Sigma brings three of its f/1.4 prime lenses over from the Sony E-mount to bolster the lens choice for Canon EF-M owners

Just weeks after announcing it had finished making lenses for the Pentax DSLR mount, Sigma has revealed three new lenses for Canon’s mirrorless EF-M system. This isn’t Canon’s full frame EOS R system, but its consumer level APS-C cameras, recently given a boost by the arrival of the Canon EOS M6 Mark II.
The new lenses will form part of Sigma’s ‘Contemporary’ line and include the 16mm F1.4 DC DN, 30mm F1.4 DC DN and 56mm F1.4 DC DN. All three are fast f/1.4 prime lenses which might tempt existing Canon EF-M camera owners or help newcomers decide which is the best Canon camera to invest in.
We have actually seen all three lenses before in the Sony E mount, but although they are not new lenses exactly, they will be a welcome boost to Canon’s EOS M range, which is short on premium quality, fast prime lenses and could use a few lenses like these to raise its status. All three have AF algorithms optimized for the EF-M focus drive systems, and are compatible both with Canon’s Servo AF and in-camera lens aberration correction.
Although the three lenses are part of Sigma’s mainstream Contemporary line, the company says their optical quality is close to its premium ‘Art’ line, and all three lenses are designed to give great looking bokeh.

Sigma has not given a date when these lenses will go on sale, but says it will “gradually introduce” them. Prices for the existing Sony fit versions are $339/£399 for the 16mm, $339/£329 for the 30mm and $429/£399 for the 56mm f/1.4 lens.
