Hello new starter here

Hi everyone, I'm Neil and new to this forum but have been a reader of Digital Camera for 3 years now.

I took an interest in photography when I got a Nikon D40 while working abroad, must be 6 years ago.I've been taking photos ever since and feel the next advance in my photography is only going to come with constructive criticism from others.

As I'm new to displaying my photography outside of my family and friends, I'm reluctant to offer a critique of other users photos at this stage as my opinion would be based on what I like rather than technical aspects, but please bear with me, as my confidence grows I will start offering my own opinions.

I've uploaded a few photos to the general photo's gallery. I was going to post some images to the critique forum, but when I go to assign the image to a category I couldn't see an option for critique, what am I doing wrong?

As i'm new to using forums can anyone tell me how to post images to the critique forum?

Thanks

Hi Neil, and welcome to the forum.

Posting photos can be difficult but once you get the hang of it it's not too bad.
The best place for critique like you say is critique forum. There are some good people here who will take the time to comment on your photos, but at times it can be a bit slow.

There is guidance on uploading photos which should help.

Like you, I'm no expert and an always looking to learn. Don't be deterred from commenting on others photos, sometimes emotion or atmosphere in a photo is more important than technical excellence (my opinion) and you may see something that others have missed.

Enjoy the site.

Welcome to the forum Neil , please don't feel as if you can't give your opinion on other members work when offered up for critique because we all have our own take on photography and the more feed back someone gets on their work the more we all learn .

Looking forward to your involvement .

Mark

PS Don't know if this is the right way or not but the way I get my shots into a post is to open the image I want in my gallery , right click on the large opened image and copy the image location , I then start a new thread in the forum section I want and paste the copied location into the box that opens up when I click on the insert image button , give it a go and you'll soon hit on the right method .
