Billed as the world's greatest photo game, GuruShots (opens in new tab) is an online platform that provides a fun, structured way to showcase your images while gaining global exposure for your work.
By competing in epic challenges against millions of photographers, you can get instant feedback from over three billion monthly votes and increase your ranking from Newbie to achieve the ultimate status (and bragging rights) of Guru.
GuruShots' challenges are voted on by the platform's Gurus and the wider community, and there’s a fresh challenge every day. Winners can receive prizes from GuruShots' sponsors such as Adorama, Kodak, Lowepro and Lensbaby.
The 'Macro Photography' contest gave entrants free rein to get up close and personal with any subject of their choice, but nothing says 'macro' quite like insects – and there were some stunning shots of crawling creatures and beautiful bugs!
We were particularly taken with Radek Holy's stunning shot of a bee guzzling down pollen while parked on a flower. Clive Stones captured a cracking shot of an extremely grumpy looking critter, with Dennis Macro grabbing a supremely detailed capture of a fly.
Away from creepy crawlies, christinesartventures shot a detail-packed near-abstract shot of a flower head, with Magnus Holgersson capturing a classic dewdropped flower shot, while Lizanne Mooten got the best of both worlds with a bright red bug hanging out on top of a dandelion.
The 20 highest ranked images were published in Photography Week (opens in new tab), and we're pleased to showcase these images below, along with the rest of the top 500 featured photographs in the gallery that follows.
