Newbie

Hi,

I'm new here so thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Simon. I use a Konica Minolta DiMAGE A200 (old but reliable).

I've been a 'hobbyist photographer' for about 2 years and have reached the conclusion that I'll only improve if I get some objective feedback. I've uploaded some photos and would love to read your thoughts on how they can be improved.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
It's rare for people to browse the galleries here, so you may get a better response by posting your photos in the critique thread.

Hi and welcome. I agree about thegalleries, no one bothers. In fact I'm slightly disheartened that no one bothers much to give feedback even in some of the specialist forums. However, post thenm in the critique section, you might get some good, worthwhile replies.

I really like the first one. Great colours and a nice scene. Well done.
Only observation is that the buildings left and right look a little awkward in the way they've been cropped.
But overall, nice photo, and the photo conveys the sense of calm at dusk.

I also like the Cointreau still life. Moody. For me it works.

The lava lamp is well composed to my eye, and I like the red in an otherwise 'cold' photo. Not sure what the wavy lines are behind the lamp though.

Just my observations though.

Hi swbennett and welcome to the forum .

Love the colour and the atmosphere captured in your first image all be it I'm not sure the square crop is doing it any favours , it's a beautiful location and the positioning of the bridge and river works really well .

On your other two images I'm afraid I have a confession to make still life photography leaves me cold , I keep telling myself that I should embrace all areas of photography but no matter how hard I try I just can't get on board with it so I'm really sorry but I'm in no position to comment on them .

Mark
