Fujifilm’s global festival celebrating photography is returning to New York City for the first time in four years. Fujifilm Fuijikina New York will bring award-winning photographs, photo walks, portfolio reviews, talks, gear checks, and more to New York’s Lower East Side October 16-18.

Fujifilm’s Fujikina events are a global celebration of photography that brings together the latest gear along with well-known photographers and award-winning photos into a multi-day photography event. After teasing the event dates in July, Fujifilm North America unveiled a full list of details for the event today.

Fujikina New York 2026 will be no different – the upcoming event is already listing workshops, photo walks, and gear checks, along with both galleries of award-winning photographs and galleries that are still open for submission.

Fujifilm says the event will turn the Lower East Side into “a living gallery space” with five galleries across the event’s seven different venues. Three of those galleries are already filled with award-winning images, including Magnum: A World in Color, the World Press Photo traveling gallery of award-winners, and the International Center of Photography’s I’m So Happy You Are Here: Japanese Women Photographers from the 1950s to Now.

But, two of the planned galleries are still open for submission, which means photographers have a chance to get their work displayed at the event. The Fujifilm Community Gallery is looking for submissions on a theme of Inheritance, with applications open through August 24. Fujifilm says the gallery is a multi-genre collection looking for “photos that embody a lasting point of view—images that preserve a story, celebrate a community, document a changing world, honor an influence, or document a moment that deserves to outlive the present.”

Refractions of Identity, a gallery curated by the NYC-based Femme Photo, is also seeking submissions for images on the topic of Identity from women, femme-identifying, trans, and non-binary photographers. The deadline for submission is today, August 17.

The event is also set to include talks with several photographers, including Magnum’s Alec Soth, music photographer Janette Beckman, wedding and family photographer Alison Conklin, street photographer Derek Fahsbender, portrait photographer Gary Hughes, adventure photographer Irene Yee (@LadyLockoff), street and lifestyle photographer Jonas Rask, on-set motion picture still photographer Melina Sue Gordon, Fuji X Weekly writer Ritchie Roesch, photographer and director Scott Dunan, and nature and street photographer Tom Baumgaertel. Fujifilm says additional speakers will be announced.

Naturally, as a photo festival presented by a major camera brand, gear will be an integral part of the event, including gear demos, loaners, and gear cleaning. Fujifilm says that the focus is on photography as an art form, so photographers using any gear are welcome to attend; the gear checks and cleaning are limited to Fujifilm gear.

Fujifilm Fujikina NYC 2026 tickets are on sale now for $10 for general admission; some photowalks, workshops, and other experiences with limited spots may require an additional purchase.

The Photography & Video Show is heading back to London for 2027 – returning to the London ExCel exhibition center for four days from Saturday, March 13 to Tuesday, March 16. The show will be open from 10:00 to 17:00 every day.

Students of photography, film or related subjects (ID required) will get free entry on Monday and Tuesday if they book in advance, and professionals will also be entitled to free entry on any of the days (subject to verification). More than 150 of the biggest brands in the business will be exhibiting at the show, enabling you to chat to industry experts, watch kit demonstrations, and try out the latest gear for yourself. The full line-up of speakers and exhibitors will be revealed as they are confirmed later in the year.

And just as important as all the big names, there will be plenty of smaller exhibitors in attendance, with many new and innovative products waiting to be discovered as you explore the show floor.

Behind the Lens Theatre
This stage, sponsored by Hahnemühle Fine Art, offers insight into the techniques and stories behind images and projects, as well as inspirational sessions from world-class imaging educators in a series of talks and interviews.

In Motion Studio
A theatre for all things moving image, this is designed to offer insight into producing engaging content, storytelling, and creating projects using different video and filmmaking techniques, no matter what your level.

Creator Stage
This program is dedicated to online content creation on platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and more. Aimed both at existing and budding creators, as well as photo and video pros looking to boost their business via social channels, this stage will have talks on everything from online community building to getting started in vlogging.

Creator Playground
With a series of sets and studios, this is the place to have fun, let your imagination run riot, and create your own content!

How do you get to the show?

Getting to ExCeL couldn’t be easier nowadays, thanks to the Elizabeth Line which runs right across the centre of London from Reading and Heathrow, with stops at Liverpool Street and Paddington stations. Travel to Custom House station which is right at the entrance of the Excel exhibition center – allowing you to be in the show within five minutes of arriving. It is also on the DLR line.

A new festival celebrating authentic photography will create a one-day-only "artist’s alley" filled with mini galleries, fine art prints and photo zines in New York City this fall. The 5 Boro Foto Fest is a free-entry event that will treat guests to photos from both budding and renowned photographers on October 25.

The 5 Boro Foto Fest is more of an art show than a photography trade show, focusing more on booths filled with artists than brands with camera gear (though there will be a few of those, too).

The event invites photographers to display and sell their work in an "artist’s alley" event that invites guests to return home with wall art and zines crafted by real artists, not AI.

"I've been looking around at the world of photography and saw the threat that generative AI poses to replace us," said Chris Gampat, the founder of the 5 Boro Foto Fest, as well as the founder and Editor in Chief of The Phoblographer.

"This event is designed to remind people that photographers are capable of making your jaw drop with moments that you don’t even notice every day."

The 5 Boro Foto Fest will invite guests to wander booths filled with prints, zines, books and mixed media.

Along with supporting authentic photography in an era of AI, the festival also aims to help photographers find art lovers without the pressure of algorithms, with in-person artwork.

Vendor applications are currently invite-only, but open beyond the invitations on August 01. AI-generated artwork is prohibited, but mixed media is welcome, along with photography.

"This is the start of a micro-economy that’s really needed right now in the post-social media era," Gampat adds.

"Photographers are artists, and we’re going to need to embrace that and remind people why we can’t be replaced by AI. And that requires some uncomfortable work on ourselves that’s bound to blossom into something nice."

The event will be held at Culture Lab LIC at 5-25 46th Avenue, Long Island, New York.

The 5 Boro Foto Fest is being jointly hosted by The Phoblographer, Corse Design, Mallon Productions and Culture Lab LIC.

There are camera fairs, and then there's Bièvres. Now in its 62nd year, the Foire Internationale de la Photo at Bièvres, France, is the kind of event that serious photographers put in their calendars every January, but might not tell too many people about. Word gets around anyway: visitors now come from across Europe and beyond, all united by their love of cameras and photography.

The setup is straightforward enough. On June 6-7, 2026, the small Essonne commune of Bièvres, 20km south of Paris, becomes the capital of photography for a weekend. Entry is free, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the range of what's on offer is quite extraordinary.

The market: where the real action is

For most visitors, the secondhand and antique photography market is the main event. Stallholders range from serious specialist dealers to enthusiastic collectors clearing out a spare room, and the gap between those two ends of the spectrum is where the real bargains tend to hide. This is the place to spend a Saturday afternoon turning over wooden field cameras, peering through the viewfinders of vintage Leicas, haggling over a job lot of expired film, or discovering a print process you'd never heard of before.

The sheer variety is part of the pleasure. It's not just cameras and lenses, though there are plenty of those. You'll also find advertising materials, travel photographs, family albums, cinema equipment, darkroom supplies and more here. It's photography in the broadest sense, treated as both a technical practice and a cultural artefact.

Alongside the secondhand market, a new equipment and services market brings together camera brands, film suppliers, printers and other industry players showing their latest offerings. Whether you're after a new roll film scanner or just want to stock up on darkroom paper, it's worth a walk through.

The artists' market, meanwhile, adds another dimension entirely. This is where photographers sell and show their own work, and on Sunday morning a jury, chaired this year by Bruno Dubreuil, art critic, exhibition curator and professor of photography and art history, will visit each booth. Awards are presented on Sunday afternoon, which gives the whole thing a fun, competitive edge.

Guest of honor: Jean-Christophe Béchet

Each year the fair invites a significant photographer to show work across the town, and in 2026 that honour goes to Jean-Christophe Béchet, who's lived and worked in Paris since 1990. His practice is notably restless: black-and-white and color, film and digital, 35mm and medium format, Polaroid and what he calls "photographic accidents". He's interested less in mastering a single tool than in finding the right one for each project.

Béchet will be showing two exhibitions. At the recently renovated Grange aux Fraises, Savage Materiality explores photography as a physical, tactile medium. "I have always loved fragile, random photographs," he says. "Those that blend technique and improvisation, the precision of framing and the freedom of light. Not obeying the rules but knowing them in order to bend them, to subject them to one's imagination." The photograph, he suggests, becomes through the developed print "an art of materiality": something more object than image.

His second exhibition, Macadam Colour, at the Maison des Photographes et de l'Image, brings together 30 years of color street photography. Covering architecture and human behaviour, the built environment and the people who inhabit it, it's a body of work that captures, as the fair puts it, "the spirit of an era and the identity of a place".

Talks and workshops 

The Bièvres Encounters programme runs across both days, with talks and presentations from photographers including François Abbe, Thierry Chantegret, Laura Bonnefous, Eric Delamarre and José Nicolas, alongside specialists in technique, equipment and travel photography. Each session includes a Q&A.

Juste un Labo will be running a mobile darkroom on site, with black-and-white development and printing workshops every two hours, a Saturday portrait session using a box camera, and a Sunday photowalk. Booking is recommended at justeunlabo.fr/bievres from 7 May.

There's also a pop-up studio on the Sunday, run by Photoclub members with support from AllPages Epson Photo Expert, where you can leave with a free professional print. And if you'd like to take something of the fair's history home with you, there's a canvas tote bag featuring the poster from the 1973 fair, available for €8.

Bièvres is 20km from central Paris and 17km from the Porte d'Orléans, accessible via the A6/A10 or the D-906. Free parking is available on Saturday afternoon and Sunday at the Burospace site, with free shuttle buses running to the fair. It's also reachable by RER C. The Photography & Video Show is in full swing with all the biggest names in the world of photo, video, and content creation showing off their latest gear. Canon has some pretty incredible VR tech, you can try Fujifilm’s GFX Eterna medium format cinema camera, and Loawa has some crazy magnification macro probe lenses – but my highlight is already Samsung’s Creator Playground.

The Creator Playground is always a regular attraction at the show, but this year it’s bigger and better than ever, with an entire globetrotting photo experience, and even a quick trip into outer space – take that Katy Perry.

Starting off in Europe, the trail kicks off in my home city of London, where you can pop into one of the city’s iconic red phone boxes. After that, take a quick bike tour through the orange groves of Spain before heading further through the Mediterranean, and living your own Mamma Mia fantasies on your private Greek island.

Next, it's a quick hop over to the Americas. Wrap up warm for some tobogganing while the snow falls in Canada, throw down some chips in Las Vegas, before finishing in Mexico for some Day of the Dead celebrations.

A quick visit to Asia lets you head through India on a rickshaw before ending up in South Korea for some noodles under fluorescent lights.

Head next to the Middle East and a Moroccan tea house, before heading over to Africa and taking your jeep out on safari, where you can tick off two of the big five. Finish your world tour down under in a tropical paradise before hitting up an Australian BBQ.

Finally, suit up and blast off into outer space!

It's as rare as the proverbial rocking horse poop, but the Ricoh GR IV Monochrome is on the show floor at The Photography & Video Show – open now until Tuesday March 17 at the NEC in Birmingham, England.

Launched in January, and technically on sale in mid-February, the street-oriented compact camera has been such a hit that some pre-orders won't be delivered until June. But if you make the trip to the NEC, you can try the camera for yourself at the Ricoh Pentax stand (C100).

As a big fan of cameras for black-and-white photography, I've been super excited to get my hands on the GR IV Monochrome – which, in case you missed it, takes the streetwise experience of the standard Ricoh GR IV but replaces the color sensor with a 25.74MP mono sensor.

By omitting the color filter array, and removing the interpolation process used to render a full-color image, the sensor delivers incredible clarity and micro-contrast – and also promises great performance at higher ISO sensitivities.

The compromise is that there is less headroom for exposing highlights, so you'll need to beware clipping if you're not used to shooting with an exclusively black-and-white sensor.

Because the camera I "liberated" from the Ricoh stand was a pre-production model, I can't share the images from my initial test. But I used it for typically GR run-and-gun reportage shots and was impressed with the tones and rendering produced by this camera.

Having spent a lot of time with the far larger and far more expensive Leica Q3 Monochrom, I have to say that I actually prefer the depth of the blacks and the overall punchiness of the Ricoh.

I've not always worked at Digital Camera World; before that I published books about photography, and shot video with flying cameras. That means I've never left the photography scene, and I've attended photo trade shows in New York, Germany, and more. But the best moment is always the opening of the show we still affectionately call "TPS."

These days it's "The Photography and Video Show," and, as a journalist, my role is more about meeting people, but way back I was also an exhibitor. When I worked for a well-known print publisher, I brought hundreds of books in boxes from offices in Brighton, and colleagues of mine and I would rush in and out of the hall, putting up display boards we'd just had printed, carefully arranging leaflets detailing our special show offers, and generally.

It's fun to be an exhibitor because it changes the work patterns, and because you get to meet your customers face-to-face. And that makes you a better business person – I honestly think that, as a publisher, I helped produce better books because I met so many photographers in real life. Professional, enthusiast, beginner, and many who only concentrate on social.

There is also one magical moment at the show, given an extra bit of spice this year as the show returns to its "spiritual home" – Hall 5 of the NEC. The countdown.

Those of us lucky enough to be involved in the running of the show, or the running of a stand, are inside the hall as it happens, while the arriving photographers can wait in a lobby.

There is a giant screen above the entrance, offering glimpses to the waiting visitors of the hall they're about to get into, but, unlike a football stadium, they're not stuck in the same place when the whistle goes.

When the timer counts down, the gateway between the industry and the people that give life to that industry is taken away. People flood into the room.

The atmosphere is electric. People are grabbing deals. Chatting. Looking at things they wouldn't usually look at.

As I stood there capturing this video with a 360-degree camera people waved, some remembered me from the past.

It's not too late to be part of The Photography and Video Show 2026 this year, either as the four-day exhibition continues until Tuesday.

With more than 15,000 members, SheClicks has become one of the most influential UK networks for female photographers and shooters who identify as women.

And the women-led photography community is returning to The Photography & Video Show 2026 – you can say hello at stand C66 or watch the SheClicks Awards live on March 14 from 14:00 on the Analogue Stage.

This year's stand is – again – a welcoming space for women to connect, ask questions, and feel part of something bigger.

Founded by photography journalist Angela Nicholson, SheClicks was created to offer something many women felt was missing: a friendly, supportive environment where photographers of all levels could share work, get technical advice, and celebrate achievements without judgment.

MWC 2026 has kicked off! As one of the most significant events in the mobile phone industry, MWC traditionally showcases a vast array of new handsets, all vying for the title of best camera phone.

We already previewed several new devices featured at this year's exhibition, held in the vibrant city of Barcelona (and a few that might be launched at competing events). However, with the show doors now open, there are plenty more surprises as manufacturers offer peeks of their latest innovations.

What is MWC 2026?  

MWC stands for Mobile World Congress, and is the world's largest expo on the mobile industry. It's also where a lot of big-name phone brands debut their latest products, as well as teasing concept devices for the future.

MWC was first held in 1987 in Brussels, switching cities every year, before settling in Barcelona's Fira de Barcelona since 2008. The event is organized by the GSMA, the global industry association, first formed in 1995 to promote the first 2G GSM digital phones. In 2025, MWC attracted over 109,500 visitors to its exhibition halls from all around the globe. There have also been additional MWC spin-off shows in Shanghai, Kigali, and Las Vegas.

When is MWC 2026?

MWC 2026 takes place in Barcelona from Monday, March 2, to Thursday, March 5. The halls are open to visitors from 8.30am to 7pm on the first three days, and from 8.30am to 4pm on the final day.

But there will be lots of speeches from leading industry figures. Many of the sessions will be centered on the themes of the 5G and 6G, eSIM, mobile security, the Internet of Things, and, of course, Gen AI. As ever, the keynotes and industry sessions will discuss how cellular technology can be used in much, much more than just our phones.

What to expect at MWC 2026

Thanks to the ever-churning rumor mill and the inevitable teasers from the key manufacturers, we already had a pretty good idea what the highlights will be at this year's expo.

Most of the biggest names in the industry will be there, although Apple and Samsung are the two notable handset manufacturers who do not reveal new products at MWC – but this year, both have their own rival events to steal the MWC spotlight.

Apple at MWC 2026

Like every other year, Apple has no plans to directly take part in MWC 2026 – but – that doesn't mean it doesn't have plans to hijack the entire event with its own events throughout the week.

Apple has unveiled its first devices of the week with a new iPhone 17e – Apple's cheapest way into the iPhone ecosystem – which brings a new processor, MagSafe support, and double the base storage. Full details below.

However, Apple isn't done yet, with at least one more reveal due later this week. Not much is known about what exactly Apple has up its sleeve, but there are rumors abound that it has been gestating its first foldable iPhone for some time now, and might finally be ready to show the world. Apple's entry into the foldable market would certainly be monumental for the industry and surely catapult the foldable category into the mainstream.

Honor at MWC 2026

Fresh off becoming the fastest-growing smartphone brand in 2025, Honor has plenty of big announcements at MWC to keep the momentum going.

Honor has replaced its flagship folding phone a little earlier than expected. The Honor Magic V6 is set to take over from the Honor Magic V5, which was only launched around six months ago. Honor clearly sees foldables as a category it can stake a claim in. There is a new 200MP camera system borrowed from the Honor Magic 8 Pro, an improved 7,000mAh+ battery, and the latest Qualcomm chip.

Honor has also been teasing its Honor Robot concept gimbal camera device for the last few months, and we've now seen it up close at MWC. With Insta360 and Vivo set to enter the gimbal camera market that is currently dominated by DJI's Osmo Pocket 3, Honor's concept device comes at an exciting time, although it's still unclear if it become a mass-market reality.

Leica at MWC 2026

Leica is a suprise addition to this years MWC. We might be used to co-designing Xiaomi cameras, but this year it has a phone all of it's own. Leica is bringing it's previous Japanese exclusive Leitzphone line of phones to more markets.

The new 'Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi' is Leica's interpretation of the 'Xiaomi 17 Ultra by Leica', with a more Leica-centric design in line with thier cameras, a rotatable lens ring, and some classic Leica camera and lens emulation in the camera app. Read the full story below.

Nothing at MWC 2026

Nothing has its press conference booked in for March 5 at 10.30am GMT (05.30am EST / 02.30am PST) – although it is skipping the halls of MWC and heading to Nothing's home city of London for the announcement.

Nothing has already teased the Phone (4a) with Nothing's unique signature transparent design and brand new pink and blue colors. This will be the sequel to Nothing's budget-friendly Phone (3a), and from the early teases, it will include three cameras and Nothing's hallmark glyph lighting. The full announcement will be on March 5.

Last year, Nothing also announced a (3a) Pro version alongside the more vanilla option. While we don't have any official teasers yet, rumors point to Nothing launching sequels to both devices again this year, so watch this space!

Oppo at MWC 2026

Oppo is coming off one of its strongest years yet, with the Find X9 Pro being DCW's top phone of 2025.

Oppo has revealed that the next generation of Ultra phone is coming soon, following in the footsteps of last year's sensationally good, but Chinese-exclusive, Oppo Find X8 Ultra – but this time, it will be launched more internationally, with a European launch confirmed. These devices tend to come out a little later in spring; perhaps we might see a few more teasers before the show is over.

Otherwise, Oppo is not showing anything at MWC, but it was around MWC last year that Oppo released the Oppo Find N5 – at the time, the thinnest book-style foldable. We haven't yet got any conclusive leaks, but could MWC 2026 bring the next generation of Oppo's foldable phone – and will it finally be available in more markets?

Samsung at MWC 2026

Like most years, Samsung is forgoing any large-scale announcements at MWC 2026 and is instead grabbing its own spotlight before the show kicks off.

Samsung has just hosted its own Galaxy Unpacked event, where it debuted its latest 2026 flagships – the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, as well as the Galaxy S26 and Plus models.

The phones have all-around camera updates, but the headline feature is a very cool-looking privacy screen mode for hiding sensitive information, and of course, there is lots and lots of new AI. Check out more in our hands-on below.

Vivo at MWC 2026

Vivo has confirmed the first details of its upcoming flagship X300 Ultra – and Vivo is bringing the phone to more markets, with a European launch confirmed for later in the year.

The Vivo X300 Ultra will come with a brand new 400mm Zeiss lens attachment that combined with the 200MP telephoto sensor, Vivo claims can shoot up to a lossless 1600mm! The design is still under wraps at MWC, with the phone appearing only behind it's newly announced pro camera cage. We're expecting more details soon.

Xiaomi at MWC 2026

Xiaomi has already unveiled both its Xiaomi 17 Series and Xiaomi 17 Ultra phones in its Chinese home market, but now it has launched both phones globally.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra utilizes another huge 1-inch sensor, but this model is updated with LOFIC technology, which increases how much light the sensor can hold for improved night photography and HDR. That's not all, the phone also comes with a newly designed mechanical optical zoom – just like a proper camera zoom lens – which can physically move between 75mm and 100m. Xiaomi has also launched it's latest iPad challengers – the Pad 8 and Pad 8 Pro bringing new chips, a larger battery, and an updated workstation mode – alongside a new floating keyboard – to make the tablet experience more like a laptop.

Hailing from Norway but now based in Perthshire, Scotland, Espen Helland is a wildlife and conservation photographer and videographer.

With an MSc in Wildlife and Conservation, Espen spent five years working as an ecologist in Scotland and uses his camera as a tool for conservation, sharing its incredible wildlife through photos and videos. You can find him on YouTube and he also runs in-person workshops.

Fujikina, Fujifilm's traveling photography show, is coming to London, UK, and Cologne, Germany, this September. In addition to pimping Fujifilm products, there will be expert talks, photowalks, and masterclasses.

The roadshow will be in Cologne on the weekend of September 27-28, 2025. Single-day tickets cost €10 and a weekend ticket €15, with doors opening 10am-6pm daily. Fujikina Cologne takes place at Flora Cologne, Am Botanical Garden 1a, 50735 Cologne. You can find everything you need to know about the event and buy your tickets at the dedicated Fujikina Cologne area of Fujifilm's website (don't worry if your Deutsch isn't up to scratch, there's an option to view most of the information in English).

Londoners have the chance to visit the Fujikina London event over a massive eight days, with the roadshow running from Thursday, 18 September to Sunday, 21 September, and from Thursday, 25 September to Sunday, 28 September. For the London event, general admission tickets cost £10 on September 18, 19, and 25 (note that there are no seminars or panels on these dates) or £20 on September 20, 21, 26, 27, and 28. Doors open 11am-8pm daily.

Fujikina London will take place at the Fujifilm House of Photography (8-9 Long Acre, London WC2E 9LH, nearest tube Covent Garden) and nearby venues a short walk away. Full information and tickets are available from the Fujikina London area of the website.

Most talks and panel discussions are included with entry to both the Cologne and London shows, but selected workshops and photowalks have an additonal fee. Although it's unlikely we'll see any new products announced at either of these Fujikina events, it could be your first chance to see the Fujifilm GFX Eterna cinema camera and 32-90mm Power Zoom lens, both of which are scheduled for a September announcement.

The Cologne and London dates follow other European Fujikina events that ran earlier this year in Prague, Milan, Brussels, and Arles, as well as Cebu, in the Philippines.

Trade shows are all about seeing the gear of tomorrow, today. But it seems that some visitors at a major imaging show weren't willing to wait to get their hands on the cameras of the future.

The Shanghai International Photographic Equipment and Digital Imaging Exhibition, known as P&I Shanghai, recently wrapped up after running from July 17 to 19, 2025. As one of Asia's major photo and imaging expos, the halls were filled with everything from the latest cameras and lenses to lighting systems, AI video tools, printing technologies, and more.

The event attracted thousands and thousands of professional visitors… and apparently some thieves. After the event, reports began circulating on Chinese social media about incidents of high-end gear going missing. The Federation of Independent Photographers posted on Weibo:

"Too bold! According to reports, there were many thefts of photographic equipment at the recent Shanghai Photographic Equipment Exhibition. The thefts were specifically targeted at the exhibition booths. They were organized, premeditated, and targeted." (Translated with Deepl.com.)

The post goes on to state that Nikon camera bodies and Meike cinema lenses (specifically 16mm and 135mm optics) were among the items stolen. One eyewitness described how a thief was caught by an "uncle" – likely a reference to a police officer stepping in.

I want to highlight that at the time of writing, these thefts haven't been confirmed by any mainstream media outlet, the exhibitor or the brands themselves.

Major industry events have always carried an underlying risk, simply because of the value of what's on display. Expensive gear is left out in the open, massive crowds flow through the halls, and there's a general assumption that the gear is in a safe, professional environment.

There were many incidents in the past, like at the IFA Consumer Electronics Show in Berlin, where a man was caught stealing directly from an exhibitor's booth, reported by PC World. And a bit of a different story, but I remember the shocking news back in 2017 when Sony lost an entire truckload of gear en route to the NAB show in Las Vegas, highlighted by CanonRumors.

It changed a lot. Many organizers have since stepped up their security with bag checks, surveillance and tighter access control, but those measures often only address smaller-scale risks. Organized thefts targeting exhibitor booths (often in the after-hours of the event) are a bit of a different story.

And unfortunately, the combination of prestige, technology and visibility makes shows like P&I Shanghai an ideal target. Rest assured, if there are any official statements following, you will be able to read them here.

Bild Expo 2025 is now open for business! Taking place today and tomorrow at the Javits Center in New York, it is "NYC’s largest gathering of photographers, content creators, and filmmakers – two electrifying days of inspiration and education."

Labeling this as a "New York show" does it a huge disservice, as Bild has rapidly established itself as the premier photography and videography exhibition in the United States.

Presented by New York super retailer B&H Photo Video, Bild Expo 2025 is host to hundreds of exhibitors, speakers, presentations, photo walks, giveaways and exclusive show deals. Here's what you need to know about the show…

What is Bild?

Debuting in 2023, Bild Expo has filled the void left by the PhotoPlus show to become the definitive destination for photographers, videographers, content creators and filmmakers.

This year the event welcomes over 250 of the the biggest brands in imaging, including Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fujifilm, OM System, Hasselblad, Leica, Panasonic and Sigma.

In addition, over 100 speakers are hosting talks, presentations, demonstrations and photo walks. Among the headliners are names like Peter Hurley, Peter McKinnon, Cristina Mittermeier, Scott Kelby, Pressley Hosbach and Drex Lee.

First up is a brand new camera, the OM System OM-5 Mark II. In my review I call it "an exceptional enthusiast camera that's built for adventure – and it's the perfect outdoor companion for those who want to forget the filters and leave the tripod at home, but still get great results."

Then there's a great new APS-C lens, the Sigma 17-40mm f/1.8 DC | A. My colleague Matthew said in his review: "to create this lens with such excellent handling, image quality and all-round performance, in such a compact and lightweight build, and at a knockdown price point is a mighty achievement. It’s a fabulous lens that really does take the place or three or even four primes, and is something rather special."

We've also seen the launch of the Peak Design Pro Tripods. Our US Editor Hillary has already tried them and says the new line "finds that sweet spot between stability and portability. Here's my pick of the new products that will be on display at the show, and it's likely to be the first chance that most of us have to get hands-on with these exciting shiny new bits of kit. I can't wait to check them out for myself!

1. Sigma BF

Milled from a solid block of aluminum, this concept camera has minimalist controls and, with 320GB of internal storage, foregoes the need for memory cards. It has to rank as the coolest camera ever. But it's not just beautiful to behold; inside it houses a 24.6Mp full-frame sensor, 8fps shooting rate and fast, accurate autofocus.

2. Nikon Coolpix P1100

The follow-up to the ever-popular Coolpix P1000, this bridge camera houses a frankly ridiculous 24-3000mm-equivalent zoom lens. Like its forebear, it will be popular with wildlife photographers and includes improved autofocus in Bird-Watching mode to make getting sharp shots of our feathered friends easier than ever.

3. OM System OM-3

This dinky little camera looks like a retro old-school DSLR in miniature, but houses a Micro Four Thirds 20.4Mp sensor, 6.5-stop IBIS, 120fps shooting rate, and is packed with computational photography tech that results in the most versatile and creative options of any camera on the market.

4. Sigma 300-600mm f/4 DG OS

Coined the "dream lens", the 300-600mm f/4 promises the optical performance of a 600mm prime lens with the versatility of a super-telephoto zoom, and boasts 5.5 stops of optical stabilization and offers drop-in filters. It will be available in L-Mount and E-Mount.

5. Nikon Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ

This cine-focused lens offers a constant aperture through a generous zoom range, and Power Zoom functionality that enables smooth, remote-controlled zooming, making it the perfect lens for documentary filmmaking, location work, and run-and-gun videography.

6. Sony FE 400-800mm f/6.3-8 G OSS

The ultra-telephoto zoom stretches to a gargantuan 800mm – which can be doubled to 1600mm with a 2x teleconverter. It features built-in stabilization and extensive weather sealing, and has a pair of precision linear motors that ensure autofocus can keep up with the Sony A9 III's 120fps burst speed.

7. Sigma 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 DC OS

The world's first mirrorless lens with 18.8x zoom. The 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 is an APS-C lens with a 35mm equivalent focal range of 24-400mm, and offers 6 stops of optical image stabilization at the wide end, and 4.5 stops at the telephoto. Competitively priced, it is coming in Canon RF-Mount, L-Mount, E-Mount, and Fujifilm X-Mount.

8. Nikon Z 35mm f/1.2 S

This fast, wide prime joins the Nikon Z 50mm f/1.2 S and Nikon Z 85mm f/1.2 S to complete Nikon's trinity of super-fast f/1.2 lenses that are designed to extract every last micron of performance from Nikon’s best Z system cameras, as well as being one of the best Nikon Z lenses in its own right.

9. EIZO ColorEdge CG2400S

For high-precision color work, EIZO's new 24.1in monitor has a built-in colorimeter, and boasts 98% DCI-P3 and 99% AdobeRGB color space coverage. It is EIZO's first 24.1-inch CG-series monitor to support hybrid log-gamma (HLG) transfer function and perceptual quantization (PQ) curve for displaying and editing HDR content. I'm looking forward to finding out what that actually means!

10. Vanguard Alta Pro 3VLT 304CT

Vanguard will be showing off its Alta Pro 3VL 304CT carbon fiber tripod, which offers a huge 13kg load capacity and a built-in levelling base to support weighty, professional video equipment. Despite its impressive load rating, the tripod only weighs 1.43kg and folds down to just 560mm long, making it supremely portable.

The winners of this year's prestigious London Camera Exchange (LCE) Photographer of the Year 2025 competition are to be revealed live on stage at The Photography & Video Show 2025. The big reveal is due to take place on Sunday, March 9, at 3.45pm on the Creator Stage, so make a date in your diary for what is sure to be a highlight of the show.

The LCE Photographer of the Year is open to non-professional photographers worldwide and has a prize pool of £10,000 ($12,700).

The competition has a total of 14 categories, with genres as diverse as pets, portraits, music, and macro photography. Now in its second year, the competition introduces a new category for 2025, the ‘Emerging Talent’ award for photography students, with a prize awarded to both the photographer and their university or college.

Here is a small selection of shortlisted images from the competition, but come and see them all for yourself, as once the winners and runners-up have been announced, they will be on display in an exhibition for the duration of the four-day Show.

More than 10,000 images were entered into the competition, wowing the judges with their creativity and diversity of content – from high-velocity action shots to sublime portraits and vivid wildlife scenes. The panel of judges revealing the award winners comprises Digital Camera World's very own content director Chris George, professional photojournalist Peter Dench, SheClicks founder and journalist Angela Nicholson, and LCE's managing director Lee Harasyn.

Each of the category winners receives a trophy and £500 ($635) of vouchers to spend at LCE, while the winner takes home a £3,000 ($3,815) voucher – and they'd be wise to take it straight across to the LCE's stand at location D100 to use it to secure one or two of the retailer's famous show bargains!

Established in Guildford in 1956, London Camera Exchange has grown to be the UK’s premier specialist photographic retailer, with 26 nationwide high street locations. MWC 2025 will open its doors next week - so what are we expecting to see? MWC is one of the biggest shows on planet when it comes to mobile phones, and usually it is a place where a myriad of new handsets get launched, all wanting to top the best camera phone list. 

We already have a pretty good idea of some of the new handsets that will be at the annual exhibition, which is held annually in the Spanish port of Barcelona. But there are bound to be some surprises as the manufacturers and networks give sneak peaks of their latest tech…

What is MWC 2025?  

MWC stands for Mobile Word Congress - and is organized by the GSMA, the global industry association, first formed in 1995 to promote the first 2G GSM digital phones. The show itself was first held in 1987, and in 2024  attracted over 101,000 visitors, from 205 countries and territories to the Fira Barcelona Gran Via exhibition halls. There are now additional MWC spin-off shows in Shanghai, Kigali and Las Vegas.

When is MWC 2025?

It takes place in Barcelona from Monday March 3  to Thursday March 6. The halls are open to visitors from 8.30am to 7pm on the first three days, and from 8.30am to 4pm on the final day. 

But there will be lots of speeches from leading industry figures. Many of the sessions will be centered on the themes of the 5G and 6G, eSIM, mobile security, the Internet of Things, and, of course, Gen AI. As ever, the keynotes and industry sessions will discuss how cellular technology can be used in much, much more than just our phones.

And we will be bringing you all the news, as and if it happens…

What we expect at MWC 2025

Thanks to the  rumor mill and the inevitable teasers from the key manufacturers, we already had a pretty good idea what some of the highlights will be at this year's expo. As ever Apple and Samsung are the most notable handset manufacturers who do not reveal new products at MWC.

Below are some of the things we know about, and are excited about, coming at MWC 2025 - but we will be regularly updating this as we hear and see more of what is being announced.

Xiaomi at MWC 2025

Xiaomi will use MWC to launch its 15 Ultra phone - but we already know a fair amount abou this. For us, the Leica cameras are the big story. The main camera will run on a 1in 50MP sensor, and there is a big upgrade for the telephoto lens. This will use a 200MP Samsung 1/1.4” sensor paired with an f/1.4 aperture - offering a focal length that is equivalent to a tradition 100mm.

Oppo at MWC2025

Oppo may well have already revealed its biggest news - with the announcement that the global launch of the Oppo Find N5. This is the world's thinnest bi-fold foldable - which you can read all about in our full review.

Nothing at MWC2025

Nothing has its press conference pencilled in for March 4 - and we expect that at last they will finally announce the full details for the Nothing Phone (3a) series of handsets, which we are told will feature a periscope camera.

This festival of all things still and moving images runs for four days at the ExCeL exhibition center at London’s Royal Victoria Dock. The Photography & Video Show 2025 is to publicly display a selection of images of the 1948 Olympic Games for the first time. The monochrome square-format photos were discovered on a roll of film handed into the Disabled Photographer's Society at the previous year's show, which the Society subsequently had developed and was startled to find that it contained the historic photographs taken more than 75 years previously.

As we previously reported, who took the photographs remains a mystery, despite the Disabled Photographic Society's best efforts to trace the owner of the undeveloped film roll. The roll was handed in by an anonymous member of the public to the Society's stand at the Photography & Video Show 2024, which it uses to trade all manner of donated vintage photography equipment as a fundraiser. The stall is definitely worth popping by if you're visiting the show, as you never know what you might turn up.

Visitors to The Photography & Video Show 2025 will have the chance to see these captivating images and witness a piece of sporting history for themselves at a special gallery area of the show. In addition to the vintage 1948 Olympics images, the gallery area will host exhibitions from the LCE Photographer of the Year Awards, Cewe Photo Award, SheClicks Awards, Sony World Photography Awards, Felt Photographic Gallery, and The Week Junior Science + Nature Scavenger Hunt Photo Competition.

The countdown to the Photography and Video Show 2025 has officially begun, with the first wave of exciting guest speakers announced!

Taking place on March 8-11, 2025 at the ExCel London, The Photography & Video Show is the largest event for photographers and content creators in the UK, and presents attendees with a chance to get hands-on with the latest photo and video equipment, showcased by the biggest brands in the industry.

In addition, the show always delivers inspiring talks and workshops by some of the world's biggest talents. The first wave of guest speakers already includes everything from fashion photography to cinematic vlogging providing something for everyone.

Among the announced speakers is fashion and beauty photographer and leading educator – Lindsay Adler. Lindsay Adler's fashion editorials have graced the pages of the largest publications in the world including Vogue, Marie Claire, Numero, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vanity Fair. Canon recognises Adler's exceptional photography style by Canon adding her to its prestigious Explorers of Light list, while she is also a Profoto Legend of Light. She uses the platforms to share and educate.

I highly recommend attending a Lindsay Adler talk as she has a wealth of technical knowledge, from lighting to posing and everything in between. Seeing a demonstration firsthand will undoubtedly let you leave with some additional knowledge (and perhaps help you decide what to add to your kit bag!)

Another name on the list is Scott Kelby, a photographer, educator, and author of over 100 books! These books cover instructional editing manuals for Lightroom and Photoshop, photographic techniques, and his landmark book The Digital Photography Book, the top-selling book on digital photography ever.

Canadian photographer and adventurer David duChemin has also been announced. His stunning photography focuses on the wilder side of life, from the local Canadian wildlife of bears, wolves, and eagles to the shepherds in the mountains of Lesotho. David duChemin features on the latest The Photography & Video Show Podcast where he discusses his practice in greater detail!

The Photography & Video Show 2025 will showcase some of the latest cameras from Sony, Fujifilm, Canon, and Nikon, not to mention hundreds of other brands!

Nikon USA describes its ambassador program as a 'group of influential visual artists and leaders in modern photography and videography', and four new names have been added to the prestigious list.

In addition to making some of the best mirrorless cameras on the market, through its ambassador program, Nikon has created a group of professionals at the very top of the game who are committed to sharing knowledge and guidance with the photography and video community.

Previously the ambassador program has been centred around photography, however, Nikon now states, "As our industry continues to evolve, the Ambassador program will stay ahead of the curve by embracing cinematic and multimedia production, and a broader spectrum of visual storytelling". A clear message as to the direction that Nikon is heading.

The four new ambassadors are D’Ann Boal, Alex Gorosh, and the creative duo, Benjamin and Natasha Davis, and their disciplines span both photography and videography.

D’Ann Boal (AKA Smitten & Swoon) is a portrait photographer recognized for her golden hour tones and dreamy aesthetic. Based in Boulder, Colorado, USA, Boal specializes in child and family portraiture in the natural landscape in which she is situated. In addition to her photography, she is also a workshop instructor, mentor, and speaker.

The second inductee is Alex Gorosh, a commercial and documentary filmmaker from LA, USA. Gorosh has made a habit of making viral movies out of seemingly 'not-so-approachable subjects', such as electronic waste and the cashmere industry.

Last but not least husband-and-wife creative team Benjamin and Natasha Davis. Based in New Jersey, USA the duo stands as the team behind Yamean Studios, acclaimed wedding filmmakers and storytellers. The Davis' create beautiful-looking films that capture the intricate details of the day so that the memory of the occasion can live on and be experienced time after time.

Speaking on the four new ambassadors Nikon states, "These four new Ambassadors are well known for the significant contributions they make to modern photography and filmmaking. As part of their responsibility as Ambassadors, they will offer a unique perspective and style that help advance the imaging industry and shape the way audiences see the world, while helping Nikon develop and respond to the evolving needs of imaging professionals".

Ricoh has officially confirmed an update on the Pentax Film Camera Project set for June 17, 4PM Eastern Time (UK 9PM) and I anticipate that this will be the day they unveil the Pentax 17 to the masses.

This announcement has also been elevated by several camera retailers, who indicate that they have already planned events for June 18, suggesting significant developments—they include B&H Photo Video, which has a scheduled live stream from the event.

B&H and Pentax are due to present an exciting discussion on the resurgence of film photography in the modern era. With film photography experiencing a remarkable revival, and Pentax’s extensive legacy in film camera development.

B&H's Nick Brigadier will be joined by Ricoh Imaging America's President Ken Curry and Technical Solutions Manager Dan Savoie for an engaging conversation about film photography.

The official website has indicated that new information regarding the film camera project will be revealed on June 18th with information suggesting that this new camera could be in store on that day too as B&H writes:

"Want to go hands-on with some film gear? Stop by the B&H SuperStore the next day, Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 11AM – 5PM for an experience with film experts and equipment. You’ll find our team on the first floor in front of checkout. If you are feeling lucky, you can join in on a raffle to win an exciting prize."

I wonder if that exciting price is a new Pentax camera by any chance? Given that a major camera retailer such as B&H has invited Ricoh's US president for a livestream, it seems very likely that this will be more than just an interim update. 

But I guess we'll find out soon enough, and you bet DCW will be reporting on it!

Fujifilm has announced that there will be an X Summit taking place in Sydney next month – and these events always herald the launch of a new camera, and possibly a new lens, and possibly new cameras and lenses plural. 

At the last X Summit in February, for example, we got the Fujifilm X100VI along with the addition of a new lens to the X System roadmap, and a new version of the X-App. And at the one prior to that, last September, we had the Fujifilm GFX 100 II and new GF tilt-shift lenses. 

So what can we expect in Sydney, at the event taking place on May 16?

Well, the first thing I think we're going to get is the aforementioned new lens that was added to the roadmap in February: the XF 16-50mm f/2.8-4.8. Described as a "new kit lens for the X Series fifth generation", it will replace the decade-old XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OI lens. 

However, a kit lens isn't reason enough to invite the world's press to Sydney for a product announcement – so we're definitely getting a camera as well.

If you've been paying attention to all the camera deals lately, you'll have noticed that the Fujifilm GFX 100S has been receiving discount after discount after discount. This month, for instance, it dropped to its lowest price ever in the UK, slashed by two grand. 

So, if you follow all the price drop dominoes, you might come to the conclusion that the announcement in Sydney will be for the GFX 100S II. How might this differ from the GFX 100 II? And how might Fujifilm approach the balance of adding more tech, without cannibalizing the USPs of the 100 II, while also giving customers a reason to choose a 100S II over the super-cheap 100S? 

Looking elsewhere in Fujifilm's lineup, there are a number of cameras that have been long overdue an update, such as the Fujifilm X-Pro3, the Fujifilm X-T30 II, Fujifilm X-A7, and maybe even the Fujifilm X-E4 – an excellent camera that appeared to be discontinued after just a year, snarled up in the global production problems caused by the pandemic.

Fujifilm is surfing some serious success this year, so it will be fascinating to see what's rolled out at the X Summit in May.

The Photography & Video Show will relocate to the ExCeL Exhibition Centre in London for the 2025 edition, which will take place between March 8 and 11. 

The show will return to the NEC in Birmingham in 2026 and will then alternate between the two venues biennially. 

This strategic move meets the evolving needs and preferences of the show’s exhibitors and visitors, and also aims to explore opportunities around new audiences.

Sigma has revealed that it will be announcing a new product(s) next week, and without any further details, it has left us with the question: what is it? 

Before product announcements, Sigma likes to keep us in suspense by launching a live YouTube video that counts down to the announcement date, which in this instance, is March 26, 2024. Rather cryptically, there are no further details or hints at what kind of product we might see on the day, but we do know when and where the presentation will occur. 

Sigma state in its video description, "From 21:00 JST [12:00 GMT / 07:00 EST] on March 26th (Tuesday), we will be broadcasting SIGMA's new product presentation live. In addition to introducing new products, we are also planning a corner where we will answer comments and questions received via chat during the broadcast, so please turn on your notification settings and watch in real time!"

Sigma is a leading Japanese imaging specialist that makes some of the best third-party lenses for mirrorless cameras on the market. Its Art, Sport, and Contemporary lens lineups have offered photographers outstanding quality glass at a more affordable entry point than native lenses. In addition, Sigma has been creating some of the industry's favorite cine lenses, with the Sigma 65mm T1.5 FF chosen as the benchmark lens for the recent Camera Assessment Test undertaken by the Giant Screen Cinema Association due to its exceptional quality.

Earlier this year Sigma released the Sigma 500mm F5.6 DG DN OS Sports and the Sigma 15mm F1.4 DG DN Diagonal Fisheye Art, two lenses that wouldn't be further apart, meaning that correctly guessing what lens is coming next, is even more difficult. 

A lens for one of these lines could well be a valid guess for the upcoming announcement but we must not forget that Sigma also produces the Sigma fp and Sigma fp L, full-frame mirrorless cameras that offer hybrid shooting features. With the Sigma fp L released in 2021, it may be time for an update. Could we see a new Sigma fp camera?

Speculating on new product launches is fun, but it won't be until next week that we get any definitive answers. The market is amid vintage overload with film and retro cameras very much in Vogue with the younger consumer, could we see a new retro compact camera to compete with the Fujifilm X100VI? Sigma's last compact camera, the dp Quattro, was introduced 10 years ago in 2014. The possibilities are endless, so we will just have to wait in excited wonder until the announcement!

When did you start out in your current photographic genre?

I shoot three genres – travel, people (portraits, beauty and fashion) and sports. I guess I really just shoot people – it’s just that some are moving very fast! I started shooting film in the 1980s, but in the early 90s, I got burned out and stopped shooting altogether. I put my studio hot lights, cameras, light meters and flashes up in my attic and didn’t touch a camera again until I held my first Nikon DSLR at a show around the year 2000, and that reignited my passion for photography.

What are your favorite aspects of talking at events like The Photography & Video Show?

I love getting to talk with other photographers from all different backgrounds, and The Photography & Video Show brings together so many photographers from many backgrounds. I also love teaching in front of a live audience. So much of what I do these days is creating online courses, but nothing beats the energy and instant feedback that you get from a live audience – especially the type of audience The Photography & Video Show brings in. They’re passionate, totally engaged and not afraid to have a good time. Plus, there’s a shared feeling that we’re all in this together – everybody is so willing to help each other, share what they know and compare tips and techniques – it’s an incredible atmosphere to teach in, making it a really special event. 

Who and what else are you excited to see at The Photography Show?

I absolutely love visiting the vendor booths and watching the demos and presentations from leading photographers. There is so much education on the show floor, and I cannot tell you how much I’ve learned from sitting in the audience at the Canon, Nikon or Sony booths, and even the smaller booths – I so look forward to that. Plus, I just like seeing the new gear. I’m a bit of a gear junkie, so this is like visiting new gear heaven, so I’ll be busy scoping out all the new goodies. I can’t wait!

What key skills are needed for your line of work?

I think a crucial skill is the ability to tell a story. We are essentially visual storytellers, and instead of a typewriter or computer, our camera is the tool we use to weave our stories, so I think having that skill is hugely important.

Outside of professional assignments, what are your personal photo interests?

My personal photo interest is simply capturing a visual history of my wonderful family and my life, and I do most of that with my iPhone. I also want to start shooting more videos this year, especially when I’m doing a workshop.

Canon EOS R6 II 

This full-frame mirrorless camera sports a 24.2MP sensor, an advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system and excellent low-light performance at high ISO settings. It's small and lightweight, while the handling is unmistakably Canon. It's a perfect companion for travel and landscape photography. 

Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 

This superzoom lens is the ideal choice for travel photography, offering both inclusive wide-angle and telephoto focal lengths in one optic. It represents a new breed of full-frame superzoom optic, an area of the lens market traditionally reserved for APS-C and Micro 4/3 cameras. The image quality is great for everyday photography, with nice sharpness and contrast, while the aperture range remains useful even in dim light, especially when paired with an IBIS-equipped body like the EOS R6 II.

Canon RF 14- 35mm f/4L IS USM

The so-called 'trinity' lenses get all the hype, but this f/4 zoom offers excellent image sharpness, even at the edges of the frame and provides even more wideangle reach than its far more expensive Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM cousin. The IS system is also exceptional, allowing handheld shots at very low shutter speeds, which is highly useful for travel and interiors, where a tripod is not allowed. 

Tamron 150-600mm f/5-6.3

For grabbing close-up shots of athletes and sports cars, this affordable super-tele zoom enables frame-filling shots even when the subject is further away from the camera. It's perfect for athletes and track sports, as well as motorsports, allowing the photographer to capture both far and closer action, which normally requires a change of lens.

“I had an opportunity to use a Phase One camera back in 2016 and completely fell in love with the files from the very beginning. A few years ago, I was invited to be an ambassador for the brand and have been using it ever since to create many of my photography pieces. 

The camera itself forces you to slow down and observe everything for the moment or expression that you want to capture. The dynamic range has come in handy several times and, of course, the quality of the files speaks for itself. They are so beautiful and have an almost film-like texture and allure that I haven’t been able to recreate with any other camera so far.”

Nikon has announced that it is returning to The Photography & Video Show to showcase its award-winning product line-up and host a series of inspirational photography and videography talks. Meanwhile, filmmakers Keziah Quarco and Cara Brown will join Nikon School trainer Ricci Chera and Nikon Ambassador Kino in a panel discussion which explores their journey through video and filmmaking.

Nikon School trainers Neil Freeman and Ricci Chera will be on-stage throughout the show with a schedule of informative talks on a range of photography subjects to educate and inspire photographers of all abilities.

MWC 2024 will open its doors next week - so what are we expecting to see? MWC is one of the biggest shows on planet when it comes to mobile phones, and usually it is a place where a myriad of new handsets get launched, all wanting to top the best camera phone list. 

The good news is that the exhibition is back and live and at full strength in its traditional February slot - following three years of disruption from Covid-19 in 2020, 2021 and 2022. In 2023, the show was pretty much back to normal - and we are hoping it will be bigger and better than ever.

 There are lots of new products already scheduled to launch at the show - and no doubt there will be some surprise announcements too.

What is MWC 2024?  

MWC stands for Mobile Word Congress - and is organized by the GSMA, the global industry association, first formed in 1995 to promote 2G GSM digital phones. The show was first held in 1987, and in 2023 attracted over 88,000 to the Fira Barcelona Gran Via exhibition halls in Barcelona, Spain. There are now additional MWC spin-off shows in Shanghai, Kigali and Los Angeles.

When is MWC 2024?

It takes place in Barcelona from Monday February 26 to Thursday February 29. The halls are open to visitors from 8.30am to 7pm on the first three days, and from 8.30am to 4pm on the final day. 

But there will be lots of speeches from leading industry figures. Many of the sessions will be centered on the themes of the 5G and 6G, the Internet of Things, and, of course, AI. As ever, the keynotes and industry sessions will discuss how cellular technology can be used in much, much more than just our phones.

And we will be bringing you all the news, as and if it happens…

What we expect at MWC 2024

Thanks to the  rumor mill and the inevitable teasers from the key manufacturers, we already had a pretty good idea what some of the highlights will be at this year's expo. As ever Apple and Samsung are the most notable handset manufacturers who do not reveal new products at MWC.

Below are some of the things we know about, and are excited about, coming at MWC 2024 - and we will be regularly updating this as we hear and see more of what is being announced.

Xiaomi at MWC 2024

By the time MWC begins, Xiaomi would have announced full details of its 14 Series family of phones - but the Chinese company will give the new handsets a European launch on the first day of the show. 

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is the most exciting of the set - and we have seen a number of its key features being teased. It again has a Leica main camera but this uses a newer Sony sensor, and is coupled with a faster lens. Also on board there are two telephoto zooms - one being dedicated to portraits, and the other being a 5x periscope. Available in black or white, a novel feature is that it has an artificial leather back panel - so hopefully won't slip off a table as easily as most new phones!  See our full news story

Energizer at MWC 2024

Best know for its batteries, Energizer sells a range of budget-priced phones. The company is teasing something special, however, for MWC 2024. The Energizer P28K boasts to have the most powerful built-in battery of any phone in the world - with a phenomenal 28,000mAh capacity. See our full story

Motorola at MWC

MWC has become synonymous with showing us wacky concept devices - and this year, we will be paying special attention to Motorola in this regard. Last October, at Lenovo Tech World, it showed us its bendable phone. Using its Adaptive Display, the device can literally be curled up - so that it can be worn on your wrist like a smartwatch, or be propped up in a way that means so it can stand on its own for handsfree voice calls. It feels like this tech is a long way in the future - or pure fable - but we love the idea.

Honor at MWC2024

Honor has its press conference on the day before the show starts - and here the company will reveal its Magic6 Series of phones - including its photo-centric Magic6 Pro flagship. We'll also see the official European launch of the Honor Magic V2. We are also told that it will have a second phone designed in collaboration with Porsche. 

Nothing at MWC2024

Nothing has its press conference pencilled in for February 27 - and we hope that at last they will finally announce the launch of its long-teased Nothing Phone 2a handset. This is billed as a budget-priced alternative to the Nothing Phone (2), and the original Nothing Phone (1).

Sony has revealed its speaker lineup for The Photography & Video Show – the UK's largest event for professional and enthusiast image makers, taking place 16-19 March at the NEC in Birmingham, England.

Two speakers that I am particularly excited by are Alice Greenfield and Hannah Couzens. Alice is a video expert and will be giving a talk titled One Shot: The Story of an Adventurous Commercial Shoot, where she will share the process of working on a commissioned brief in a detailed and transparent way, providing valuable insight into what goes into a professional video shoot. 

Hannah's talk will be just as inspiring, offering tips and insights into directing portrait subjects in her talk titled Perfecting your Portraits – How to Direct your Subject with Confidence.

The best Sony cameras include everything from the best cameras for beginners to  the best professional cameras.

Fujifilm is teasing a new camera – and teasing that it will be announced at its upcoming X Summit, taking place in Tokyo on February 20. 

A 16-second teaser video has been uploaded to Fujifilm's YouTube and social media channels around the world, depicting a camera in silhouette with the text "See you soon". You can see some of the videos embedded below.

The camera has been carefully blacked out, save for a silver of silver on the top plate. The shape suggests a compact camera, as the outline does not match the silhouette of the X-Series Fujifilm cameras styled after SLRs, and looks too compact to be a GFX medium format camera. 

"See you in TOKYO!! 🇯🇵 Please tune in to X Summit TOKYO 2024 on the FUJIFILM X Series YouTube Channel on February 20th," posted Fujifilm Canada on Instagram.

"See you in TOKYO! Please stay tuned for X Summit TOKYO 2024," wrote Fujifilm US, and "Not long now... See you in Tokyo," said Fujifilm UK all using the hashtag #XSummitTokyo2024.

The Fujifilm Japan Instagram threw in a few more tags for good measure. "Tuesday, February 20th from 14:30 on YouTube channel. X Summit TOKYO 2024 live streaming! Fujifilm confirmed the X Summit earlier this month, where it also noted that this year is the company's 90th anniversary.

Taking place on February 20, the Tokyo X Summit is just days before and a few miles away from the monolithic CP+ 2024 – being held in Yokohama from February 22-25.

Since CP+ is traditionally host to a number of big camera announcements (this year expected to include a new flagship camera from Canon), it makes sense for Fujifilm to reveal its latest product a little earlier for maximum fanfare.

Sean will be talking about his recent publication in a talk by the same name, as well as holding a discussion with fellow YouTube creator Tom Heaton on their experiences teaching photography on YouTube.

Alice Greenfield

A Sony creator, Alice has an exceptional talent for video and has a passion for short-form video for social media. She will be giving a talk which will provide a detailed look at a recent commercial video shoot with a clothing brand. It's not often you get to see firsthand the creation of a commissioned brief by a leading industry professional, so this is a must-see! Alice will also be among the speakers for the Women in Film Business talk, which will highlight their experiences in the industry and generate further discussion.

This is an important part of working in the creative industry that many fall short on – I for one did. Getting dissemination advice from someone at the top of their field will be a treasure trove of tips and tricks – one not to miss!

The Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers – or SWPP – has an annual gathering in London's Hammersmith. Officially the "London Photo Video Convention and Trade Show" in the capacious Novotel London West, it opened today, so I went to check it out with DCW colleagues. It's obviously not as big as the upcoming as the UK calendar's biggest event – The Photography & Video Show at the NEC – but there was still a lot to see and the show runs until the end of Saturday 20th Jan so there is a chance check it out yourself.

Exhibitors include Sony, cradling what they told me was one of the two Sony FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lenses in the country. I was even allowed to touch it and, to be honest, despite the size, it was amazingly lightweight. As a Sony shooter myself I did wonder how far I'd get with it (but I don't think I was the first person who had that thought)!

Sony weren't the only major camera manufacturer in the hall – Canon (65-76) and FujiFilm (38-40) also both have big stands and staff on hand to give serious photographers the chance to gets hands on an extensive range of their gear.

We also checked out the SmokeNinja, which was sharing stand-space (stand 91) with Rotolight. We hope to get this exciting device for a full review soon, and not only because I was told it had been used in Hollyoaks (is that still on?) and Ghostbusters traps. The ability to switch the smoke's behaviour, not to mention the portability and USB-C charging, seem potentially very useful for creatives of many persuasions. 

With the SWPP's emphasis being on professionals, there was a lot of lighting equipment on display, though what surprised me was how accessibly priced it was and how much of it was continuous – video is now very well catered for at SWPP. We saw the new Elinchrom Three in person, and are looking forward to getting it in to review and compare with the Elinchrom One. Visitors will also appreciate the live lighting stage is an opportunity for visitors to the trade show to see the lights in action with assorted ambassadors demonstrating how to use the lights – shows like this and TPS can be a great chance to turn a hobby into an income.

Walking the halls of the exhibition space – which I couldn't help but notice was in or neat the hotel's Champagne Suite – we even came across something new to me in my many years in publishing and photography journalism – Julia Boggio. If you've not heard of her, she is an author who writes fiction about photographers which is perhaps a little racy (I've not had time to read any since I met her earlier, but she showed me the trade press had called her the "Jilly Cooper of photography novels," she's been featured on BBC Woman's Hour, and she's at the show signing books for her fans. Perhaps she even inspired a few prospective pros?

We also got our hands on with some interesting video gear, like the Obsbot Tail Air 2 which we're reviewing shortly. Obsbot also had their Tiny 2 on display.

Of course, another great reason to visit any show are the deals on offer; Park Cameras, Camera Centre UK, Photomart, and others had stands – and deals – on the show floor as well as many of the specialists, and there were some deals posted.
