When you think of flash lighting you might think of big bulky plug-in lights confined to an indoor studio, but the portable Neewer Q4PRO is battery powered and brings professional flash lighting to the outdoors.
For wedding, portrait, and fashion photographers on the move, finding a lighting setup that balances portability with raw power can feel like a compromise. Enter the Neewer Q4PRO - a 400W outdoor flash designed to elevate location and studio shooting alike.
Outfitted with an 21.6V 2800mAh rechargeable battery, 1/8000s High-Speed Sync (HSS), and versatile Freeze Mode, this capable strobe delivers consistent performance across any photography style. Best of all, it acts as a true bridge between ecosystems, offering compatibility with both Neewer Q and Godox X wireless triggers for effortless multi-flash scenarios. Here's some of my favorite features the Neewer Q4PRO has to offer...
A powerful pocket rocket
With dimensions of 7.3x6.8x6.8” and weighing just 5.7 lb, the Neewer Q4PRO packs serious firepower into a very portable package, which is much more square than conventional flashes and makes the Q4PRO easier to pack away and transport to location.
Key to the Q4PRO's operation is its 2800 mAh Lithium battery which lasts for 325 full power flashes and takes 3.5 hours to charge (with 5V/2A USB charger). It can also be removed entirely and swapped out to give your Q4PRO full power in an instant.
A brand-new Quartz tube has been employed for better heat dissipation and durability and it’s able to produce power settings between 1/1-1/512 with rapid recycling times of just 0.01-1.2 sec. Though its 400w flash is powerful, the Q4PRO stays cool with a built-in silent fan.
The Q4PRO delivers a GN42 guide number and a cool daylight color temperature of 6000K(±100K). The upgraded Quartz flash tube can also be replaced as and when necessary, so it’s easy to maintain and has class-leading durability.
Enhanced compatibility
A brand-new addition to the Neewer Q4PRO is compatibility with the Godox X system such as the Xpro, X2 and X3 triggers. As with the prior model, the Q4PRO can be used with Neewer's proprietary Q triggers such as the QPRO and QZ, however new to the Q4PRO is the addition of compatibility with the Godox X system via its 2.4G wireless sync and works as both a transmitter and receiver. The Q4PRO is also compatible with the Sekonic L-858D Light Meter (RT-GX modules).
Speaking of compatibility, the Neewer Q4PRO also employs the popular Bowens mount, opening up a whole host of Neewer’s own Bowens-mount light modifiers such as softboxes and reflectors but also a wide range of third-party options, too.
Intuitive user interface
The Neewer Q4PRO boasts a super intuitive operation with dual TFT displays. The main LCD screen features a straightforward user interface for easy operation, while the auxiliary screen displays the current wireless group in a distinct color for quick recognition at a glance. There’s also tactile buttons to change between settings and a screen that displays the flash power, compensation and battery life.
The Q4PRO has five groups (A-E), each color-coded for ease of use and quickly changing between settings. Each group has 32 channels and 99 IDs.
While settings can be adjusted on your Neewer or Godox triggers, users can also use the Neewer Studio app to adjust flash settings, perform firmware updates, group devices together and manage your light output, including its brightness and color temperature.
Pro features in a portable package
Just because the Q4PRO is small and portable doesn’t mean it lacks professional features. In fact, the engineering wizards at Neewer have managed to squeeze in a 30w modelling lamp, a high speed sync of up to 1/8000 sec and a flash duration as fast as 1/28,570 sec to freeze your subject and eliminate motion blur in your subject, such as a spinning dancer or a water drop splash.
Three shooting modes are available on the Q4PRO: TTL, Manual (M) and Multi. TTL stands for Through The Lens and is an auto mode where the flash fires a low power test beam first to assess whether it needs to be brighter or darker for the scene, so it’s a fantastic easy mode to use for beginners just getting to grips with flash lighting, or those wanting to take the stress out of dialling in lots of settings. Manual (M) mode is also available for photographers looking to take full control.
As the name suggests, Multi mode allows users to fire multiple flashes in succession using the Q4PRO’s rapid recycle times as quick as 0.01 sec. In this mode the Q4PRO can fire up to 100 flashes in a row at 199Hz. This is an incredible mode to freeze the motion of a moving subject, such as a ballerina dancer spinning through a pirouette or a skateboarder kickflipping through your frame.
