Question wireless flash

Hi

I have a Canon EOS600D and I am considering buying the 430 EX ii flash. Can someone tell me if I need a cable to have this flash work off camera?

I think I understand that the on camera flash will be the master and the 430 would be a slave. But do I need a cable for this or is this done wireless?

If I don't want to use the on camera flash, will I need a cable?

Hopefully someone can help me as a newbie!

Cheers
David

hi and welcome the 430 ex will sit on your cameras hot shoe and will be controlled from there. if you remove the flash and switch it to wireless your camera will still control it

Yes a cable would be required. However you can set the onboard flash so that it does not influence the result.

The 430EX ll can be used off camera wireless controlled by EOS600D. Simply popup the built in flash, select the easy wireless function in the menu and ensure the flash and camera are set to the same channel. The built in flash will always fire but can be set to a low power.
Check out my earlier post in the general photography forum "Flash help required" much of what you need to know is covered there.
