The Reolink OMVI 3i POE is a security camera with the quality of a ‘real’ camera

When we review security cameras at DCW, we’re used to grading them on a curve. Normally, we understand that they’re going to lag behind consumer cameras in terms of their image quality and smart features like subject tracking, and in the past we’ve rated them accordingly.

However, that’s changing, and it’s changing fast, with Reolink’s OMVI series leading the charge. Introduced at CES 2026 back in January, these security cameras for homes and businesses are delivering genuine high-quality imagery, on a par with that of a high-end consumer camera. If you’ve always been frustrated by the poor quality of security cameras – the grainy footage, the unreliable tracking, the muddiness in low light – then the OMVI series is something to know about.

The series is built around a clever system that we’ve not seen before – a triple-lens setup combining a dual-lens panoramic camera with a pan-tilt tracking lens. This allows it to simultaneously provide the two key things that users need from security cameras; the panoramic lenses deliver full 360° situational awareness, while the pan-tilt lens can track movement and hone in on detail.

Essentially, it provides a level of image quality that tech geeks like us are going to love, but wraps it up in a simple, easy-to-use package that anyone can install and operate for themselves. Top-quality home and business security no longer requires professional installation – the OMVI 3i PoE is a solution for everyone.

How three lenses deliver two functions in one

The first camera in the series, the OMVI 3i PoE (RRP £249.99), is available now. It delivers a total of 18MP resolution across its triple-lens system, with 10MP in the dual-lens panoramic and 8MP from the pan-tilt tracking lens. That’s a comparable resolution to contemporary premium compact cameras and APS-C mirrorless – the recently released Panasonic Lumix LX10, for instance, offers a similar resolution of 20MP from its 1-inch sensor.

The two camera modules work in tandem to enable sophisticated features like SyncTrack. The 360° dual-lens module spots a subject; the pan-tilt lens locks onto and follows them. The Auto Framing gesture will dynamically zoom, centre and hold focus as required, essentially functioning like a powerful telephoto. Even on consumer cameras, you generally have to choose between the broad FOV of a wide-angle and the close-up quality of a telephoto. With the OMVI 3i PoE, you get both!

As Ali Park, Reolink’s UK Country Manager says, ‘With the OMVI 3i PoE, we wanted to close the gap between what people expect from their cameras and what they've come to accept from their security systems. The triple-lens architecture means you're not choosing between coverage and clarity, and you get the full picture and the fine detail, simultaneously, without having to lift a finger.’

Connect your phone with the Reolink app, and you can fully appreciate this best of both worlds – a dual-feed viewing experience that gives you the full picture of what the camera is seeing. And if needed, you can take manual control over the pan-tilt lens to zoom in on particular points of interest.

Of course, you may not be watching at the time something noteworthy happens, and you may not want to manually comb through your footage after the fact. That’s where ReoNeura™ AI comes in. A sophisticated local AI video search tool, it allows you to sift through everything the camera has captured, and it’ll intelligently respond to plain-language search terms like ‘man carrying package’ or ‘red vehicle’. It’s fast, it works locally on your device, it instantly exports clips, and here’s the best part – we love this – it doesn’t require a monthly subscription to use. Beautiful.

The future OMVI series

More OMVI cameras are coming down the pipeline from Reolink. From July 20th, users will be able to get their hands on the OMVI 3i WiFi (£259.99), which adds in wireless functionality for those who prefer not to have to hard-wire in their security cameras.

And later in autumn of this year, we can expect to see the OMVI X16 PoE. This model will add 4K quality across all its lenses, and a triple-motor structure for pin-point precision in subject tracking. Exact pricing is still to be confirmed on this model, though we’re told to expect it to be around £375 to £460.
