If your heart still beats for DSLR (like mine) and you're looking for a top professional camera, the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV might already be sitting on your wishlist.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is now £1,789 – down from £2,489 – saving you £700 on what we rated as one of the very best DSLRs for stills and video in existence. 

We saw this price from Wex during Black Friday week, but the huge reduction is back again for 2026 - and I fear we may not see this camera even on sale come next year.

With no one knowing how long Canon will continue supporting its DSLR lineup, this deal is hard to ignore. Canon hasn't released a new DSLR since 2020, despite being the top-selling DSLR manufacturer over recent years.

With overall DSLR shipments declining, Canon still rules 90% of the global DSLR market. However, success is likely driven by entry-level bundles – that's everything else than the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV!

It boasts a solid and weather-sealed body with a comfortable grip at just 890g. The 30.4MP full-frame sensor delivers high-detail images and excellent ISO performance up to 102,400, while the 61-point AF system with Dual Pixel technology ensures fast, accurate focus even in near-dark conditions.

And the 5D Mark IV delivers the classic DSLR experience – from the mirror slap and long battery life to compatibility with Canon's EF lens ecosystem.

Is this our 'last' chance?

At this shockingly low price, I can't get off the feeling that the time to buy the Canon 5D Mark IV might be over soon, at least brand-new and sealed. After all, Canon has largely shifted to mirrorless cameras, the 5D line is reportedly discontinued, and remaining stock may be limited.

On the other hand, official support hasn't ended, DSLRs still have a loyal following, and "new old stock" could continue to surface, so it's not guaranteed the camera will vanish overnight.

That said, industry trends and clearance-style discounts suggest that availability of brand-new, sealed units is shrinking, making this deal a rare chance to get the 5D Mark IV at such a low price.

Either way, at a price this low, it's hard to pass up the chance to get one while you still can.

The Nikon Z6 III is the best Z-series camera for enthusiasts, I reckon. Its full-frame 24.5-megapixel sensor offers the perfect compromise of quality images with manageable file sizes, without straying into the realms of pro-level (and pro-priced) cameras with super-high-res 45.7 megapixel sensors, namely the Nikon Z8 and Z9. If you're in the market for a Z6 III, you'll save a heap of cash if you get one with a kit lens.

But which one? The Nikon Z 24-70mm f/4 S is the usual option – often lauded as the best-ever kit lens – but I reckon the Z 24-120mm f/4 is the better buy, especially with the deal I've found below. Older cameras tend to have the steepest discounts, but I just spotted a lowest-ever price on a new compact retro mirrorless that even beats Amazon's price. The OM System OM-3 is a five-star rated mirrorless camera that’s currently at its lowest-ever price on Amazon, but Adorama has a hidden coupon that takes an additional $105 off the kit or $90 off the body-only sale price.

The OM System OM-3 is a retro yet small mirrorless that feels very much like a continuation of the popular Olympus PEN series. Reviewer James Artius – who is an OM System shooter himself – gave the camera five stars, calling it the “perfect camera for me” thanks to its a compact retro design mixed with flagship technology on the inside.

According to Amazon price trackers, the OM System OM-3 is at its lowest-ever price right now at $2,099 paired with a 12-24mm kit lens or $1,799 body-only. But, photo specialty store Adorama matches that sale price but adds a hidden automatic coupon on top of that. The hidden coupon is for $90 off the body only, making it $1,709, or $105 on the kit, making it $1,994 after both discounts are applied.

The reason to opt for the OM System OM-3 is for its mix of a compact, retro design with the high-end features packed inside. The OM-3 has a classic SLR-style look with film-like top dials and a weather-sealed metal construction. But, packed inside is some of the same tech that’s in the brand’s OM-1 Mark II flagship, including fast autofocus, 50 fps bursts, and computational photography.

While the OM-3 packs in high-end tech in a gorgeous body, it’s a Micro Four Thirds camera that has just 20.4MP without using the high-res mode. The camera also only has a single card slot and lacks a joystick and grip. Still, the OM-3 carries enough features to secure a five-star review rating and a hard-earned spot on the list of the best retro cameras.

Leica is a camera brand synonymous with luxury, and as such, discounts on cameras with the iconic red circle logo are a rarity. Not only has a Leica mirrorless kit dropped by more than $1,000 during Cyber Monday sales, but it’s even a newer model and the model that reviewers say “might just be the best mirrorless camera that Leica has ever made.”

The Leica SL3-S is a fast 30fps burst, open gate, Leica mirrorless. Introduced near the start of 2025, the SL3-S is a little sibling to the SL-3 that drops the resolution on the full-frame sensor to 24MP, but trades the lower resolution for faster performance and even open gate video recording.

Sales on Leica gear are rare – though not completely nonexistent – and right now the SL3-S paired with the Vario-Elmarit-SL 28-70mm f/2.8 lens is $1,060 off in the US. That’s a 14 percent discount off the list price and makes a lens that retails for $1,890 cost $830 on top of the body-only price.

I used the Leica 28-70mm f/2.8 lens during a trip to New York, and the lens delivers excellent quality yet is far more compact than Leica's similar 24-70mm f/2.8.

The Leica SL3-S feels every bit a Leica – and is IP54 weather-sealed to boot. Reviewer James Artaius described the SL3-S as an “artisan product that oozes quality.” While the camera may not have the 60MP of the original SL3, it makes up for that with 30fps burst shooting and 6K open gate video.

While the discount on a high-end Leica is rare, the SL3-S still isn’t impulse-buy-cheap. Cameras like the Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX have several similarities for a much lower price point, but the SL3-S does boast a better dynamic range and better noise reduction. Leica cameras are also known for holding their value over the years and tend to still sell for nice sums when used.

While the $1,060 discount on the SL3-S kit is the best Leica discount that I’ve seen during the holiday sales, it’s not Leica’s only discount running. Leica is also bundling a free Oberwerth Edward M bag and accessories with the Leica M11 series.

I thought that I'd get through the deals season unscathed – perhaps I'd spend a very few notes on some memory cards and nothing else. As it happens, I haven't spent a lot, but I'll be getting two cameras and a microphone for my money, and aiming to start a whole new content empire – we live in exciting times in terms of quality!

I reckon I'll get one of the bundles with the microphone and one without. I reviewed the DJI Mic Mini and it was brilliant quality.

My point here is that for a surprisingly small investment, I'm getting two 4K cameras that can shoot 4K (and have interchangeable compatible batteries and the same mounting system) and a microphone. That's basically an entire portable studio.

And you should never underestimate the convenience of compatible accessories. That saves a lot of money too. One spare battery needed instead of two different types, that kind of thing.

Perhaps I'll treat myself to a third camera, thinking about it. At $209, it still costs less than a lens for my main camera. (I mean one of these costs less than a repair to the viewfinder on my Sony a7 III but that's a whole other story).

Setting the three cameras to the same settings will be simple. Oh, and that's another thing – three cameras with the same menu system will make life easier. Fewer ways of working to remember when trying to capture video on the go.

In terms of working, it's all about getting video to the platform sooner, not getting it absolutely perfect.

Moreover, the main means of creating is to get a few angles and dump them into an editor which can use the audio to line up the video tracks – there is no need for timecodes or anything. Final Cut Pro does this from the audio in moments, and it's brilliant. I can then tap between cameras as if I was running a live broadcast – the feature is called Multicam.

Other editors have equivalents, and you can mix cameras too – but with prices on cameras that were the premium product on the market just 13 months ago so good, why not snap these up?

We test and review a lot of cameras on Digital Camera World. So when something is special enough for us not just to buy with our own money, but also put on our podcast, you know it's worth paying attention to!

If you want to find a camera that’s the least likely to go on sale, find a camera that’s so trendy, it’s hard to find in stock. But after trends made the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 hard to find, the popular pocket gimbal camera now has huge discount in the Black Friday camera sales.

The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 earned viral fame for its unusual design that mixes a one-inch sensor camera with a built-in gimbal. That eliminates shaky videos without having to worry about mounting and configuring a gimbal, making it a popular choice for anything from content creation to capturing vacation videos.

While the Pocket 3’s popularity made the camera hard to find for several months, the unusual vlogging camera has now dropped by $270 at US photo retailer B&H, going for $529. 

The Pocket 3 is no longer difficult to find, with availability at several retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, and Adorama. But the camera is still out of stock at DJI’s US website. Retailers don’t list an end date for the sale, and the camera’s popularity could mean the discount may not last long.

The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is really like a pocketable TV studio. The camera, lens, gimbal, and mic are all integrated into one single device, which can be operated all from the rotating screen. The built-in gimbal isn’t just for eliminating shaking video, however. The camera also has integrated tracking features, so you can record a video of yourself and have the camera follow you as you move around.

As a professional photographer, you can usually find me with one mirrorless camera on each hip and a toolbelt of extra lenses, flashes, and accessories around my waist. I still love taking pictures when I’m not working, but when I go on vacation, hauling around a kit full of gear feels, well, like work. That’s why on my last family vacation, I ended up taking more pictures on a compact camera: The OM System Tough TG-7.

With no one knowing how long Canon will continue supporting its DSLR lineup, this deal is hard to ignore. Canon hasn't released a new DSLR since 2020, despite being the top-selling DSLR manufacturer over recent years.

With overall DSLR shipments declining, Canon still rules 90% of the global DSLR market. However, success is likely driven by entry-level bundles – that's everything else than the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV!

The Fujifilm X100VI has been so popular since its launch, that for much of the time it has been on back order almost everywhere you look. Even nearly two years since this retro syled replacement for the equally successful X100V came onto the market it is never discounted – not even in the Black Friday camera deals that are live across the internet right now. Sorry if you are disappointed - but that the truth.

In the UK, you can be thankful - if you tried to buy one in the US you wouldn't find it in stock still - so you would have to join a waiting list or pay over the odds to get one. I've actually been hit by another driver which consequently totalled my own vehicle. I've now fitted front and rear dash cams to my replacement car, and I wouldn't drive without them. As a professional photographer, you can usually find me with one mirrorless camera on each hip and a toolbelt of extra lenses, flashes, and accessories around my waist. While the TG-7 is my favorite compact for travel, there’s another type of photographer that I also recommend this camera for: kids and teens. A kid's camera needs to survive dunks in the toilet and being grabbed with sticky after-dinner fingers. The TG-7 will do all that, plus as a camera made for adults, it’s one they won’t grow out of as a tween or teen.

Nikon's first 'videocentric' mirrorless, the Z30 is basically a Z50 sans the electronic viewfinder and with a vari-angle screen that flips out to the side and rotates to face the front, rather than the Z50's flip-down affair.

I had to do a double-take when I stumbled across this Nikon Zf Black Friday offer, because it's one hell of a better deal than Amazon thinks it is. According to Amazon's website, it's available at a modest 4% saving, down from £1360 to £1301. A £59 saving is definitely worth having, but hardly earth-shattering.

But hold on? This is a Nikon Zf full-frame retro-style camera we're talking about – that price sounds well below the usual going rate, not just a little bit off… Indeed, when I checked how this compared to other retailers, I found much higher prices across the board: the cheapest I could find was a 'sale' price of £1599, down from a list price of £2299.

So that £1301 is actually pretty much a whole grand off the 'normal' price that everyone else is quoting. My advice is to jump on this deal sooner rather than later!

The Nikon Zf is quite possibly the most desirable Nikon camera of them all. Its retro design is inspired by the Nikon FM2 SLR, featuring brass mechanical dials. But while it may look old-school on the outside, internally, it boasts modern technology, including a 24.5MP full-frame sensor, the powerful EXPEED 7 processor, and up to 8 stops of 5-axis in-body VR. The Fujifilm X Half is a retro digital camera made to feel like film – but as much as I was enamoured with the little camera when I first picked it up, I think it's too expensive. Or, at least, it usually is – A $200 discount is making the retro compact camera a much better buy.

The Fujifilm X Half is a digital compact camera that’s made to feel like film. For starters, it has the Fujifilm film simulation that’s made cameras like the X100VI so popular, along with a “film” advance lever. But, the X Half also has a film mode that comes with the film-like anticipation of seeing the photos.

I tried out the Fujifilm X Half at a recent photography show, and I was immediately charmed by the tiny retro compact camera – it’s smaller than it looks from the photos. But, I also thought it was a bit too pricey, as the camera lacks some pro-level features like RAW photos, and it still retails for $849 / £699 / AU$1,349.

I think the list price on the X Half is too steep, but a temporary price drop finally puts the retro camera at a price that feels just right for its list of features.

In the US, the price has just dropped by $200 to $650. The camera is also discounted in the UK, where it’s now £499, and in Australia, where it’s $899.

There’s little to say about Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and Adobe Lightroom Classic that hasn’t already been said. Heck, Photoshop is so popular it’s become a verb in its own right and is known across the world by people who haven’t ever edited a photograph in their life. It’s the OG, the industry standard by which all other photo-editing software is judged.

And while Adobe has drawn the ire of many a photographer over the years for what some have considered hefty prices and unwanted subscription models, Photoshop and Lightroom are still my go-to for editing my own images because the Creative Cloud ecosystem just works. And at £98.99 for Photoshop and Lightroom, and £61.99 for Lightroom and Lightroom Classic, you’re probably paying less than your Netflix subscription!

If you’re having trouble deciding which one to go for, it all comes down to how much you’re going to use Photoshop. If you’re new to Adobe software, you might think Photoshop is essential (it’s the grandaddy after all). But most photographers, Lightroom, and Lightroom Classic have become the go-to. That’s because they’re designed for batch editing, that’s to say, you can edit lots of images simultaneously, in batches, whereas Photoshop’s layer-based workflow is largely designed for editing one image at a time.

Lightroom has also become more like Photoshop over the years. You can locally edit images using masking and even clone or heal to remove unwanted objects. Personally, I spend most of my time in Lightroom. I turn to Photoshop for things like focus stacking and to make the most of its layer-based workflow so I can make more intricate and involved edits.

Ultimately, if your editing workflow is extremely simple, adjusting a few sliders here and there, you can probably make do with Lightroom. If you anticipate doing heavy cloning, focus stacking, frequency separation, exposure blending, etc, then be sure to pick up the bundle with Photoshop.

If there’s one camera that I think deserves far more attention from filmmakers than it gets, it’s the Fujifilm X-H2s. Following the release of the new Canon EOS R6 III, we expected to see some great deals on the older, but still very capaable, EOS R6 II. But I don't think we expected to see the price to drop quite this low (and particularly as the Mark III has still to arrive in the shops). If I were starting my photographic journey from scratch right now, I'd skip the zoom lens and go with a nifty fifty prime. Why? It's simple: this one lens will teach you so much about photography and you'll learn faster than you will with a zoom.

A succession of tariff changes has meant that prices for cameras and lenses are, generally, than they were a year ago. But prices are settling at last - and that does mean that we have been seeing some discounting from the big photo retailers.

Amazon went early with its Black Friday sale - and that meant that lots of its rivals were also forced to offer discounts ahead of Thanksgiving. But we still expect to see some better pricing as be head into Friday itself...

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 is five years old now - but we'd still recommend it as one of the best mirrorless cameras for beginners. Using the Micro Four Thirds lens mount and sensor means that it is smaller than many of its system camera rivals.

What's more it looks great - with a choice of black or chrome finish with $200 off at Amazon - bringing the ticket price WITH lens to $699.99

The prices of the best mirrorless cameras have crept ever upwards - and it can seem that it is hard to afford even the relatively recent flagship models... A solution is to buy older models... The Canon EOS R5 may have been superceded by the R5 Mark II - but it is still a great current cameras - which you can now get with a $700 saving taking it to $2,599 from B&H.

The DJI Mini 4K is a great little first drone because it’s capable of capturing 4K video, but at $239 via Amazon, it’s not a huge outlay for an accident-prone beginner pilot.

We’ve already talked about how you can get $48 off the Polaroid Now Generation 2, but what about the Generation 3? For less than $20 more, you can pick up the gen 3 in a funky yellow colorway for $90 direct from Polaroid. Both cameras will capture lovely instant photos, but the gen 3 is an incremental update, with better AF, flash, low-light performance, and more. You'll need to be a Polaroid member (which is free) to get this exclusive price, but it's still only $99.99 without the membership.

Right then, Black Friday-ers! Here’s one for the serious video types out there. I don’t know about you, but I never thought I’d be able to afford a box-style cinema camera. But the folks at Blackmagic have been busy redefining the boundaries of what a cinema camera can cost, with a range of exceedingly affordable bodies (comparatively).

Perhaps the best deal I’ve seen so far this Black Friday is on the Blackmagic PYXIS 6K. This monstrous entity can capture 6K / 60p (open gate up to 36p), and boasts a rig-centric form factor, all for just $2,305. Shut the front door! That’s the price of a mid-range mirrorless for goodness sake...

If your closet is full of vintage clothes and you only drink a very specific blend of coffee, then listen up! I’ve found a scintillating deal on the most hipster camera from the most hipster brand. I’m, of course, talking about the undeniably charming Fujifilm X Half. Half the sensor, DOUBLE THE FUN (I’ll get my coat).

Not only is Adorama offering up this retro-chic device for $200 off at just $649, but you get a little accessory bundle to boot. I think it's safe to say that quite a few Fujifilm fans considered the X Half's RRP to be slightly expensive, but I think this offer puts it right back in contention. If you're a casual photographer or want a filmic experience without the hassle of real film, and don't want to pay Fujifilm X100VI prices, then the X Half is a great shout.

Talk of the Fujifilm X Half (below) has reminded me that the Kodak Ektar H35N is on offer at Amazon with a free roll of 35mm film. However, having checked, it’s moved slightly from a low of $59.99 for the Striped Green variant to a low of $65.20 for the Glazed Orange variant. It’s also worth mentioning that you can find the Glazed Pink and Striped Silver variants without the roll of film over at B&H Photo for $51.99. Although technically this isn’t listed as a deal. I’ll update you if and when Amazon US alters its pricing on these fantastic little stocking fillers.

Any full-frame mirrorless camera under $1,000 is a great deal. But if you know anything about Panasonic cameras, you’ll know that they always boast exceedingly good specs for the price, and the Panasonic Lumix S5 is no different. The proof is in the pudding: weather resistance, up to 6.5 stops of image stabilization, the ability to capture 96MP RAW images (via sensor shift), and 4K / 60p 10-bit 4:2:0 video. All for just $997 over at Amazon right now. Talk about bang for your buck!

Okay, so the mischievous folks at Adorama have given me the run around – they’ve only gone and added a further $50 reduction coupon onto the Fujifilm X Half if you purchase it body-only! That makes it $599. And in my mind, I think that’s better value than the $649 bundle deal I posted earlier, because I’m pretty sure you can pick up an SD card and a case for less than $50 (or you simply might not need those accessories). Still, they’re both great deals on this cutesy little camera. Oh, and these deals are for every colorway, too. Black, Charcoal, Silver, whatever complements your flannel shirt and vintage jeans, I guess...

If you ask me, the Nikon Z5 II is one of the best bang-for-your-buck cameras on the market right now, and that’s before you consider the Black Friday asking price of $1596.95 by way of Amazon. That’s a pretty healthy discount of $253 for a camera that was only released in April.

So, what do you get for your money? Well, firstly, access to Nikon’s incredible line-up of Z-mount lenses is nothing to sniff at, and that’s before you consider the 24.5-MP BSI full-frame sensor, Nikon’s flagship Expeed image processor, up to 7.5 stops of IS, a dual SD card slot, 14fps RAWs (30fps JPEGs), and 4K / 60p (albeit with a 1.5x crop). Oh yeah, and RAW video output. Talk about making the Nikon Z6 III sing for its supper!

Looking to bag a bag deal this Black Friday (see what I did there)? I’ve spied with my little eye, something beginning with… Oh, I can’t wait! The Lowepro Pro Trekker BP 350 AW II 24L Camera Backpack is now just $179 over at Adorama, which is a very healthy 59% discount on the $441.95 RRP. I’ve used a Lowepro backpack for years, so I can stand by the company’s penchant for quality.

This one’s right up my street. I’ve been meaning to upgrade my non-brand LED light panels I use for product photography for ages, and this Rotolight NEO 3 starter bundle for just $149 at Amazon is a tempting deal indeed. I’ve used the NEO 3 before and was impressed with the brightness of its beam, and how refreshingly intuitive the on-light controls are to use. At this price, I might pick up two!

If you’re searching for deals on Adorama, make sure you’re scouring the page carefully as I’m noticing lots of instant coupons that aren’t particularly visible. The OM System Tough TG-7 in black or red is a case in point. Not only is it $50 off, but an instant coupon slashes it by a further $100 in the cart, making it $499.99 all told.

If you’re an adrenaline junky who needs a compact camera that can hang with you halfway up a rock face or beneath the waves, then the Tough is where it’s at. Heck, if Chuck Norris owned a camera, I’d bet my last buck it’d be this!

Before I get back to the sexy camera deals, I thought I’d remind everyone that Black Friday is the most wonderful time of the year to pick up memory cards. I know, I know, spending dollar on storage space might not be the Black Friday buy you had in mind, but there are some great savings to be had at B&H Photo in particular. My card manufacturer of choice is SanDisk, so I’ve also posted a tidy 128GB CFexpress Type B deal below.

If you’re buying a CFexpress card for the first time, just make sure you’ve got the memory card reader to handle it. Even if you’ve got a reader that fits, do check to make sure it’s not XQD only.

Sometimes a deal seems too good to be true, yet it is, and that's the case with this unbelievable Gitzo carbon fiber tripod that comes with not one but two heads. Gitzo is well known as the most premium of tripod brands, and it's not often that any of its gear can be labeled as a 'bargain'. I've tried plenty of its gear but never owned any, as I've never been able to afford it – until today!

The 'Gitzo B&H Photo Special 50th Anniversary Kit' is a colab between the premium tripod manufacturer and camera retailer B&H, which bundles a top-quality GT2542 Mountaineer Series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripod and GH3382QD Ball Head kit, which normally retails for $1,699 on its own, and adds a GHF3W 3-Way Fluid Head, which has a regular price of $689.95. Blackmagic has launched its Black Friday camera deals through retailers such as B&H Photo and Adorama, which are offering up some truly scintillating deals.

It’s not the camera for everyone, but you can save 50% off the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K, which is a whopping $3,530 off the RRP of this production-grade cinema behemoth.

But if you’re anything like me, you’ll be more interested in the Australian company’s more accessible wares, namely its Pocket Cinema Camera line-up and the exceedingly good-value PYXIS.

I've been writing about drones for years – I'd say I've written the book on the subject but that'd be forgetting the other book! Not that anyone needs me to blow my own trumpet – the point is that as an enthusiast, professional, and reviewer, I know a lot about drones – and I enjoy them.

Now we're being bombarded with offers for discounted drones, it's difficult to sort the good from the bad, and this year it's especially challenging because several different sides of the US government also seem to be lending their opinions on the matter too.

That's actually good news for prices, though, as some of the best drones – from the biggest brands – are being reduced in price thanks to the uncertainty. There has been a lot of movement on pricing in the UK around the DJI Neo. This drone – still incredibly giftable – remains cheaper than the Neo 2, and has most of the same features, so if you're buying for someone, there is much to be said for it. Many recipients would prefer the Neo and three batteries than the Neo 2 and one battery, I assure you.

In the USA, the Neo 2 isn't officially available yet, but that doesn't mean the discounts haven't made it.

The reason I recommend the Neo series of drones is that you can buy the drone relatively cheaply, and if it goes down well (it will) it can be upgraded later with a traditional remote control or even a floating wand controller and FPV goggles. It is also very safe because of its lightweight caged design.

If you're looking to spend AND save on a high-end drone in the USA, and need to side-step the DJI brand but want all the same features, then don't miss the Skyrover X1, which is being sold in a three-battery bundle with a charging hub

This drone basically has all the features of the DJI Mini 4 Pro – and a similar bundle for that drone with three batteries will set you back $1,500. This, however, is a brighter color, has no DJI software or branding, and costs A LOT less this Black Friday, in America at least.

(And when I say the same features, I mean it – many have commented on the similarities, but not the FAA, you'll be pleased to know!)

I was really impressed with the original HoverAir X1 drone, and I think many people might find the 8K version – the HoverAir X1 Pro Max – a bit excessive in terms of features (and cost). Good news is that you can find the original for a generous discount – plus the bundle that includes the one accessory you'd actually want (an extra battery) is reduced by $100 – and it's in stock at Amazon. I absolutely love the super-safe, light, pocketable folding design of this 'follow-me' drone because it keeps the propellers in a cage and the whole drone folds away like a book and can be pocketed. Brilliant.

OK, I admit this update is a bit niche, but the saving is mighty impressive, so I think you'd be disappointed in me for not mentioning it when I saw it! Adorama – is a great place to pick up a drone during Black Friday because it respects the discounting AND it stocks premium equipment and this is a great example. It has a 1080P night vision gimbal camera for the M300 drones – pretty high-end stuff that police departments use – and the price is down by $10,000. Not too bad at all!

(Consumers might also be interested to know that Adorama seem to think they will stock the Neo 2 in the USA... interesting, but no discount there obviously!)

At the other end of the scale, I've also noticed that some of the kind of drone I always recommend that people buy at this time of year as simple gifts are showing up with good percentage discounts.

Walmart have $6 off the Sharper Image stunt drone, which has a good safe design for indoor play and the same stick arrangement as any other drone so it's a great beginning point for anyone learning (or a younger sibling eying a more expensive or more vulnerable device).

When is a DJI Avata 2 not a DJI Avata 2? When it is a DJI Neo!

There is a deal that looks too good to be true on Amazon UK, and, well, it is. Try ordering the DJI Neo with three batteries on this link and the text promises an Avata 2, but the link seems to suggest otherwise.

I tried it, and it was a Neo that came in the post. Luckily Amazon.co.uk will accept a return for me, or – interestingly – let me keep it and accept £17 for their error (and to be fair £209 isn't a bad price for the Neo, if that had been what I wanted... just saying...)

Looking for a good price on a non-DJI drone? The Potensic Atom SE is a great choice.

This is a drone I have reviewed and impressed me. It has a good build quality, with some definite nods toward the market leader, but keeps the costs down to a minimum at the best of times.

Moreover I'm a big fan of the design of the remote control which builds a solid phone holder so you can see the screen and keep the control sticks in a comfortable place. Ontop of all that, Potensic manage to throw in an extra battery with the standard bundle.

The only thing to remember: EIS means Electronic Image Stabilization. That's good, but it's not as good as a full gimbal, which is what you find in the ATOM.

I just mentioned the Potension Atom SE with its electronic image stabilization. That's great, but if you're looking for something a bit more impressive in terms of quality, the Potensic Atom 2 drone is also discounted for Black Friday, and it has either the same cool concept for the remote or even a remote with a built-in screen (for more bread, of course). This is another drone that did very well in my review, and only a few months ago!

Exciting to see a significant discount on a drone that offers a good mix of a decent camera, child-friendly safety features, foldable design for portability, and – if you want – no controller at all because it has the AI to follow you – BUT is being sold in a bundle with a controller with a screen so you don't need to find a phone and can fly a good long range. The deals do keep chopping and changing today, but you can read more about the DJI Flip in my review.

When is a 6K drone not a 6K drone?

So this is a really good deal, I think, but don't be fooled into thinking that it can shoot 6K video from that name. It's a 4K 30fps video – in that respect similar to the DJI Mini 4K, but the 6K is being given as a measure of the resolution of still photographs – and that isn't very impressive.

When you're buying discount drones remember that 4K is good and 30fps is fine (60fps is great), but watch out for this trick. I've seen a lot of 6K and 8K measurements given for devices that can only capture 4K video and stills at higher resolutions (the only 8K video drones I can immediately think of are the very different Hover Air X1 Pro Max and the somewhat less affordable DJI Inspire 3.)

Can you trust Rufus, the Amazon AI? It suggested to me (without me even asking) that this is what it'd tell me about the G11PRO drone – which does NOT have what we would call 'obstacle avoidance' or 'collision avoidance':

"Based on the product specifications and features, the Gleesfun G11PRO Drone includes several safety and navigation features rather than traditional obstacle avoidance sensors..."

and it goes on to list several other systems which it admits are not "traditional obstacle avoidance sensors that actively detect and avoid objects" but the system is very keen to, lets say, highlight their benefits! In other words, my advice is, if you're buying a product, perhaps an AI run by the retailer might be a little more 'positive' than you need.

One of the great DJI accessory deals is the company's Power Stations, which – until December 1 – are starting at just $279 instead of $499.

Not a lot more to be said about that, except check out the link – you can buy from DJI direct and some of the bundles – but not the basic Power Station 500 – are out of stock already. I've tested the Power Station 1000 and I found it a great way to keep my drones going a lot longer than usual out in the field (and my MacBook Pro!)

I mentioned the 8K-capable HOVERAir X1 PROMAX in a recent update, and it's worth noting that if you do fancy a very capable, but also very pocketable drone, then there are bundles for the Pro version of that "follow me" drone that start around the $600 mark, but the big bundles are impressively discounted at Amazon – check it:

Don't forget great Christmas and holiday presents can be stocking fillers and the like – the Snaptain SP350 is just $35 even though it includes three batteries (OK, small ones – it is for indoor play) and the controller.

This will be all anyone needs to get used to the basics of controls and, as I've said many times before (and it never gets any less true), learning the basics on a simple drone with not many automatic tricks (like GPS) means you'll be all the better a pilot when it comes to a more expensive camera drone! (Of course they're good toys too...)

All the deals say they are 'Cyber Monday Deals' now - not Black Friday deals. So one small taste of my experience that I can give you is that Cyber Monday deals can get very good on wholly digital products (things like electronic subscriptions) where there is no significant physical cost to the retailer, but most of the prices that were good enough for Black Friday might carry on through the weekend if the stocks last but I wouldn't be holding out for longer on physical products if I saw a really good deal. That's just my thoughts, of course, and the rules change every year (this year started even earlier, for example), but that's my experience for what it is worth.

Rest assured, I'll definitely mention it if I see something that breaks this rule!

Take a chance on me...?

OK, so I've not reviewed this drone and, honestly, without having done so and not knowing the brand it woudln't be my first choice – but – with two batteries of about 22 minutes each, a 4K camera (promised) on a mechanical gimbal (admittedly only 2-axis) and GPS, this definitely seems worth trying out if you're able to take full advantage of the 63% price cut!

At full price this is not a patch on the DJI Mini 4K – which is also discounted to as little as $239 – and with one 31-minute battery would still be my first choice of the two – but if cost is your key criterion then I should at least draw your attention to this possibility. (The nice thing about Amazon, after all, is that you can always return it).
