Sunset From Latrigg

Hi, I'm looking for constructive criticism (technical and/or composition) so I can improve my photography. I think these are some of my better shots - What does everyone else think?

As I'm new to using forums, if I've made the images to large, can someone tell me how to reduce the size of the images when including them in a post? Thanks

Sunset from Latigg

Hi Neil , glad to see you've found your way round the posting images issue .

I really like the balance in your first image with the branch coming in from the left looking like it's pointing into the image , the only slight alteration I may of looked at in the composition would of been to lower the camera angle to put a bit of clearance between the hills and the left hand branch .

I love the second image the lighting works really well as to does the composition , I don't know what software you use or what PP work you have done to the image but I think I would of darkened down the background a bit more so that you couldn't make out any of the items in the back .

The third image looks a bit over exposed and is suffering from a slight colour cast both of these can be sorted out very easily in PP , it's also a shame the tiger has his eyes closed but thats the luck of the draw with this type of subject .

Other than those minor points I really like the look of your work , can't wait to see more .

Mark

Hi Mak,
Thanks for the input it's much appreciated.

As for post-processing I try to keep it all to a minimum.
On these images I've done the following:

Sunset: Post-processed in elements, so not sure what the exact modifications were done, as a rough guide,
the image has been re-cropped and the contrast increased with a white balanced corrected in adobe camera raw.
I agree that the composition would be better if the left hand brach was higher, the next time I go up to the lakes I'am tempted to recompose this shot, if the tree's are still there.

Eagle: Post-processed in Lightroom 3,
The image has been re-cropped and sharpened, no other adjustments made.

Tiger: Post-porcessed in Lightroom 3
The image was taken through glass which made the image look flat so in addition to re-cropping and sharpening I also increased the vibrance, to bring the colour of the tiger back to the level of the ones taken through the wire, I think this is where the colour cast may becoming from.

I really like your sunset photo, the colours work well and the different type of branches adds interest.

The bald eagle is great. Composition works and the lighting is wonderful. But as mentioned there is s distracting object in the bottom right corner which is a shame.

I agree about the tiger photo being over exposed a bit, but think you've done well considering the photo was taken through glass. A more fearsome roar from the tiger may have made the photo more interesting, but animals don't always pay ball do they!!

Brilliant set Niel, love the tiger yawning. I agree with Mark on the first 2 but it doesnt detract from the quality of them

Hi Mark & Jediboy, thanks for your comments,

Personally I also like the fact that tiger is yawning, to me it shows tiger relaxing and cooling down on a hot day.
