Posting images with recognizable people

Hello Everybody,

I would like to ask a question that bothers me for a long time. I like to take incognito pictures on streets where all kind of people appear in my pictures, some with visible faces and recognizable and some not. Can I post such images, for example in forums like Digital Camera? There is no practical possibility to ask all these people for their agreement, or not. Some pictures I have are more than 20 years old and include people that I do not know and have no way of finding, even if I wanted. What does the law says about posting such images? What about a picture where tens or hundreds of people appear, some recognizable, some not? Can they be posted?
I would like to hear your views and the legal position, if somebody knows it.

EDIT...
just realized you are in Israel i have no clue on the law regarding street photography in that country
my reference is for the UK and probably have no bearing on the laws of your country

there is this misconception that we have a legal right to photograph more or less anything in a public place which isn't quite the case the reality is there is no laws to stop you as long as your not causing an obstruction or harassment
the other obvious is not photographing what is classed as sensitive buildings or landmarks
as far as photographing the general public from a public place again there is no law to stop you and in this country there is no legal requirement for a model release document although other countries might need one if you plan on publishing elsewhere in the world
