Purple Leaf

The Prime Hook Wildlife Nature Reserve is a place I like to go walking and kayaking. Following a trek through the forest I came back to a road that led to my truck. As I walked that road, amid all the pine needles was a purple leaf that grabbed my attention.

It's a nice snap shot but I can't help thinking that you could of made a lot more out of it , it would of meant staging a shot which you might not of had time for or even like doing but I think it could of made a really interesting abstract with a bed of evenly coloured brown leaves and then the punch of colour from the purple one . This way you would have a less cluttered background and the subject matter would stand out even more .

You're right, Mark! Had I given it a thought to arrange other leaves to contrast with the purple one, I would have done. I actually liked the juxtaposition of the pine needles. Two photos would have been in order, here. The photo as it stands would have been better if I had revealed the whole leaf, too.

After two hours of kayaking, and an hour's walk through the forest I wasn't in much of a mind to rearrange leaves, but I would have if it had come to mind. After the long trek through the forest I found myself on the long gravel road that led back to my truck. I didn't know that the trail would lead to that point, and I wasn't particularly thrilled about that being on that road, but I still kept an eye open for something interesting, and that leaf caught my eye. I will be there again as soon as I get the chance, but I doubt any leaves will still be holding their bright colors.

Colours... colors... hey, I've been in the states for 34 years and it took me 30 of those years to get used to writing "color" instead of "colour."

Here's a couple of other shots from that walk. This is Turkle pond, one of the two ponds where I take the kayak. It was a very dull afternoon so it's not the brightest of photos. If you look along the water horizon to the left side, there were several Cormorants. You can't see them in this photo because they were far off but I managed to get two of them with a 500 mm mirror lens.
