Who doesn't love wireless charging? It's a super-convenient way to power up your Apple kit without the hassle of cables. However, one of the biggest drawbacks of wireless is the heat generated, which can slow down charging speeds and potentially damage your battery over time.

Designed solely for Apple users, this charging station caters to those who own an iPhone, AirPods, and an Apple Watch, providing a convenient way to charge all three devices simultaneously. But how well does it actually work in practice? Read on to find out.

The ESR 3-in-1 MagSafe Charger with CryoBoost comes as one complete unit, so there's no setup needed, other than connecting the USB lead and plug to connect it to a power supply. Its combination of aluminum alloy construction and white plastic makes it solid and sturdy, and it feels like a premium product. 

While this isn't an official Apple product, its sleek, minimalist design means it blends seamlessly with your Apple kit and doesn't look out of place at all. It also feels sturdy and non-wobbly in use.

The main charging area, which works with iPhones series 12-15, features a cooling fan that lowers the temperature of the charger as well as your phone. There are cooling vents (around the back) and a status light that indicates when your device is charging or fully charged. 

Below, there's an AirPods charging area, which is simply a recessed rectangle, that also features magnetic alignment. Finally, while the charging station doesn't include an Apple Watch charging cable, it does provide a dedicated mount for your Apple Watch charger. 

Overall, the ESR 3-in-1 MagSafe Charger with CryoBoost offers a well-built and user-friendly design, with a focus on both functionality and aesthetics.

ESR Cryoboost charger: Performance

The standout feature of this charger is its CryoBoost technology. By incorporating a fan and heat-dissipating components, the charging station actively cools your devices during wireless charging, allowing for faster and more efficient charge times. But does this actually make a difference?

Quite simply, yes. In my real-world tests, the CryoBoost technology lived up to its promise. My iPhone 13 charged noticeably faster compared to other wireless chargers, going from 0 to 50 percent in just 39 minutes on one occasion. This is faster than I've ever seen an iPhone power up on a MagSafe wireless charger. And my phone remained consistently cool to the touch throughout the charging process. 

This not only ensures a safer charging experience but also helps to prolong the lifespan of your device's battery. So really, it's not just about saving you time charging your phone. It's also about protecting the value of your $1K+ investment in it. It's a similar principle to putting premium gas into your car to protect your engine, except, unlike that example, you only pay extra once, not every time you top up. 

More fundamentally, the MagSafe connectivity worked flawlessly, providing a strong and secure hold on my iPhone, and the adjustable viewing angle allowed me to comfortably watch videos, take video calls, or simply check notifications while my device was charging.

The AirPods and Apple Watch charging areas also performed well, providing a convenient way to top up all my devices simultaneously. The 25W of power it provides means that it can apportion 15W to fast-charge your iPhone while still having 10W left over for your other Apple bits and pieces.

If you have lots of Apple devices to charge, this 3-in-1 device is an absolute slam dunk. And even if you only have an iPhone to charge, (assuming it's between a 12 and 15) we'd still recommend it, as the Cryoboost tech means you'll get faster and safer charging while keeping your phone cool and protecting its battery over time. Even better, it's cheaper than rivals; much cheaper, in fact.

The adjustable viewing angle and premium build quality further enhance the overall experience. With a sleek, premium design it doubles as an iPhone stand, allowing you to use it both vertically and horizontally while charging it magnetically. And the price is reasonable too. So unless you are militant about buying only Apple-made or officially Apple-approved kit, we can't really think of any reason not to buy this.

If you spend a lot of time driving and have an iPhone, then you'll want a charger in your car. That way, you'll never run out of the juice you need for navigation, music streaming, and hands-free calling while you're on the road. 

And if your iPhone is MagSafe compatible (which applies to all models from the 12 series upwards), you'll be tempted by the idea of a magnetic charger. Because quite frankly, it means you can just get in the car, pop your phone onto a magnet, and drive. Which is a lot more convenient than messing about with a bunch of wires. 

That said, if you've recently shelled out a lot of cash on your phone and various other accessories, your bank account may be feeling the pinch right now. And so the high price of the Apple-approved Belkin Boostcharge Car Charger may be just beyond your reach. In which case, you'll be pleased to hear ESR Qi2 15W MagSafe Car Mount Charger is more than half the price.

That's not surprising: ESR has a strong reputation in making chargers that are generally cheaper than those from major brands like Apple or Samsung. But is this a great way to save money, or are you cutting off your nose to spite your face? I spent time with the ESR Qi2 15W MagSafe Car Mount Charger to find out.

The ESR Qi2 15W MagSafe Car Mount Charger is widely available through both ESR's Amazon store and official website, catering to users worldwide. At the time of writing, it's $29.99 on Amazon, making it much more affordable than the Apple-approved Belkin Boostcharge Car Charger, which is $89.99 on Amazon.

The ESR Qi2 15W MagSafe Car Mount Charger is small but perfectly formed with a sleek and modern design. It comes with two alternative ways of attaching it to the dashboard.

The first is a three-point mount with a support arm, which clips onto your air vent. The second is a dashboard anchor which uses a high-quality adhesive that means you can stick it pretty much anywhere you like.

Because this was for a review, I didn't necessarily want to attach this charger to my car forever, so I went for the clip, which I found easy to attach, remove and reattach. This would also be the best option if, say, you often switch between a personal car and a company car, or sometimes use your partner's.

Despite its low price, this product feels very well-made and sturdy. This helped to calm my nerves: after all, no one wants their expensive iPhone falling off the dash the moment their car hits a bump in the road. 

The strong magnets in this charger meant that attaching and removing my iPhone was pretty seamless; it snapped into place naturally and without any messing around. I also appreciated the fact you could angle your phone in both portrait and landscape modes, depending on what you or your passenger are using it for. 

The charger comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable as well as a small USB-A to USC-C adapter. On the downside, if your car doesn't have either a USB-A or USB-C port, you'll need an adapter to connect to its cigarette lighter socket.

Equipped with its official Qi2 certification, this charger provided pretty efficient 15W charging in practice. I managed to charge an iPhone 13 from empty to full in times ranging from 2hrs 47mins to 2hrs 53mins, which is about what I'd expect from a normal MagSafe charger. I also liked that there are blue lights on both the passenger and driver sides to show you that your phone is being powered.

Perhaps more importantly, the strong magnetic lock, combined with the sturdy mounting system, ensured that the phone remained securely in place, even during sharp turns or rough road conditions. Which, given my generally nervous state around expensive tech, was a big relief.

The ESR Qi2 15W MagSafe Car Mount Charger does what it's supposed to, simply and efficiently. It's easy to set up. It attaches magnetically to your phone easily. It charges your phone quickly. It lets you position your phone horizontally or vertically. And it comes with two mounting options: one that's more temporary and one that's more permanent. In short, if you're looking for an affordable way to charge a modern iPhone in your car, I would recommend this affordable option.

Ugreen has a strong history of varied power banks offering different things from the biggest capacities, to the fastest charging speeds. This MagSafe power bank for Ugreen adds all those ingredients together to make one of the highest capacity and fastest portable wireless power banks currently available. But can you have too much of a good thing?

The Ugreen Power Bank is at the time of writing $60 / £60, although is frequently discounted or has money off coupons from Amazon, so the price you see fluctuates a lot so might be worth waiting for a sale. This is around the same price as closest rival Anker’s 10,000mAh MagSafe Power Bank, although again, both see near-constant discounts and coupons. There are cheaper options out there, although when buying potentially dangerous high-capacity lithium batteries, my best advice would be above all to buy from a reputable brand.

Ugreen MagSafe Power Bank: Design & Handling

This MagSafe power bank fits in seamlessly with Ugreen’s design language for its devices and will feel very familiar to any previous users of Ugreen’s tech. The power bank uses the same dark gunmetal design, bordered by a shiny metallic strip running around the outside of the power bank. To break up all the grey, there is a small pop of purple to mark out the interior of the USB-A port.

I really like the design of Ugreen’s accessories, they have a premium feel to them, without the premium price tag. They also offer something materially different from what Anker, Belkin, and others are putting out. 

The MagSafe on the power bank works exceptionally well. I found it absolutely effortless to quickly snap my phone onto the magnetic portion of the power bank, with the magnets in the power bank and my iPhone lining up flawlessly the first time.

With 10,000mAh’s worth of batteries, this was never going to be a small or light power bank, but the biggest downside is how the power bank sits when attached to a phone. Even on the largest iPhone – the iPhone 15 Pro Max – the battery still pokes out of the bottom of the phone, and is big, bulky, and awkward to hold. This is compounded even further when using smaller iPhones.

The power bank works much better when not used as a portable bank, instead flicking out the built-in kickstand and leaving your phone to charge on your desk. In landscape mode, iPhones fall into their clock display mode, or can be used to watch movies and TV, or in portrait mode, you can watch vertical video, or just keep an eye on incoming notifications. Even when the power bank was out of juice, I still found myself using the power bank as a viewing stand.

Ugreen MagSafe Power Bank: Performance

Keeping my phone topped up with power every time it dropped too low – when attached to my iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Ugreen power bank managed to keep me from running to find a wall charger for around two full days, recharging the phone's full capacity around one and a half times. 

With twice the battery capacity as an iPhone, this might be surprising, but the phone also draws and uses power while recharging as well as wireless not being the most efficient method. You will get different results depending on your iPhone model, smaller iPhones like the regular iPhone 15 model will get a few more charges. 

The power bank can also be used to charge any other device via USB-C PD output, although tops out at 20W of power delivery which is quick but below the top charging speed of many phones and other devices, and will be no good for laptops, although is great to have backup power in a pinch.

I also tested the MagSafe power bank with a Pixel 8 Pro and a MagSafe-equipped case, which worked really well, although non-iPhones will be limited to slower charging speeds, but it is a good stop-gap until the Wireless Power Consortium finally gets its act together and releases the QI MagSafe spec for all.

Ugreen MagSafe Power Bank: Verdict

The landscape of MagSafe power banks is vast and varied, but if you're eyeing one product that boasts a comprehensive set of features, look no further than this MagSafe power bank from Ugreen. 

Packing a punch with a hefty 10,000mAh battery, 15W MagSafe charging capabilities, and an additional 20W PD USB-C charging, it's a triple threat. Moreover, its integrated kickstand provides the added convenience of hands-free video watching. 

Yet, the catch lies in its bulkier size, making it less pocket-friendly, and the potential inconvenience of wielding a slightly more cumbersome phone.

Alternatives

The big headline feature of the iPhone 15 range might have been the addition of USB-C charging, finally bringing it in line and up to date with the rest of the industry. However, Apple’s real charging innovation in the last few years has been the inclusion of MagSafe and its slow but steady transition to take advantage of wireless charging in all its devices. Soon we might not even be talking about what port the next iPhone has. 

The Belkin BoostCharge PRO 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with MagSafe is a versatile and elegant charging solution for your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. It features a 15W MagSafe charger that can hold your iPhone in portrait or landscape mode, a magnetic charger for your Apple Watch, and a Qi wireless charger for your AirPods.

Belkin is known for its great design, build quality, and reliability, offering a $1500 insurance policy for devices connected to its products for charging faults. But is the BoostCharge PRO 3-in-1 worth the $140 price tag? This places it firmly in the premium bracket when it comes to wireless charging stations, with Belkin clearly hoping its unique design can set it apart from the other more pedestrian-looking chargers out there. But in an increasingly crowded field do premium products still have a place?

Belkin BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1: Design & Handling

I am torn over whether I like the design of the Belkin 3-in-1 stand or not. When the stand is loaded up with devices, it looks really good, the iPhone and Apple Watch look like they are floating in the air and that looks pretty cool. 

However, when there is nothing on the stand then just sitting on a desk or side table then it begins to look a little out of place. It's when nothing is on it as well that I realized the stand is actually quite large, and the MagSafe arms for the phone and Watch stick out a little to get caught, especially the MagSafe puck which is quite significant in size.

The stand is just really well built, the entire design feels premium from the polished metal trunk and branches, to the clean minimal design of the base and pucks for placing my devices. I have the white version of the stand, which is my personal favorite, although there is a black version available as well, although the black version has white charging pucks, which I find an odd styling choice.

The wireless stand does not collapse in any way, so there is no way to make the stand more compact when not in use, and the awkward shape of the stand also means packing it for travel would be a bit silly, although this was never the intention of this product anyway.

The stand has a grippy material on the bottom which I found helped the stand not to slide around. Surprisingly the stand isn’t too heavy, which was an initial concern that it would be easy to tip when balancing something like an iPhone 15 Pro Max, however, I found the stand to be very stable, probably owing to its wide base anchoring it down.

One minor note; there is no wired throughput on the charger, and the charging is powered by its own barrel-type connection, so there is no way to charge your devices with a wired connection if you wanted to. 

Belkin BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1: Performance

The 3-in-1 stand was able to give my iPhone 15 Pro Max the full amount of wireless power it is able to take, meaning it is much faster to charge, I was able to recharge my phone in around an hour and thirty minutes, with it reaching around 50% full in 30-35 minutes. 

The 3-in-1 stand also easily handled charging my Apple Watch and Apple AirPods at the same time. The charger for the Apple Watch is compatible with Apple’s fast charge system, and my Watch also took around an hour and thirty to charge, the same as the phone. The final wireless charger in the base of the stand is the most versatile as it doesn’t have any magnetic element, so can charge most wireless devices including Apple’s AirPods but also other brands' headphones or accessories, which is nice if you want to use a pair of Sony’s superior noise canceling earbuds with your iPhone.

The magnetic adhesion for both the iPhone and the Watch is strong, however, I will caveat that by mentioning I don’t use a case on either device, which might affect your experience. I found the devices were easy to align and snap onto the stand, and I was left confident that they were not going to drop from their perch without a significant knock. I might not put this stand anywhere with a big drop onto a stone floor though, just in case.

Belkin BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1: Final Verdict

With its distinctive design, the Belkin Wireless charging stand made a stylish statement on my desk, but its unique design may not appeal to everyone’s tastes. When it is empty, it looks somewhat oversized and awkward, but it becomes more functional and attractive when it is holding up to three devices. The MagSafe connection feels strong and secure, and I found it easy to drop my iPhone into place.

It also offers the fastest wireless charging speeds for your compatible devices and charged my trio of iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple Watch 8, and AirPods simultaneously in good time comparable to the original chargers. But having all three charging on one stand is a level of efficiency and organization I appreciate.

I think this Ugreen power station looks so slick on my desk, both with nothing on it and the top folded flat or with my iPhone sitting on the MagSafe pad. The charger itself is smaller than a can of Coke, so can fit snugly in a busy desk setup. The power station is very well made, and it feels very high quality, especially the MagSafe lid that flips up and can be held to any degree up to 65°. 

The MagSafe charger works at any angle, so iPhones can be placed on portrait or landscape so you can choose between having a stream of notifications or iPhones ambient clock mode, or either TikTok or YouTube for entertainment. 

If you're worried about the charger's sturdiness with a phone the size of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, then fear not, in my testing with that exact device the charger was rock solid. The power station has a fair heft to it which weighs it down, and it has grippy little feet on the base I found very effective at stopping it sliding around.

Whilst Ugreen markets this as being a portable power station to take from place to place, I'd slightly disagree as it's a little on the heavy side and you have to disconnect and take the power cable which is an extra faff when it might be plugged in down the back of a desk. There are plenty of good portable wall chargers, so I think the Ugreen power station is a much better proposition as a permanent addition to your desktop.

Ugreen Nexode 100W with MagSafe: Performance

The charger performs well in my testing. I could get all the advertised amounts from the different ports, including enough power to charge my iPhone 15 Pro Max on the MagSafe charger, while charging and running my MacBook Air (M2) from the USB-C port. 

The charger had no issue assessing and adjusting to the maximum charging speed of any of the devices that I plugged into the various USB ports including my Fujifilm X-T5, AirPods, or iPad Air, charging them as fast as the device allows.

Below you can see the charging combinations for the Ugreen 100W charger, and you are not alone if you think they look pretty confusing. There are multiple different combinations of output for each port based on which other ports are in use. 

The 100W headline output of the charger quickly diminishes as soon as you try to charge another device. If your laptop needs 100W, but you also want to use the MagSafe pad on top, then you will be disappointed to learn that this drops the USB-C port to 65W. Interestingly, many of the charging combinations do not in fact add up to a full 100W.

When all the ports are in use, it really depends what you want to charge with the Ugreen station. An M1 or M2 chip MacBook Air, or similar Windows devices like the Surface Laptop can be powered with just 45W. Although more beefy laptops with more cores and better graphics will struggle to charge and run simultaneously.

Ugreen Nexode 100W with MagSafe: Final Verdict

The Ugreen Nexode 100W GaN charger, coupled with its 15W MagSafe feature, adds an elegant touch to any well-organized desktop setup. To begin with, the charger itself boasts a visually pleasing design, elevating the aesthetics of your workspace. However, when you place an iPhone in landscape orientation on the MagSafe charger, it transforms into a stunning desktop clock, blending functionality with style.

Furthermore, the charger's impressive 100-watt output provides ample power to efficiently charge most MacBooks and other laptops through a single port. It also accommodates the charging needs of various peripheral devices. Yet, I can't help but see a missed opportunity in the absence of a second wireless charger beneath the top surface, which could have been perfect for charging AirPods or an Apple Watch, further enhancing the charger's versatility.

However, with few chargers offering both wireless charging and a powerful desktop charger combination, this unique combination makes this one of my favorite chargers I have used.

Tidying up the charging experience and taking advantage of Apple’s improved high-speed charging is something that could eliminate untidy cable areas and clean up bedside tables and kit bags, so there is a growing market for 3-in-1 charging options. Not all, however, are neat enough to be easily portable, nor sport an official Apple ‘Made For MagSafe’ approval. Anker has done both here, so the question is whether it’s up to the task (and where it’s worth the price).

There is no doubting the elegance of Anker’s design, and you feel a robust heft as soon as you pick it up. This weight supports a big iPhone in a case even when viewed at 60˚ away from the level – we tested with the 240g (8.5oz) iPhone 14 Pro Max.

I’m not going to argue the design isn’t more on the unusual side, and there will be plenty of people who prefer a more traditional flat charging pad or stand. In its space grey color, the Cube looks a little like a prop from a sci-fi film, but it doesn’t look out of place on a desk or side table, the footprint this cube takes up when not in use is tiny, and when it is collapsed, it is barely unnoticeable. When laden with Apple products the tiny Cube is just substantial enough to not look overwhelmed, the Cube is also nicely weighted without being heavy, but it meant that I wasn’t concerned about the Cube just tipping over.

The mechanism for lifting the top up and down is really smooth but robust feeling, the slant is held in place strongly, and won’t immediately start folding under the weight of your phone, although I am not sure how long this tensile strength will last over time and continuous folds. I did manage to pinch my finger once or twice when collapsing the Cube, so just something to watch out for. 

The little pop-out shelf for charging your Apple Watch doesn’t quite match the same quality, the shelf rattles and moves about quite a bit, although it doesn’t feel like it would fall out or break off, it would just be nicer for it to feel a little tighter connected to the main Cube. The slide-in drawer needs to be pushed a good 3 mm back into the cube to reliably ‘click’ back.

I think where the Anker Cube wins out is in just how easy it is to grab the charger, collapse it, and throw it into a bag to go to work or go traveling. The entire cube is no less bulky than a normal MacBook Pro charger. The charger is entirely powered by a USB-C port on the back, and the cube comes with a USB-C mains plug that has US, UK, and EU-style interchangeable plugs. Or you can just plug that same USB-C directly into your device for faster wired charging for a single device if you are in a hurry.

Anker 3-in-1 Cube: Performance

There isn’t really much to say on the Anker Cube except it does exactly what it claims. I managed to charge my iPhone 14 Pro via the MagSafe wireless charger on the front, AirPods on the wireless charging pad under the top, and Apple Watch on the pop-out charger all at the same time with no issue.

We had no trouble charging an iPhone 14, and you’ll get the advantage of 15W fast charge from iPhones in series 12 and up. Similarly, the watch charging tray can provide fast-charging to Series 7 and up, though will handle any other Apple watch too. In fact the only thing we weren’t convinced was charging was a knock-off AirPods case, but it turned out to work too. 

The strength of the magnetic lid made for a good viewing stand too; there is something a bit odd about the phone seeming to hover like a tiny TV but it’s useful, and even solid screen pressing didn’t tip it. Admittedly it might occasionally by handy to be able to open the lid beyond 60˚ (if the cube were on a bedside table and you were trying to watch streaming video from the pillow). Presumably, however, that’d require more counterweight which we wouldn’t appreciate. 

(Given weight is an inevitable aspect of the design, we found ourselves wondering if it might be possible to fill it with batteries, so the cube could also function as a power brick.)

The included power adapter has regional adapters and a single 30W USB-C connection which, when not charging the cube, can be redirected to keep a laptop going. 

Anker 3-in-1 Cube: Verdict

This is a love-it-or-hate-it solution to a problem a lot of us have; annoying trailing cables on the bedside table or, worse, crammed into that shameful pocket of your travel bag. It comes at a price though. Two actually; one metaphorical and the other actual. The former is the weight which, including its neat power brick, is a noticeable addition to a rucksack. 

It does look gorgeous though, and we’d speculate that anyone with three Apple devices recent enough to benefit from the cube might be able to stretch a few extra dollars for an elegant piece of design. The heaviness issue might actually be counterbalanced if it became your traveling laptop charger too – at which point you’d have just one compact power brick, one USB-C lead, and a very neat cube. We find it hard to believe an Apple fan would be disappointed by this device – and it’s a great gift for the Apple fan who has everything!

This pretty case from Kate spade New York is ideal for those wanting to add a bit of glam to their iPhone 14 Pro, with a case that offers both style and protection. While it might not be the best iPhone 14 Pro case on the market in the way of military-grade protection, it does have a shock-absorbing cushioned bumper, that can provide adequate protection for drops of up to 12 feet.
