A 50mm - Canon 1.8 nice image quality and cheap, even if a bit tacky made.

wide angle - sigma 10 - 22 but try it first, sigmas quality control isnt all that is desired sometimes.

telephoto - Tamron 70 - 300 VC or canon 70-200 f4, both good lenses different price brackets, depending on how much it will be your go to lens.

macro - perhaps a tokina 100mm? similar pricing to tamrons 90mm and heard very good things about the image quality

Thanks for the advise, I guess I'd better get out and see what I can do with the kit lens! Then see what I need. I also need to do some reading about photography, at the moment I'm a complete beginner!

I can highly recommend you my favorite all around lens Canon 24-105 mm USM IS F/4.
This is an amazing lens with sharp focus and very flexible focal range, isn't the fastest lens out there but the IS technology compensate for this.
