ring light?

my brother got me a ring light (not a ring flash, but an LED ring light) for christmas particularly for my macro work - does anyone have any experience of using them? i tried attaching it to my kit lens and it works fine (although is VERY bright and has no way of being dimmed - i shan't be pointing it at anyone's face any time soon!).

I got one just before Christmas. Mine has 48 LEDs and works quite well for macro work. Mine is adjustable so I can use the left side or right side or all.
