Removing the background.

Hi there to all.

Is there anyone who can tell me a simple way of removing backgrounds from photos and rplacing it with a white background. I have been asked to work on some images taken by my son of the grandchildren but they just want the kids with a white background.

At present have elements 4 on a Mini Mac, elements 6 on a laptop and elements 8 on a macbook.

Any help will be apprieciated.

Easiest I know of is by using the burn tool.Just start at the edges of the image with it zoomed right in to 100% set exposure value to less than 100% 50 is a good start point and then click away.If you go wrong it's easily undone .

As you move to a less critical area of the image you can increase the burn tool size and percentage .

I use elements 7 so should not be too different.

Also probably easier than masking and copying the image onto a new white layer.

I was hoping not to have to use the burn tool but if its the only way then it will have to do. I will let you know how I get on, I am hoping to find time to do some of this work over the weekend.

The way I would do in Andy READY: open image select your grand children then refine edge, go to layers and create new layer via copy,now create a new blank layer and use fill tool anb fill with white, place this layer under your cutout layer and bingo, if there are a few edge probs then dodge and burn.

Ps I am using cs4 , hope this is of help.

Unfortunately I am still getting to grips with PSE 6 and now 8 so I will try and do the PSE equivalent to CS4.
