Fujifilm GFX 50S lab tests
We use Imatest and DxO Analyzer hardware and software to test cameras for their colour accuracy (colour error), signal-to-noise ratio (the amount of noise in the images) and dynamic range (the ability to capture detail in very bright and dark areas). We also pick three rival cameras to test them against.
Colour error
We compared the Fujifilm GFX 50S with four key rivals: the Canon EOS 5DS, Hasselblad X1D and Pentax 645Z. The full-frame Canon EOS 5DS gave the best colour accuracy, while the Fujifilm GFX, Hasselblad X1D and Pentax 645Z were more wayward. However, most users of cameras like these will edit colours to their taste anyway.
Signal-to-noise ratio
The GFX’s Raw files gave the best signal-to-noise ratio we’ve yet seen at ISO 100, and it keeps its lead through most of the ISO range. With JPEGs, the results are much closer.
Dynamic range
The GFX 50S delivered slightly disappointing dynamic range results compared to its medium format rivals at low ISOs, but it caught up by ISO 400. It does have a Dynamic Range expansion mode, which was disabled for our tests.
