize the software, enhance its stability, and introduce quality-of-life refinements. All of this and more has resulted in a radical overhaul of Luminar Neo since its release four years ago.

And of course, Skylum isn’t resting on its laurels. Artificial intelligence and, indeed, the photo-editing space move extremely fast, making future growth and innovation vital components to ensure Luminar Neo’s continued success. At the heart of that success is a dedicated community of photographers and content creators who rely on the software to deliver increasingly impressive results.
