As for the composition it's hard to say if there was a better angle or not because I don't know what the rest of the scene is like so I'd only be guessing but to me it does feel like I would like to see the path way starting from a more central position , may be with the hand rail starting closer to the lower left side .
The last point is a question on your set up , the background doesn't look quite as sharp as it could so did you use a narrow aperture to maximize the depth of field and a tripod or was it hand held ? .
Looks like a great location for wildlife shots, where is it ?

Hello Mark, this was taken hand held with my 18-55 kit lens I tend to use f8 more than anything on this lens and keep forgetting to try different ones. The location is Waters Edge in Barton upon Humber and its buzzing with wild life in the warmer months, I think I will be there a lot later this year
