As someone who spends a lot of time testing Fujifilm cameras, I’ve always felt the X-T30 line is one of the most enjoyable everyday shooters the company makes: lightweight, tactile, and just the right balance of manual control without overwhelming new users.

The twin-lens kit also makes the deal more interesting. Instead of the usual single kit zoom, you’re getting a ready-to-go setup that covers a broad shooting range straight out of the box, turning the camera into a really capable travel or everyday photography option. For people who want to try different focal lengths without committing to multiple expensive XF lenses straight away, this bundle actually makes a lot of sense – and getting it at a Black Friday discount takes the sting out of that early investment.

This is a very surprising discount considering the camera’s release is still fresh. If you were already eyeing up the X-T30 III, this might be the time to move, as I doubt this price will hold for long once the sales end, and for a camera that’s barely been on shelves, it’s one of the more surprising bargains of the week.

If your heart still beats for DSLR (like mine) and you're looking for a top professional camera, the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV might already be sitting on your wishlist.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is now £1,789 – down from £2,489 – saving you £700 on what we rated as one of the very best DSLRs for stills and video in existence. 

We saw this price from Wex during Black Friday week, but the huge reduction is back again for 2026 - and I fear we may not see this camera even on sale come next year.

With no one knowing how long Canon will continue supporting its DSLR lineup, this deal is hard to ignore. Canon hasn't released a new DSLR since 2020, despite being the top-selling DSLR manufacturer over recent years.

With overall DSLR shipments declining, Canon still rules 90% of the global DSLR market. However, success is likely driven by entry-level bundles – that's everything else than the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV!

It boasts a solid and weather-sealed body with a comfortable grip at just 890g. The 30.4MP full-frame sensor delivers high-detail images and excellent ISO performance up to 102,400, while the 61-point AF system with Dual Pixel technology ensures fast, accurate focus even in near-dark conditions.

And the 5D Mark IV delivers the classic DSLR experience – from the mirror slap and long battery life to compatibility with Canon's EF lens ecosystem.

Is this our 'last' chance?

At this shockingly low price, I can't get off the feeling that the time to buy the Canon 5D Mark IV might be over soon, at least brand-new and sealed. After all, Canon has largely shifted to mirrorless cameras, the 5D line is reportedly discontinued, and remaining stock may be limited.

On the other hand, official support hasn't ended, DSLRs still have a loyal following, and "new old stock" could continue to surface, so it's not guaranteed the camera will vanish overnight.

That said, industry trends and clearance-style discounts suggest that availability of brand-new, sealed units is shrinking, making this deal a rare chance to get the 5D Mark IV at such a low price.

Either way, at a price this low, it's hard to pass up the chance to get one while you still can.

Kodak cameras are making a comeback – long after the public though the brand was killed off by the death of film photography and the arrival of digital imaging.

Kodak's revival has been so strong that earlier this year, it was even the biggest selling camera brand in Japan!

The secret to the success is tied to the fact that simple point-and-shoot cameras have also been making a big comeback in the last year or so – and this is what Kodak has been specializing in. As such, Kodak has been one of the few brands that could meet the demand from those who wanted to turn their back on their smartphone cameras – or wanted a fun photo-taking device for parties and such.

The point-and-shoot camera is where Kodak first made its name over one hundred years ago - "You press the shutter, and we do the rest", George Eastman told the world. And the yellow giant is once again using the point-and-shoot approach to rebuild its name.

Nowadays, most of Kodak's best-selling models are low-cost digital ones - but they do sitll make some simple film cameras too. A tripod is the one accessory I try never to leave the house without when going on a landscape shoot, but the bulky size and cumbersome weight of some tripods can make them not that appealing to strap to my backpack when hiking to scenic spots.

Superzoom lenses have long been derided as a case of quantity over quality. While they typically combine the focal length ranges of both standard and telephoto zooms in a single lens, it's usually at the expense of optical quality. But that can't be said of the Nikon Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR, which, thanks to the Z-mount, boasts scintillating sharpness throughout its entire zoom range, as I reported in this thinkpiece a few weeks ago.

Well, not only is this the only superzoom I'd consider buying, but it's seen a massive price drop in the Cyber Monday sales, so today is most definitely the day to buy one!

Autofocus is very fast, highly accurate, and practically silent, while VR is worth about 4.5 stops in beating camera shake.

This is just my opinion, sure, but I don't think I'm alone in saying that the world of vlogging has changed a little! Suppose you're looking to get out there and make an impression. In that case, the starting point now shouldn't be lenses, locked-off camera quality and everything a classically trained creator would tell you – it should be about being there, in the moment, yet mysteriously having slightly better-looking video than everyone who just holds their phone in their hands. The thing is, either you (or someone you know) is trying to make it big on TikTok, YouTube shorts, or Instagram – or even one of the more classic horizontal-format platforms – and the way to create video that stands out is likely to be shooting on a phone (most phones, these days, take pretty good 4K video and people edit in the apps that belong to the platform).

Where things tend to fall down is that people also hold their phones in their hands and are let down by the length of their arms or other artistic constraints. Wouldn't it be great to be able to put the camera down and have it follow you? Or hold it a little further away and know that any shake and wobble would be compensated so the video looks just a bit more pro (but not so professional that fans woudln't think you authentic... it's a fine line).

That's what makes this a great gift for the vlogger in your life (even if that's you) – because it can handle so much and it does so with the camera that, frankly, is probably the most convenient for the platform you're trying to break out with.

The files you shoot will go straight to your phone. That's where you edit for TikTok or YouTube shorts.

There is a lot of capacity for growth too, but the investment is relatively low, and the quality jump from hand-held is massive and noticable. It's also noticeable in a funny kind of way, because the video is still shot on a phone, so people will see your work as deeply authentic, yet also perceive that it is of better quality because of the reduced shake. Sure, phones do have software to correct this a little, but this is done digitally, and the result is never as good as when mechanics like this are involved.

It's a simple thing, but it'll also likely make it easier to hold the camera at a more flattering angle to your face. The controls are simple and natural, easily reached with a thumb if you're holding the device, and there is a well-designed app with a tutorial, so it will not be a difficult transition to level up your work, and increase your likes!

We test and review a lot of cameras on Digital Camera World. So when something is special enough for us not just to buy with our own money, but also put on our podcast, you know it's worth paying attention to!

As a professional photographer, you can usually find me with one mirrorless camera on each hip and a toolbelt of extra lenses, flashes, and accessories around my waist. I still love taking pictures when I’m not working, but when I go on vacation, hauling around a kit full of gear feels, well, like work. That’s why on my last family vacation, I ended up taking more pictures on a compact camera: The OM System Tough TG-7.

The TG-7 isn’t better than my mirrorless, but this waterproof camera goes where my mirrorless camera can’t. The camera is waterproof, dropproof, freezeproof, and well, pretty much vacation-proof. I took the TG-7 out for saltwater fishing, kayaking to see the dolphins, sandy beaches, and underwater in the Airbnb pool. All places that would have me more stressed than relaxed, attempting to take my pricey Fujifilm mirrorless there.

The TG-7 has a fairly typical 12MP 1/2.3-inch sensor that’s not really anything special, but what drew me to the TG-7 over other waterproof compacts is the lens. The lens is a bright f/2 at the widest angle, which is fantastic for going underwater away from the sun and still getting usable shots.

The other unique feature of the TG-7’s lens is how close it can get. I’ve photographed everything from snowflakes to bugs using the microscopic macro mode, and it’s both incredibly fun and impressive.

While the TG-7 is my favorite compact for travel, there’s another type of photographer that I also recommend as a great camera for kids and teens. A kid's camera needs to survive dunks in the toilet and being grabbed with sticky after-dinner fingers. The TG-7 will do all that, plus as a camera made for adults, it’s one they won’t grow out of as a tween or teen.

The Fujifilm X100VI has been so popular since its launch, that for much of the time it has been on back order almost everywhere you look. Even nearly two years since this retro syled replacement for the equally successful X100V came onto the market it is never discounted – not even in the Black Friday camera deals that are live across the internet right now. Sorry if you are disappointed - but that the truth.

In the UK, you can be thankful - if you tried to buy one in the US you wouldn't find it in stock still - so you would have to join a waiting list or pay over the odds to get one. Here, you can find the X100VI in stock in a few stores - particularly if you are not worried if you get black or silver. But the price stays stubbornly fixed at the £1,599 launch price (LCE currently has both colours in stock).

But I have a tastier offer. Why not go for the newer, and better, GFX100RF? That's a medium format version of the X100VI which trades the X100VI's 40MP sensor for a big, big 100MP GFX sensor. Let's face it, most cameras are a luxury - something we use for a hobby, and to capture memories. But if you're a driver, a dash cam is a necessity. With roads getting increasingly congested, it's only a matter of time before you're involved in a near miss, or something potentially much worse. And if the unthinkable was to happen, having a dash cam record the incident could not only capture critical information about the vehicle/s involved to track down a hit and run driver, it could also be invaluable for providing your insurers with proof that you were not liable. What's more, with the rise in 'crash for cash' scams where criminals will intentionally 'brake check' you to cause a collision for the insurance pay-out, having video evidence to prove your innocence is essential.

I've actually been hit by another driver which consequently wrote off my own vehicle. I've now fitted front and rear dash cams to my replacement car, and I wouldn't drive without them. Retro compact cameras are one of the trendiest types of cameras right now, but the genre’s popularity has driven up the cost. But when I want something that’s both retro and compact, I don’t reach for a compact camera; instead, I grab my mirrorless with a tiny pancake lens with unique retro flare: The PolarPro LightLeak 28mm.

Light Leaks are a film phenomenon that happens when light finds its way into the camera from somewhere other than where it’s supposed to. This imperfection, however, creates an iconic film look with bursts of color and light on the edge of the image.

Digital cameras can’t really get light leaks the way that a piece of film can accidentally be exposed to light – or at least, that was the case before the PolarPro LightLeak came along. This series of lenses has a window in the side that I can open and close to create light leaks on digital.

My Fujifilm mirrorless has never felt more retro than when I twisted on a PolarPro LightLeak lens. And the lens is available in several mounts to turn almost any mirrorless to a more retro camera, including Sony E, Nikon X, Canon RF, and L Mount. (Sorry, Micro Four Thirds shooters.)

The other reason that I love the PolarPro LightLeak 28mm is that it’s rather small, so it makes my mirrorless feel far more portable (albeit, not pocketable).

The PolarPro LightLeak 28mm isn’t perfect – in fact, it’s designed specifically NOT to be perfect. The optics are softer, and the aperture is a fixed f/11 – but that creates the grainy, softer film-like look, even when that LightLeak window is closed. (If you want a brighter aperture and sharper optics but something similar to a light leak, I recommend the colored gels in this special effects kit.)

Depending on your camera mount, you can find the PolarPro LightLeak 28mm at an unusually affordable price right now.

Even if the mount that you need isn’t on sale, that’s far more affordable than a retro compact camera if you already have a mirrorless body to pair it with. The lens isn’t for pixel peepers, but it’s a fantastic pancake for getting that old school look on a digital camera.

Nikon's first 'videocentric' mirrorless, the Z30 is basically a Z50 sans the electronic viewfinder and with a vari-angle screen that flips out to the side and rotates to face the front, rather than the Z50's flip-down affair.

Usually sold as a kit with the Z 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 kit lens, it's been dropping in price over the years, but I think that this is the lowest price I've ever seen it – it's certainly a darn sight lower than the £959 it originally launched at!

A price check shows that the best price that a handful of competitor retailers can manage is £599, with many more selling it for £649 or even higher, so this £519 deal really is quite a bargain!

I had to do a double-take when I stumbled across this Nikon Zf Black Friday offer, because it's one hell of a better deal than Amazon thinks it is. According to Amazon's website, it's available at a modest 4% saving, down from £1360 to £1301. A £59 saving is definitely worth having, but hardly earth-shattering.

But hold on? This is a Nikon Zf full-frame retro-style camera we're talking about – that price sounds well below the usual going rate, not just a little bit off… Indeed, when I checked how this compared to other retailers, I found much higher prices across the board: the cheapest I could find was a 'sale' price of £1599, down from a list price of £2299.

So that £1301 is actually pretty much a whole grand off the 'normal' price that everyone else is quoting. My advice is to jump on this deal sooner rather than later!

The Nikon Zf is quite possibly the most desirable Nikon camera of them all. Its retro design is inspired by the Nikon FM2 SLR, featuring brass mechanical dials. But while it may look old-school on the outside, internally, it boasts modern technology, including a 24.5MP full-frame sensor, the powerful EXPEED 7 processor, and up to 8 stops of 5-axis in-body VR. It supports 4K video up to 60p and has the same advanced subject-tracking AF as the Z 8/Z 9.

The Fujifilm X Half is a retro digital camera made to feel like film – but as much as I was enamoured with the little camera when I first picked it up, I think it's too expensive. Or, at least, it usually is – A $200 discount is making the retro compact camera a much better buy.

The Fujifilm X Half is a digital compact camera that’s made to feel like film. For starters, it has the Fujifilm film simulation that’s made cameras like the X100VI so popular, along with a “film” advance lever. But, the X Half also has a film mode that comes with the film-like anticipation of seeing the photos.

I tried out the Fujifilm X Half at a recent photography show, and I was immediately charmed by the tiny retro compact camera – it’s smaller than it looks from the photos. But, I also thought it was a bit too pricey, as the camera lacks some pro-level features like RAW photos, and it still retails for $849 / £699 / AU$1,349.

I think the list price on the X Half is too steep, but a temporary price drop finally puts the retro camera at a price that feels just right for its list of features.

In the US, the price has just dropped by $200 to $650. The camera is also discounted in the UK, where it’s now £499, and in Australia, where it’s $899.

Subscriptions aren’t as attractive as perpetual licenses, but when you’re paying just £98.99 at Amazon UK for 365 days of Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom (PC/Mac), I think that’ll give even the most ardent subscription naysayers pause for thought. There’s little to say about Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and Adobe Lightroom Classic that hasn’t already been said. Heck, Photoshop is so popular it’s become a verb in its own right and is known across the world by people who haven’t ever edited a photograph in their life. It’s the OG, the industry standard by which all other photo-editing software is judged.

And while Adobe has drawn the ire of many a photographer over the years for what some have considered hefty prices and unwanted subscription models, Photoshop and Lightroom are still my go-to for editing my own images because the Creative Cloud ecosystem just works. And at £98.99 for Photoshop and Lightroom, and £61.99 for Lightroom and Lightroom Classic, you’re probably paying less than your Netflix subscription!

If you’re having trouble deciding which one to go for, it all comes down to how much you’re going to use Photoshop. If you’re new to Adobe software, you might think Photoshop is essential (it’s the grandaddy after all). But most photographers, Lightroom, and Lightroom Classic have become the go-to. That’s because they’re designed for batch editing, that’s to say, you can edit lots of images simultaneously, in batches, whereas Photoshop’s layer-based workflow is largely designed for editing one image at a time.

Lightroom has also become more like Photoshop over the years. You can locally edit images using masking and even clone or heal to remove unwanted objects. Personally, I spend most of my time in Lightroom. I turn to Photoshop for things like focus stacking and to make the most of its layer-based workflow so I can make more intricate and involved edits.

Ultimately, if your editing workflow is extremely simple, adjusting a few sliders here and there, you can probably make do with Lightroom. If you anticipate doing heavy cloning, focus stacking, frequency separation, exposure blending, etc, then be sure to pick up the bundle with Photoshop.

If there’s one camera that I think deserves far more attention from filmmakers than it gets, it’s the Fujifilm X-H2s. And with Black Friday cutting a whopping £550 off the body-only price – dropping it to £1,949 – I feel it's the right moment to talk about how much of a powerhouse this camera really is for shooting video.

Why should you choose the X-H2s as your next filmmaking camera?

Well, its 26.1MP stacked sensor and X-Processor 5 give it an exceptionally fast readout, which dramatically reduces rolling shutter, making it more reliable even when shooting fast-moving subjects or panning quickly, and this alone puts it ahead of many full-frame rivals.

The X-H2s also goes further with its video formats than many rivals. You get internal 10-bit 4:2:2 capture, full ProRes recording, and the option of shooting up to 6.2K open-gate, 4K 120p slow-motion, and 240fps in Full HD. Plus, inside you have up to 7 stops of in-body image stabilization, all in a body small enough to carry all day.

Autofocus isn’t quite as sticky as some other brands, but it is fast, and I have found it dependable in most situations. A full-size HDMI port makes external monitoring/recording easy, and dual card slots, including CFexpress, mean you can record at the highest data rates. Add Fujifilm’s F-Log2 profile, and you get a wide 14+ stop dynamic range, and you can also use all of Fujifilm’s beloved film simulations when recording video.

The reason the X-H2S is so often overlooked is simple: full-frame bodies dominate the conversation, and APS-C cameras rarely get the respect they deserve. Many filmmakers still instinctively dismiss smaller sensors as a compromise.

But in reality, I think Fujifilm has pushed APS-C to a point where it delivers not only comparable quality, but in many cases a more balanced shooting experience – especially for video. The smaller sensor allows for faster readout speeds, lighter overall setups, and more compact lens options, all while maintaining excellent detail, colour, and dynamic range. The X-H2s proves that APS-C can absolutely hold its own against full-frame for filmmaking.

With today’s Black Friday savings knocking a serious chunk off the price, there has genuinely never been a better time to buy one of the most underrated video cameras.

Following the release of the new Canon EOS R6 III, we expected to see some great deals on the older, but still very capaable, EOS R6 II. But I don't think we expected to see the price to drop quite this low (and particularly as the Mark III has still to arrive in the shops). When you take the £400 cashback into account, you can now buy the R6 II body at Clifton Cameras for just £1,399.

Sure, there are some real improvements in the Mark III - as you can find out in our Canon EOS R6 II vs R6 III comparison – but many of these will be superfluous to the needs to many users. And particularly so, that at the moment the newer version works out £1,200 more expensive.

The EOS R6 II has a 24.2MP sensor, is capable of shooting at 40fps, features new AF tracking modes and captures video as oversampled 6K – this camera was announced in November 2022 as a replacement for the first-generation EOS R6, offering Canon fans a more powerful full-frame mirrorless option with plenty of bells and whistles. It's an excellent option for anyone looking to upgrade from the now-aging EOS RP and EOS R or for someone wanting to get their hands on one of the best hybrid mirrorless cameras on the market today.

The sensor-based electronic shutter can rattle off continuous shooting at up to 40fps. There's even a RAW Burst Mode that can capture raw images at 30fps with a 0.5 second pre-shooting buffer, making this ideal for sport shooters.

To complement the high frame rates, Canon has improved the AF performance here. In addition to the existing body, eye, face, head, and animal recognition (now expanded to horses and zebras – yes, you read that right), the R6 II can recognize cars, motorcycles, aircraft, and trains too.

In terms of video capture, the R6 II now shoots 4K/60p using the full width of the sensor (the Mark I R6 has a 1.07x crop). It can also output 6K ProRes RAW to select Atomos external recorders.

I've been writing about drones for years – I'd say I've written the book on the subject but that'd be forgetting the other book! Not that anyone needs me to blow my own trumpet – the point is that as an enthusiast, professional, and reviewer, I know a lot about drones – and I enjoy them.

There has been a lot of movement on pricing in the UK around the DJI Neo. This drone – still incredibly giftable – remains cheaper than the Neo 2, and has most of the same features, so if you're buying for someone, there is much to be said for it. Many recipients would prefer the Neo and three batteries than the Neo 2 and one battery, I assure you.

In the USA, the Neo 2 isn't officially available yet, but that doesn't mean the discounts haven't made it.

The reason I recommend the Neo series of drones is that you can buy the drone relatively cheaply, and if it goes down well (it will) it can be upgraded later with a traditional remote control or even a floating wand controller and FPV goggles. It is also very safe because of its lightweight caged design.

If you're looking to spend AND save on a high-end drone in the USA, and need to side-step the DJI brand but want all the same features, then don't miss the Skyrover X1, which is being sold in a three-battery bundle with a charging hub

This drone basically has all the features of the DJI Mini 4 Pro – and a similar bundle for that drone with three batteries will set you back $1,500. This, however, is a brighter color, has no DJI software or branding, and costs A LOT less this Black Friday, in America at least.

(And when I say the same features, I mean it – many have commented on the similarities, but not the FAA, you'll be pleased to know!)

I was really impressed with the original HoverAir X1 drone, and I think many people might find the 8K version – the HoverAir X1 Pro Max – a bit excessive in terms of features (and cost). I absolutely love the super-safe, light, pocketable folding design of this 'follow-me' drone because it keeps the propellers in a cage and the whole drone folds away like a book and can be pocketed. Brilliant.

OK, I admit this update is a bit niche, but the saving is mighty impressive, so I think you'd be disappointed in me for not mentioning it when I saw it! Adorama – is a great place to pick up a drone during Black Friday because it respects the discounting AND it stocks premium equipment and this is a great example. It has a 1080P night vision gimbal camera for the M300 drones – pretty high-end stuff that police departments use – and the price is down by $10,000. Not too bad at all!

At the other end of the scale, I've also noticed that some of the kind of drone I always recommend that people buy at this time of year as simple gifts are showing up with good percentage discounts.

Walmart have $6 off the Sharper Image stunt drone, which has a good safe design for indoor play and the same stick arrangement as any other drone so it's a great beginning point for anyone learning (or a younger sibling eying a more expensive or more vulnerable device).

When is a DJI Avata 2 not a DJI Avata 2? When it is a DJI Neo!

There is a deal that looks too good to be true on Amazon UK, and, well, it is. Try ordering the DJI Neo with three batteries on this link and the text promises an Avata 2, but the link seems to suggest otherwise.

I tried it, and it was a Neo that came in the post. Luckily Amazon.co.uk will accept a return for me, or – interestingly – let me keep it and accept £17 for their error (and to be fair £209 isn't a bad price for the Neo, if that had been what I wanted... just saying...)

Looking for a good price on a non-DJI drone? The Potensic Atom SE is a great choice.

This is a drone I have reviewed and impressed me. It has a good build quality, with some definite nods toward the market leader, but keeps the costs down to a minimum at the best of times.

Moreover I'm a big fan of the design of the remote control which builds a solid phone holder so you can see the screen and keep the control sticks in a comfortable place. Ontop of all that, Potensic manage to throw in an extra battery with the standard bundle.

The only thing to remember: EIS means Electronic Image Stabilization. That's good, but it's not as good as a full gimbal, which is what you find in the ATOM.

Exciting to see a significant discount on a drone that offers a good mix of a decent camera, child-friendly safety features, foldable design for portability, and – if you want – no controller at all because it has the AI to follow you – BUT is being sold in a bundle with a controller with a screen so you don't need to find a phone and can fly a good long range. The deals do keep chopping and changing today, but you can read more about the DJI Flip in my review.

When is a 6K drone not a 6K drone?

So this is a really good deal, I think, but don't be fooled into thinking that it can shoot 6K video from that name. It's a 4K 30fps video – in that respect similar to the DJI Mini 4K, but the 6K is being given as a measure of the resolution of still photographs – and that isn't very impressive.

When you're buying discount drones remember that 4K is good and 30fps is fine (60fps is great), but watch out for this trick. I've seen a lot of 6K and 8K measurements given for devices that can only capture 4K video and stills at higher resolutions (the only 8K video drones I can immediately think of are the very different Hover Air X1 Pro Max and the somewhat less affordable DJI Inspire 3.)

Can you trust Rufus, the Amazon AI? It suggested to me (without me even asking) that this is what it'd tell me about the G11PRO drone – which does NOT have what we would call 'obstacle avoidance' or 'collision avoidance':

"Based on the product specifications and features, the Gleesfun G11PRO Drone includes several safety and navigation features rather than traditional obstacle avoidance sensors..."

and it goes on to list several other systems which it admits are not "traditional obstacle avoidance sensors that actively detect and avoid objects" but the system is very keen to, lets say, highlight their benefits! In other words, my advice is, if you're buying a product, perhaps an AI run by the retailer might be a little more 'positive' than you need.

One of the great DJI accessory deals is the company's Power Stations, which – until December 1 – are starting at just $279 instead of $499.

Not a lot more to be said about that, except check out the link – you can buy from DJI direct and some of the bundles – but not the basic Power Station 500 – are out of stock already. I've tested the Power Station 1000 and I found it a great way to keep my drones going a lot longer than usual out in the field (and my MacBook Pro!)

I mentioned the 8K-capable HOVERAir X1 PROMAX in a recent update, and it's worth noting that if you do fancy a very capable, but also very pocketable drone, then there are bundles for the Pro version of that "follow me" drone that start around the $600 mark, but the big bundles are impressively discounted at Amazon – check it:

Don't forget great Christmas and holiday presents can be stocking fillers and the like – the Snaptain SP350 is just $35 even though it includes three batteries (OK, small ones – it is for indoor play) and the controller.

This will be all anyone needs to get used to the basics of controls and, as I've said many times before (and it never gets any less true), learning the basics on a simple drone with not many automatic tricks (like GPS) means you'll be all the better a pilot when it comes to a more expensive camera drone! (Of course they're good toys too...)

All the deals say they are 'Cyber Monday Deals' now - not Black Friday deals. So one small taste of my experience that I can give you is that Cyber Monday deals can get very good on wholly digital products (things like electronic subscriptions) where there is no significant physical cost to the retailer, but most of the prices that were good enough for Black Friday might carry on through the weekend if the stocks last but I wouldn't be holding out for longer on physical products if I saw a really good deal. That's just my thoughts, of course, and the rules change every year (this year started even earlier, for example), but that's my experience for what it is worth.

Rest assured, I'll definitely mention it if I see something that breaks this rule!

Take a chance on me...?

OK, so I've not reviewed this drone and, honestly, without having done so and not knowing the brand it woudln't be my first choice – but – with two batteries of about 22 minutes each, a 4K camera (promised) on a mechanical gimbal (admittedly only 2-axis) and GPS, this definitely seems worth trying out if you're able to take full advantage of the 63% price cut!

At full price this is not a patch on the DJI Mini 4K – which is also discounted to as little as $239 – and with one 31-minute battery would still be my first choice of the two – but if cost is your key criterion then I should at least draw your attention to this possibility. (The nice thing about Amazon, after all, is that you can always return it).

Packing pro tech into tinier packages tends to come at a higher price point – and compact cameras are a key example. While there are a handful of cheap consumer point-and-shoots, the compacts that pack pro-level sensors come at prices that rival and even exceed the cost of interchangeable lens cameras.

I understand the appeal of compact cameras – I took a waterproof compact camera on vacation earlier this year, and leaving my mirrorless behind felt liberating. But I’m also a very frugal photographer, and I can’t seem to bring myself to spend the $1,799 / £1,599 for the Fujifilm X100VI when I could mimic one by spending a few hundred on a pancake lens for my current mirrorless instead.

If you want a camera that can fit in your pocket, then you want a compact camera – and some of them are even on sale for Black Friday. But if you’re willing to compromise on a travel-friendly camera that may not slip into a pocket but doesn’t add a lot of weight to a bag, a mirrorless camera with a compact lens could save you some cash. As a frugal photographer – and a camera reviewer – these are my picks for compact camera alternatives. And, they all cost less than the X100VI right now, even bundled with a lens.

Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV packs the retro look into a mirrorless camera that’s highly portable, but still includes must-haves like a viewfinder and plenty of controls. Pick it up if you want an affordable, portable retro camera with excellent stabilization. Avoid if you need something with weather-sealing or want a high-resolution sensor.

Fujifilm X-T50

The mirrorless camera that’s closest to the trendy compact Fujifilm X100VI is the Fujifilm X-E5, but the X-E5 has a similar price point as the X100VI. The Fujifilm X-T50 is more of a happy medium – it still has Fujifilm’s latest 40MP sensor and stabilization, but isn’t quite so pricey. Avoid it if you need weather-sealing, dual memory card slots, or a long battery life.

Nikon Z fc

The Nikon Z fc mixes the brand’s powerful yet affordable entry-level imaging with a relatively compact retro-styled body. The Nikon Z fc is a really lovely camera with equally lovely images. On the flipside, though, the mirrorless camera’s small size is due in part to lacking any sort of real grip, and like other budget options, there’s no weather-sealing.

Panasonic Lumix S9

Full frame tends to be quite pricey, but the Panasonic Lumix S9 is a mirrorless that brings full-frame to a budget, travel-friendly body. I was impressed with the camera’s images and in-camera LUTs, though I wasn’t in love with the camera’s lack of a viewfinder and grip.

Sony A6700

As Sony’s most advanced APS-C mirrorless, the A6700 often isn’t much cheaper than trendy compact cameras, but Black Friday deals change that. The Sony A6700 has excellent autofocus, which is the reason I would pick it over the cheaper A6400. But, it also has some features that other cheap compact mirrorless options don’t, including a viewfinder and even some weather seals. I wish it had an autofocus joystick, though.

Nikon Z30

Nikon doesn’t make point-and-shoot cameras anymore, but the Z30 is the next best thing. The Nikon Z30 has some of the some cons of most budget cameras at this price point, including no viewfinder or stabilization. But the Z30 doesn’t feel cheap, has light weather seals, didn’t neglect a grip, and is incredibly tiny.

Canon EOS R8

The Canon EOS R8 isn’t exactly tiny, but it’s fairly compact considering the fact that it still has a viewfinder, a comfortable grip, a full-frame sensor, and some light weather seals. Plus, the excellent autofocus and 40 fps electronic shutter make it tempting for action on a budget. There’s no autofocus joystick, no stabilization, and only a single card slot, however.

A £50 discount on the Fujifilm X-E5 doesn’t sound dramatic at first, but given how rarely Fuji bodies get meaningful price cuts, it’s enough to make you stop and ask the real question: is this the smarter buy over the hugely popular Fujifilm X100VI? For many photographers, the answer might be yes.

The X100VI is the camera everyone wants; it's a cult classic, a design icon, and a street/travel photographer’s dream. But it’s also a camera that comes with one potentially huge creative limitation: you’re locked into its fixed 23mm f/2 lens. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a stunning lens, but the moment you want more reach, more width, or more subject separation, the X100VI becomes restrictive.

And this is exactly where the X-E5 begins to shine. With access to the full Fujifilm X-mount ecosystem, the X-E5 becomes whatever you want it to be. Pair it with a compact 23mm pancake lens for an X100VI-like experience, swap to a fast 56mm f/1.2 for portraits, or pack a super zoom for travel. You’re buying into a system rather than a camera.

Internally, there isn’t much to separate the two. The X-E5 uses the same excellent 40MP X-Trans 5 sensor as the X100VI, meaning you’re not giving up image quality to save money; both cameras have in-body image stabilization and share the same video specs.

The two models only diverge when it comes to looks and handling, despite the two cameras sharing the same rangefinder-style DNA.

The X100VI has a more premium charm; its hybrid OVF/EVF is a huge part of the experience, and it just has an elevated level of craftsmanship. The X-E5, by contrast, is lighter and feels a little less luxurious, with a straightforward EVF that doesn’t look quite as cool.

The X100VI might always be the camera people lust after, but the X-E5 is the camera many people actually need. If you want Fuji colours and film simulations but with the freedom to build a kit for different shooting scenarios, the X-E5 might well be the smarter buy.

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 has become a bit of classic in the five years since it launched - and despite its age in camera terms, it is still one of the best beginner cameras that you can buy. And particularly so, when there are some decent Black Friday deals on the Micro Four Thirds mirrorless model - whether you choose the retro-looking chrome version, or the more refined all-black finish.

First up, it’s worth mentioning just how small this little camera really is. It’s built around a 20MP Micro Four Thirds sensor, which provides a 2x crop factor. As such, MFT systems tend to feature smaller camera bodies and lenses than their APS-C and full-frame counterparts. The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV is no exception; the body is 383g and the lens is 91g. To put that into perspective, combined it’s a lighter setup than the ridiculously-trendy Fujifilm X100VI.

As you’d expect from a camera within this price range, you get 4K 30p video – but what I do love about the E-M10 Mark IV is its in-body image stabilization, compensating for up to 4.5 stops. The camera also features Live Guide and Scene Modes that will give beginners a helping hand.

Otherwise it’s fairly standard fare, but when you consider that you’re getting a great-looking, compact, capable stills camera and kit lens from a reputable brand, for under $700, the OM-D E-M10 Mark IV is an attractive prospect. I think it’s a fantastic first, everyday, street or travel camera and would gladly use one on my daily commute.

If there’s one deal this Black Friday that is really tempting me, it’s the Fujifilm X-Half being £150 off. I review cameras all year, and most of them blur together after a while, but the X-Half is one of those rare models that stood out as being genuinely fun – the kind of camera you’d happily give as a Christmas gift to someone who’s always wanted to take better photos but doesn’t want the pressure of a “serious” camera.

The X-Half sits in a sweet spot between smartphone simplicity and Fujifilm’s more advanced interchangeable-lens cameras. You get a playful “half frame” vertical format that’s great for social media, and with Fujifilm’s incredible film recipes and effects, you get an instantly shareable film-style aesthetic that requires no editing.

The X-Half also feels approachable right out of the box. The lightweight body is really well designed, with enough controls that you can dig into being a little creative, but that never feels intimidating. It’s the sort of camera that encourages you to take more photos, and exactly the kind of experience most beginners and casual shooters will actually enjoy.

At £550, it's still a bit of a splurge, but I think this is the perfect camera to get under the tree for a partner, family member, or very lucky friend who loves phone photography and wants a step up. And frankly, even as someone who uses top-end gear daily, I’m tempted to get one myself just for the fun of having something small and stylish to shoot with over the holidays.

Trying 360 photography is a lot easier than you think. In fact its easier than ordinary photography because you don't even need to think where you're pointing the camera.

For those of you asking where the fun in that is, hold on – there is a lot more creativity available – you just need to be open to thinking in a slightly different way. You'll be fine. I believe in you! But a lot of people are put off by the idea of having to invest in a new piece of camera equipment and, right now, that is much of a worry than ever with some spectacular deals this Black Friday.

The thing is, it has been a very busy few months in the 360 camera world, with three companies all releasing major products within a very short space of time. They are the DJI Osmo 360, the GoPro Max 2, and the Insta360 X4 Air.

The latter is especially interesting for those looking to keep costs down because it's the first lower-price version of a previous model – at least in name; there was an X4 (not Air) that was slightly bigger and lacked some of the same features.

What's really interesting though, is that even though this camera has just come out, Insta360 has bowed to the pressure of the season and made a massive price cut – at least for direct sales.

It's also possible to pick up great prices on the company's other 360 cameras through Amazon or other retailers. The Insta360 X4 (without 'Air' at the end) was the first mainstream consumer 360 camera with 8K resolution, and this feature is more significant than any other upgrade that others have offered since. Because it's now effectively an older model – with the X5 or the X4 Air as the newer ones – it can be found for some pretty interesting prices despire being well equipped.

Insta360 has been established in the field for a few years now, and has also built a good range of software. Software is important because it allows you to 'point the camera' after the fact. If, for example, you want to export your video in a traditional format

But they are not the only company that has done so. GoPro has spent some years selling a 360 camera called the Max, and in the last year announced a minor update, commonly called the 2025 edition, and finally – just a few weeks ago – an all-new Max 2 which is also 8K. There isn't a lot of discounting to be found yet, as you might expect, for a brand new top-of-the-line product, but I've still seen $50 off at Amazon:

The other big name in the action camera space, DJI, also took 2025 to throw its hat into the 360 camera ring with its own all-new camera, the Osmo 360, which has also been discounted impressively for a few months.

DJI's own software isn't quite as mature, but works on phones and on Mac and PC and is able to identify and track subjects so it covers all the key bases, while the camera features impressive image sensors that achieve some of the highest image resolutions.

So, in essence, what I'm saying is that I'm the expert here and I love this tech but there has never been a better time to get in at the top end – with the kind of resolution that you won't need to replace with a new model anytime soon.

Sure, 64GB might not seem like much in an era of 8K video and high-resolution sensors, but for everyday photography, it’s plenty - and at this price, they’re practically impossible to resist.

It’s become something of a ritual for me now. I ignore memory cards for most of the year and wait until Black Friday - or the days leading up to it - when prices start to tumble, and full-price suddenly looks ridiculous. SanDisk’s 64GB Ultra cards often drop into impulse-buy territory, and if you need more room, the 128GB and 256GB versions usually follow suit at prices that feel like a steal.

The real trick is having spares. I never head out without at least two or three extras in my bag. Cards fill up, fail, or simply vanish, and having backups means you’re never caught short - no deleting files on the fly or missing a shot while swapping cards. And when you’ve picked them up for less than the cost of a pub lunch, there’s no reason not to stock up.

There's a pretty great Black Friday camera deal on one of my favorite lenses right now: the OM System M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 R has been reduced to just £159, a huge £90 saving.

This Micro Four Thirds lens is smaller than a soda can when unzoomed, as you can see in the image below, meaning there's always room in my camera bag to squeeze it in. That means I have an equivalent 80-300mm zoom with me wherever I go – and it's enabled me to get some great spontaneous shots!

After all, you don't want to take a 300mm zoom lens everywhere with you just in case there might be a bird or some wildlife to photograph. But this lens means you're always prepared for that elusive eagle that appears on your hike, or the air show you didn't know was happening while on vacation.

One of the best value lenses out there, I bought the M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 R (review) on a whim because I wanted a long lens on a wildlife-friendly holiday – but it's consistently been one that I go back to and keep getting great results with!

(This is the newer, OM System-branded version of the 40-150mm R – but aside from the name on the side, it is identical to the older Olympus-badged model.)

It's not a fast lens, and it doesn't deliver pro lens levels of detail, but the sharpness is very good across the whole focal range – and again, it's shorter than a soda can and just over half the weight!

This is one of the best Olympus / OM System lenses and one of the best Micro Four Thirds lenses on the market. And of course, it's one of the best budget telephoto lenses!

I just bought an iPad for 74 quid from Amazon Renewed – and it's honestly one of the best purchases I've made.

I had a quandry. I needed an iPad for a few photography-related things – firstly, I wanted something with a decent screen size to act as my digital portfolio rather than asking people to swipe a tiny phone screen. I also needed a tablet to work with my autocue software, for some content creation jobs I do.

However, these are pretty basic bitch requirements for an iPad – there's no way they justify spending 600 quid on a brand new model. (And yes, I needed an iPad rather than a cheap tablet because I'm trapped in Ye Olde Apple Ecosystem.)

So I took the plunge and bought a refurbished iPad from Amazon – because £74 was much more appropriate for my needs!

Yes, it's a basic bitch model – an iPad Air 2 with a mere 16GB of storage and it's WiFi only. But again, all I want it to do is display my photos and scroll some text; I've got my phone and my laptop for everything else.

I'm always a little apprehensive about buying refurbished products, especially electronics. But Amazon Refurbished gear has a generous returns period and, if worse came to worse, losing £74 wouldn't be the end of the world.

It turns out I worried for nothing. It came in the usual Amazon packaging, carefully wrapped, perfectly clean and in great condition. Being completely factory reset, I obviously had the "new car smell" experience of the Apple welcome and setting everything up from scratch.

The only downside is that, unlike when you're buying from companies like MPB.com, you don't see photos of the actual item you're buying. However, Amazon has a grading system to give you a decent idea of the condition of your product – and Amazon returns are easy, so you can always send it right back if you're not happy.

So, if you're in a similar boat and you want a cheap iPad for basic functions – or maybe you want a burner iPad for travelling or for the kids to use – I only have good things to say about getting one from Amazon Renewed.

When a lens is so cheap that you're going to buy it again, even though you already own one, you know it's a great deal!

As you're undoubtedly aware, the Amazon Ring is a doorbell that houses a camera, speaker, and microphone, and its primary purpose is to enable you to see who is at the door before you answer it. Not only does it give you a heads-up of who is calling by streaming video to your phone or Alexa device, but it allows you to have a conversation with the caller, which is invaluable if you happen to be on the toilet "I'll be there in a minute!", or you wish to avoid the door-to-door salesperson or Jehovah's Witness "Sorry, I'm not in right now!", or, as you don't even need to be in the house to answer, for directing couriers where to leave the parcel.

That may be a good enough reason on its own to invest in a Ring Doorbell, particularly as during the Black Friday sales, it's less than half price, dropping from £99.99 to just £39.99, but I'm going to give you a better one (it's directly below my roundup of the best Ring doorbell deals, but you can skip to the yarn by scrolling to the bottom). It hinges on the fact that not only do you not need to be in the house to answer the caller, or even in the same country, but every member of the household can be alerted when someone rings the doorbell.

Anyway, earlier this year, my 19-year-old son went traveling. It's something of a rite of passage for the kids in my neighborhood as they make their way to adulthood. Taking a gap year after finishing college, he'd worked hard in local restaurants to get enough cash together for a trip through Southeast Asia, to take some time to figure out what he was going to do with the rest of his life. Off he set to Bangkok with a bunch of his mates, and I was keen to hear about his adventures. But being a typical teen, his updates were brief, to say the least.

"How are you finding Thailand? I can't wait to hear what you've been up to!" I'd message. "Yeah, good," would come the WhatsApp response half a day later.

And so it went in the weeks that followed. "What are you doing today?" I'd ask. "In Cambodia" would be the two-word reply. "Oh wow! Have you been to the Angkor Wat temples? I'd love to see them, they're a photographer's dream!" I'd persevere. "Yeah, it's good," was as good as I was going to get.

"Dad!" the doorbell exclaimed. I was confused. My son went on to explain that he was in Vietnam and had met up with my friend's daughter when the Ring alert was triggered on her phone. The two are around the same age and have known each other since they were in nappies, and she was also on a gap year and on her own Asian adventure.

As the Black Friday Nikon camera deals ramp up, this might be my favorite offer yet! I consider the Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S to be the multi-tool of Nikon Z lenses and an optic that sits near the top of many a Nikon photographer’s wishlist. At £1682.26 via Amazon UK, I can’t find it cheaper (at the time of writing). I have seen it for less this year, but not much less. If I didn’t already have this lens in my arsenal, I’d be more than happy to pay this price. Anything below £1,700 is a fantastic deal. After all, this is a pro-grade lens that retails for £2,499.

So what’s so special about the Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S? For starters, it’s a ‘holy trinity’ lens, meaning it’s one third of the perfect pro setup: a trio of f/2.8 zooms comprising 14-24mm, 24-70mm, and 70-200mm. It’s also an S-Line lens, which is Nikon’s pro-grade series. This means it features a plethora of premium appointments, including some of the ‘Big N’s’ most advanced optics and coatings, extensive weather sealing, an OLED information display, customizable L-fn buttons, Vibration Reduction (OIS), and a silent control ring.

Personally, I’m a fan of the internal zoom. This does mean it takes up more space in your kit bag, but in my opinion, this elevates the premium factor somewhat. But what I love most about this lens is its image quality. This is the kind of lens that excels when paired with a high-resolution camera like the Nikon Z9, Nikon Z8, and Nikon Z7 II. It’s going to deliver a sharp, highly detailed image, and bring the best out of that big full-frame sensor.

The supreme image quality is down to the advanced optical construction: 21 elements in 18 groups, comprising six extra-low dispersion elements, two aspherical elements, one fluorite element, one short-wavelength refractive element, as well as Nikon’s Nano Crystal and ARNEO coats, and a fluorine-coated front lens element.

Ultimately, a 70-200mm telephoto zoom is a mainstay in many photographers’ kit bag. Like the 24-70mm, it’s a lens that can be applied to a huge variety of genres and indeed subjects. If you’re a Nikon photographer with a mirrorless camera, this is hands-down the best 70-200mm optic on the market. And with £800 off the RRP, you’re getting it for a great price.

If you didn't get the small but beautifully formed Nikon Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR when you bought your DX-sensor Z-series Nikon mirrorless, then (A) what on earth were you thinking? and (B) you can right that wrong immediately with this cracker of an Amazon deal, which knocks a tidy £80 (£79.70 if you're going to be pedantic) off the usual £329 asking price. Hands up, it's not the cheapest I've ever seen this lens, but it's pretty close, and it might just be the best price I've seen the Silver Edition going for, which usually goes at a premium compared to the standard black version. It's the ideal match for the retro-themed Nikon Z fc.

Incredibly small and light, the Nikon Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR weighs just 135 grams, has a retractable design, and features a variable maximum aperture of f/3.5-6.3. Amazingly, for such a teeny lens, it has Nikon’s Vibration Reduction (VR) system, providing up to 4.5 stops of stabilization for both stills and video.

Despite its low cost, it delivers excellent performance for a kit zoom. Autofocus is fast and silent, it offers strong centre sharpness across the zoom range, and can focus as close as 0.2m at the wide end, making it versatile for close-up shots. All in all, it's a compact and lightweight solution for everyday and travel photography.

Both retro cameras and compact cameras are trending – which makes finding a retro compact camera at a reasonable price exceedingly difficult to do. I’m often disappointed when I test out budget cameras, especially those under $100 / £100, but there’s a compact camera that I keep coming back to at this rare price point: The Camp Snap.

The Camp Snap

Cheap cameras aren’t for pixel peepers, and the original Camp Snap is no exception, but what the Camp Snap lacks in specs, it makes up for in nostalgic charm. The original Camp Snap feels like a disposable film camera, except that it’s an 8MP digital camera. The screen-free design is excellent for retro-loving adults, teens jumping on the disposable camera trend, and even parents looking for a game-free camera for kids.

While I keep coming back to the Camp Snap, there are a few things that I don’t like – you can’t change out the color profile without plugging into a computer, and there’s a noticeable delay between pressing the shutter and when the photo is actually taken. But both issues are being remedied with the new Camp Snap CS-Pro.

I just got in my Camp Snap CS-Pro sample to test, so I haven’t put the camera through all the paces yet. But it’s already fixing my biggest complaints with the original Camp Snap without a giant price jump. Beyond fixing the shutter lag and adding a dial to choose the film simulation, the CS-Pro is higher resolution (though still not for pixel peepers) and has a gorgeous classic look to it.

Neither the original Camp Snap nor the Camp Snap CS-Pro shoots video – but for retro video, there’s the Camp Snap CS-8. This is a digital dupe of a Super 8 camera, and I’m obsessed with the retro filter that adds dust and scratches. Like any cheap camcorder, there are some caveats – my main one being that the digital zoom is rather terrible. But, there are relatively few options for a retro camcorder with a price this low.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday may be behind us, but a few standout camcorder deals are still hanging on – and they’re well worth a look. While there were dozens of great camera offers during the sales, camcorder discounts were surprisingly scarce this year.

It's only been a couple of months since Nikon surprised everyone – us included – by launching an updated version of its fast pro 24-70mm f/2.8 'Trinity' standard zoom, and now it's just had its first major price drop, just in time for Black Friday, pushing its price below the £2,000 barrier for the first time. It's one of the best Black Friday camera deals we've seen so far!

The Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II is the first fast standard zoom to boast a fully internal zoom mechanism from any manufacturer, meaning that the lens's physical length remains fixed during zooming, which is particularly beneficial for gimbal use. While it's slightly longer than its predecessor, the Mark II is substantially lighter, weighing a modest 675g, making it easier to handle on compact Z-series bodies.

High-tech coatings (ARNEO, Meso-amorphous, and Super Integrated) combat ghosting and flare, and the lens is extensively weather-sealed. A notable new feature is the 'Click on/off' switch for the aperture control ring, allowing for easy switching between fixed stops for stills and stepless adjustment for video, with virtually no focus breathing. It also includes dual customizable Function buttons.

While some dog owners worry mercilessly about their delicate little fur babies home alone, I worry about my poor little home, at the mercy of my mischievous little imp of a border collie, Fenwick. Thankfully, for the discerning dog owner (or homeowner), you can keep tabs on what’s going down, getting chewed, or getting snaffled with the Furbo 360° Dog Camera and save a whopping 84% off the RRP in the process. The iconic Ray-Ban brand was behind the glasses seen on Arnie in the Terminator movies, but the style we most know today is probably not that look which to me, as a kid (er, growing boy) I thought heralded the end of humanity. Not, it is the Meta Wayfarer Glasses, which are also black and shiny, and on discount for Black fFriday! Plus, they bring the tech with them, so no one has to be a Terminator at all!

These glasses are one of the very few technologies that I didn't have to tell my friends outside the tech world about – they came to me about them. When Google Glass came out, no one was interested, even though there was coverage in the national media. That was branded "geeky" by my friends.

This, however, is a tech device with a brand they understand and not too much distraction. They understood straight away and were enthusiastic about them to me before I had even acknowledged that Ray-Bans cost a bit more than your average supermarket sunglasses. Now I have a pair and couldn't be happier.

(Embarrassing story, but true: I used to think you could get away with relying on your eyes to narrow and act as an aperture to keep excess light out – this does not work on Mediterranean islands, especially if it's sandy and windy).

Plus, there is a lot of choice when it comes to the shade of glass (if you follow the links to the retailers anyway), and that does matter when you're choosing glasses.

Because, if we're honest, these are not just in a gift-giving price category now – these are very much in the gift-to-self category! If a job is worth doing, do it right.

To be honest, I couldn't believe the price on this wireless lavalier microphone kit when I first saw it. At £14, this Joby Wavo Air is a brilliant way of upgrading your video shooting set-up – whether you just shoot with your phone, or if you have a serious vlogging kit.

Every pro knows, is that poor quality audio is a no-no – and that you just can't improve the sound on your video simply using your device's built-in microphone.

This wireless tie-clip microphone kit from Joby cost over £200 when it was first launched... and is now one of our budget choices for the best lavalier mic. But at £14 this is now one of those deals that anyone and everyone should be considering for themselves - or as a low-cost gift.

The Wavo Air comes with two 2.4GHz transmitters and two clip microphones, allowing you record up close to two different sound sources. That's great for interviews - or for, say,, capturing the wedding vows of the bride and groom. The receiver, meanwhile, comes supplied with leads to plug into the audio socket of your camera or phone.

I've been covering 360 cameras for years now, and I won't tell you the GoPro MAX360 (2025) is the latest and greatest because we all know the MAX2 just came out. That, I'm sure, is why this is so cheap. But that doesn't mean this isn't a decent working 360 camera – plus you get access to GoPro's software and the 2025 version was updated so (while it is mostly the older model) it charges & connects with USB-C so it should work for years to come!

A 360-degree camera like the MAX360 and its sibling the Max 2 pick up video from all around the device, so a lot of the technology on offer is available in the app which accompanies it.

For the 2025 release of the MAX360, as well as updating the connectivity to USB-C on its 360-degree camera, the company also improved the app, Quik, to add features like automatic subject tracking. That means that you just need to keep the camera in roughly the right place and tap on a subject later and the app will keep them in frame if you want to export your video – in any shape (horizontal, vertical).

GoPro, of course, can extend this further with cloud-based services if you choose, but there are plenty of cool effects available, like Spin, Flip, Roll, Wobble, Tiny Planet, and you can plot your own exports precisely using keyframes if you choose.

The MAX can be controlled remotely from your phone, and images and creations can be shared straight from there or edited and shared from there. It can also live stream at 1080P. There is a lot of potential here for vloggers!

The camera has an array of six microphones and is able to either detect spatial sound or use the extra data to minimise wind noise. Despite this, the whole camera is is also waterproof to 5m (around 15ft).

Would I buy this camera, even at this price? Sure, as a gift! I don't think people appreciate how much fun a 360-camera is, or how useful it is.

That said, I also think as soon as you get one, you want a better one, so I do tend to point people to the guide to the best 360 cameras.

Compact cameras feel liberating after hauling around hefty interchangeable lens cameras – but I can’t seem to bring myself to spend a small fortune on a high-end compact camera when I own a perfectly good mirrorless.

That’s where pancake lenses come in – these tiny lenses make an interchangeable lens camera feel far more compact. And thanks to the Black Friday camera deals, a pancake to DIY your own “compact camera” from a mirrorless is now under $80 / £80 / CA$116.

The Viltrox AF 28mm f/4.5 FE is a lightweight lens that certainly fits the “pancake” moniker at just 0.59 inches / 15mm thick. Originally available for the Sony FE Mount, the lens now comes in mounts for Fujifilm X and Nikon Z as well.

There are, naturally, some sacrifices required to make a lens that small, starting with the fixed f/4.5 aperture. There’s no manual focus ring, hood, or filter thread either.

But, unlike some tiny third-party pancakes, this lens still has autofocus. Sharpness is solid at the center, though there’s some softness and colored fringing to the edges. A pancake with a fixed f/4.5 aperture isn’t for everyone, but this VIltrox isn’t the only tiny lens discounted ahead of the holidays.

The TTArtisan AF 27mm f/2.8 – though an APS-C and not a full-frame lens like the Viltrox – also has a steep discount for Black Friday. If you shoot with a Fujifilm X, Sony E or Nikon Z mount in the APS-C format, the TTArtisan AF 27mm f/2.8 offers a wider aperture, albeit in a larger size and at a higher price.

The TTArtisan AF 27mm f/2.8 has solid sharpness for a budget lens, and it still has an aperture ring. There’s some vignetting to contend with, however, and there’s no weather sealing. But, it comes in at a far lower price point than many native pancake lenses.

Trying the new XGODY projector – which is available for surprisingly little money on either side of the Atlantic this Black Friday – has been a bit of a surprise for me. A price cut of 15% on an already very cheap device has put it at just over $100 and just under £100, yet its features do genuinely seem to stack up against some devices costing more than ten times that.

Xgody might not be a well-known name in the projector space, but the entire industry has been turned on its head by unknown brands in the last couple of years and some have performed very well in my reviews.

The N6 Pro has kept the features at a level which would have been striking only a few years ago, and they are still more than good enough for most occasions.

While many projectors now use Android TV, this uses WhaleOS, but in my quick test I was able to install a Netflix and a Prime Video app (and others seem available) to stream video. The built-in speakers are good enough, too.

700 ANSI Lumens of 700 is provided. That's the light measure of a projector, and, basically, this is more than good enough for evenings. Viewing at about 2m / 6ft, I was able to create a very impressive image area equivalent to about a 75-inch TV which was more than bright enough to view, even in a room with daylight.

WhaleOS allows for apps (there is, apparently, 32GB of storage on board) and has numerous settings. I was initially disappointed by the image quality in the darker areas, but by turning on a 'Dynamic' mode the video quality got better overall too.

Other features I'd expect on pricier devices are all included too – a Bluetooth remote that works without needing to be pointed at the device and a built-in tiltable support. This is backed up with a motion sensor and auto keystone correction so you just move the projector to the right spot for you, tilt it so the light is projected where you want, and it then automatically adjusts the image out to something perfectly squared-off.

All this happens well within the kind of speeds I'd expect for something much more expensive, so – if you don't have a projector – this is definitely a very interesting way to buy something you might never have expected to own. It's light and easy to carry. Try it anywhere (or gift a home cinema to anyone!)

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are supposed to be single-day shopping events – but Fujifilm is keeping some Black-Friday-level pricing going through January 14.

With trends making some Fujifilm gear hard to find in stock, the discounts are surprisingly decent, though they exclude the trendiest models like the Fujifilm X100VI.

According to Fujifilm's UK webstore, the deals on X Series and GFX last through January 14, 2026. Instax deals don't list an end date.

Some deals, like £200 off the Fujifilm X Half, were too good to last and have now expired. Others aren't quite as steep as on Black Friday, but many of the discounts on X series and GFX series are expected to last into the New Year.

Sale prices on lenses seem to have ended, but Fujifilm's £85 cashback offer on X series lenses is still good through January 14.

As is the norm, the pricier the list price, the bigger the discounts, as pricier telephoto lenses and medium format gear see the steepest drops, including up to £500 cashback on medium format gear.
