After gaining its independence from Huawei, in the fallout of the US trade sanctions that sank the former phone giant, Honor has made great strides establishing itself as a brand in its own right.

While the company still faces something of an uphill battle for mass acceptance in the United States and Europe, given its past associations and distribution channels, globally Honor is building on the great foundation it inherited from Huawei and has carved a real niche for itself.

Honor rumors were all concentrated around the latest Magic family – the Honor Magic4, Honor Magic4 Pro and Honor Magic4 Pro+ – the newest generation of Honor flagships, which were unveiled at MWC 2022 in Barcelona.

While the Magic 3 Pro launched in China, the West missed out, meaning that means the Magic 4 Pro is the first flagship from Honor to launch outside China. We don’t expect the phone to launch in the US, but we do know it’s coming to Europe – UK pricing was made available at the launch event.

The most standout features on the Honor Magic4 Pro are the industry first 100W wireless charging feature and, from a design point of view, what Honor calls the ‘Eye of Muse camera’ – the camera array features a circular camera surround with a periscope camera in the center, designed to get the best balance when flitting between lenses. The smartphone’s wide and ultra-wide cameras are both 50MP.

This flagship phone is powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 + 8GB or 12GB RAM inside the Magic 4 Pro. It runs with Android 12, and Honor’s Magic UI 6 over the top. As for the screen, it’s a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED panel with brightness of up to 1,000 nits with a resolution of 1312 x 2848.

We’re just at early review stage at the moment so check back for a full verdict – will Honor finally be able to claim best camera phone on the market – a title that Huawei managed to nab at various points?
